  9. The Joe Murphy Column Received a late result from Bernie Britton with the Newark race liberated at 06-45 into a south wind with John McNeill taking the first 3 places his winner was a darkness mealy hen a Lambrecht from his friend Terry Rigney. His 2nd bird is also a darkness youngster but this time a mealy cock also from Terry. His 3rd pigeon was a blue bar pied hen a granddaughter of Sanny Memory John was 1st 2nd 6th 7th 13th 15th and 18th federation first class flying. Will send you the result from our Wakefield race when it has been corrected, thanks once again for all your help Joe take care Bernie’. Also received an email from John Baillie regarding the East of Scotland Federation John writes ‘Morning Joe, having been meaning to get this off to you before now but have been doing some work on the loft and a bit of painting. From the Buckingham race with SNFC the Prestonpans HC had a good race as I cannot see any other members of the federation in the result. Taking top position in the federation and club Mr Consistent John Bird who takes the following open positions with the Scottish National Flying Club 75th, 79th, 81st, 105th, 161st, 162nd and 178th open. Following John is yours truly John Baillie winning 78th 80th 85th & 201st open I’m quite happy with this considering I missed 2 races due to young bird sickness and I still have half the team left from what I vaccinated. Mr& Mrs March takes 128th open. Brian Laverty wins 202nd open and Keith Howie with 203rd open. Prestonpans is a very competitive club when it comes to SNFC racing and it is good to be part of it and the federation. I've enjoyed doing the weekly reports for the East of Scotland Federation and the member’s thank you for publishing our results. Hopefully next year I'll have another club within the federation giving me their results wishing you all the best yours in sport John Baillie’. PENTLAND HILLS FEDERATION TROPHY WINNERS 2016 News from Andy Miller the press officer for the above organisation who writes: the winner of SNFC Littlehampton race is A Mitchell of Castlebrae who won 1st open. She also won the best average from the 4 longest old bird races with a velocity of 1277. From the Buckingham young bird race is W Pryde & son of Easthouses who won 6th open. The Pryde partnership also won best average from Littlehampton and the Buckingham young bird race as they were 7th open Littlehampton and 6th open Buckingham. The best average from the 3 longest young bird races is won by Willie Kinnear & sons from Danderhall with a velocity of 1445. They also won the best 2 bird average from Roye being 41st open with their winner. They also won the best average from Reims and Roye winning 16th open Reims and 41st open Roye. Winner of the Buckingham old bird race with the SNFC is J Pryde of Easthouses who won 54th open national. The Reims winner is Andy Miller of Sighthill who was 4th open SNFC he also wins the best average from Littlehampton and Reims as he was 20th open SNFC Littlehampton. McCormack & Fraser of Castlebrae won the Ypres race being 26th open SNFC. J Robertson of New Lothian won the Roye race being 4th open SNFC with Jim Sanderson of Easthouses winning the Ancenis award being 17th open. Good SNFC Birds I start of this year by highlighting 4 very good pigeon that make history within the annuals of the Scottish National as they win the coveted Awards. There have only been 7 pigeons to win an SNFC Gold Award over the past 6 years and in 2016 we have 3 birds achieving this wonderful goal. The first of these 2016 winners is bred and raced by Willie Kinnear & Son of Danderhall in Edinburgh This partnership has already won a SNFC Gold Award in 1996 plus they have won 4 SNFC Silver Awards in 2009; 2013; 2014 and 2015. This year’s Gold Award winner is a blue white flight cock’ SU11P 3068 named ‘Rio Reekie' who won his Silver Award in 2014 he now win the much sought-after SNFC Gold Award this year as a 5 times winner from the channel. His positions are as follows; in 2012 he attained 2nd section B 5th open Ypres from a distance of 429 miles. The following year he acquired 6th section B 14th open Maidstone a distance of 359 miles he was again sent to Ypres and secured 37th section B 102nd open. Then in 2014 he was again sent to the same 2 races points and accomplished 74th section B 104th open from Maidstone then into Ypres and obtained 38th section B 64th open. In 2015 he competed from Clermont a distance of 509 miles and won 14th section B 43rd open. This year 2016 he accomplished his SNFC Gold Award by winning 16th section B 41st open Roye flying 494 miles. Well done to the Kinnear partnership that is now a household name within the Scottish pigeon fraternity. Barry has kindly sent me a photo of ‘Rio Reekie’ he states this is not a great photo as you can see the pigeon is well into the moult and has been separated since a few days after the Roye national. His breeding is as follows his sire is from a son of ‘Auld Reekie’ while his dam a daughter of Dale Newcombe’s ‘Kardale Style’ (also a SNFC Gold Award winner). Rio Reekie Additional information I have assembled some information on the Kinnear partnership that I think would be of interest to fanciers as they are one of the few lofts in Scotland to have won a Section and Open position in EVERY SNFC race over the past 2 years. I do not think if any other loft has undertaking this during the 2016 season let alone 2 years in a row (but I may be wrong if so please contact me and I will rectify this statement) The Kinnear partnership should be very proud of this accomplishment and I will highlight their performances below; In 2015 - they won Billericay 3406 Birds - 11th Open Portsmouth 4767 Birds - 118th Open Alencon 1416 Birds - 13th Open Eastbourne 2494 Birds - 20th Open Ancenis 275 Birds - 21st Open Clermont 1547 Birds - 43rd Open Buckingham 2577 Birds - 3rd Open 2016- Buckingham 4328 Birds - 87th Open Littlehampton 4482 Birds - 75th Open Reims 1330 Birds - 16th Open Ypres 2324 Birds - 56th Open Ancenis 294 Birds - 51st Open Roye 1135 Birds - 41st Open Buckingham 2084 Birds - 10th Open The second pigeon achieving this desired Gold Award is a chequer hen SU10L 4462 known as ‘Glenburn Gold’ She is bred and raced by Scottish photographer Jim Hannah of Blantyre in Lanarkshire. This hen has won 5 times from the SNFC Gold Cup race to attain the SNFC Gold Award starting in 2012 she won 17th section E 70th open Alencon flying 537 miles. The following year she gained 17th section E 88th open from Alencon. Then in 2014 again from the same race point she collected 19th section E 91st open then last year she triumphed winning 17th section E 101st open then this year from Reims a distance of 567 miles she secured 5th section E 45th open to achieve her Gold Award. ‘Glenburn Gold’ sire is a dark chequer SU03L 15937 his dam was from Glenburn Ten winner of 3rd west section 21st open Reims when he was mated to a son of Jim’s famous ‘Queen’. Winner of 21st section 21st open Rennes also winner of 101st and 103rd open Rennes wining £2300. ‘Queen’ is also the dam of ‘Pied Queen’ winner of £2500. The dam of 03L 15937 was NEHU2008WAN140 a red pied hen bred by Taylor Brothers of UNC fame. Her sire was a son of ‘Japie’ winner of 1st national St Vincent 6212 birds in 2003 flying 1003 kilometres. He also won 1st national St Vincent 6385 birds in 2004. Dam of the Taylor hen was ‘Dutch Princess’ NL04 2004116 she is the dam; grand dam of the following 1st 10th 12th 33rd 50th 60th 66th & 122nd UNC Bourges winners. She is also the dam of 6th open SNFC Alencon 2014 for Jim and is also the grandmother of ‘Glenburn Gold’ so you will see she is bred in the ‘purple’ and our congratulations go to Jim. Glenburn Gold Glenburn Gold Ped page Next we come to the 3rd SNFC Gold Award winner in Colin Crees of Ladykirk in the Scottish Borders with his chequer cock NEHU2011BOR594 in 2014 he secured 4th section B 10th open from Alencon a distance of 511 miles that same year he competed from Clermont and attained 3rd section B 25th open flying 480 miles. In 2015 he accomplished 1st section B 3rd open from Alencon and this year 2016 he succeeded twice being 10th section B 35th open Reims Gold Cup flying 520 miles then into the last old bird race from Roye to triumph being 24th section B 63rd open flying 464 miles to gain the desired award. Not content on winning a SNFC Gold Award Colin also wins SNFC Silver Award With a mealy cock NEHU2012CD 3693 this cock collected two diplomas in 2014 being 25th section B 68th open from Alencon then sent back over the channel to Clermont he obtained 13th section B 61st open. This year 2016 he again did the double winning 21st section B 70th open from Reims and then 10th section B 15th open from Roye and now only requires one more section prize to obtain the coveted SNFC Gold Award. Our congratulations go to Colin and his 2 fine pigeons in achieving these most sought after awards. I will continue on these good SNFC birds by highlighting birds who have gained an SNFC Silver Award in 2016. Joe’s Joke A father told his 3 sons when he sent them to the university: "I feel it's my duty to provide you with the best possible education, and you do not owe me anything for that. However, I want you to appreciate it. As a token, please each put £1,000 into my coffin when I die." As time passed: his sons became a doctor, a lawyer and a financial planner, each very successful financially. When their father's time had come and they saw their father in the coffin, they remembered his wish. First, it was the doctor who put 10 £100 notes onto the chest of the deceased. Then, up came the financial planner, who also put £1,000 into the coffin. Finally, it was the heartbroken lawyer's turn; he dipped into his pocket, took out his chequebook, wrote a check for £3,000, put it into his father's coffin, and took the £2,000 cash. He later went on to become a Member of Parliament.
