  17. I had to deal with DEFRA recently They are all notifiable in the sense if your vet detects any of them, a report will be sent to DEFRA, Salmonela is a bacteria that widespread but can be contained easier as a bacteria, if you don't handle poultry from the butcher properly you risk salmonela infection. If it becomes a virus type as in PMV then it can take many forms, and multiply a lot quicker and spread a lot easier to a point viruses can become airborn Hence a lot tighter with the regulations and procedures
  18. As I said before I spoke to Spencer as well and explained my viewpoint that due to recent events, members are being asked more that usual when selling things mainly birds on the site On one hand we are criticised for being foolish enough to buy pigeons with out doing our homework On the other hand we are being called witch hunters for trying to do our home work. So who is right the left hand or the right hand or the ambidextrous amongst us who can see two sides and make up our own mind? No matter what it is on any forum, if you are going to post things then be ready for them to questioned, to clear up some doubts that we have or be open to criticism by people who think differently On this thread, I raised a simple question about birds being kept for pleasure and raced from a prison, someone from above deleted it. I also questioned regarding the fact that there is no HMP in Sheffield again deleted from above I am sending a copy to the Webmaster regarding the same

    fantails wanted

The increase in hawks is one reason, I have seen whole cotes emptied in days due to a hawk as fantails are easy picking for them. Basic rule the bigger the tail the easier they are to catch. We now have ones with a slight fan in the tail as they are better at flying and avoiding any predator Nothing is foolproof as predators like hawks and cats will catch anything given the right opportunity, all you can do is cut down the risks If you have a hawk, mainly sparrow hawk problem in your area then best not keep to ones in a cote, thankfully we don't have a problem as yet. We have only lost one to a sparrowhawk this year Perigrines are not quite the same problem as fantails do not stray far from the cotes, and they tend to prey on flocks of pigeons This is the type we have in our cotes, they are tame in the sense that they stay in our garden, we feed them, we vaccinate and worm them etc, but they are feral in the sense that they are free to all the elements, breeding and choosing mates etc We have some on eggs but winter and nature will play a big part in the outcome, unlike the summer, they are very prolific :)
