It's just cruel Bob as they are not equiped to survive in the wild and are easy prey and if you really care about your birds then you look after them as best as you can.

It has already started Bigda, hopefully when they go down on eggs it ease off

Most fantails won't make it past the church roof and it is cruel to do so and I don't give a monkeys if you think that is stupid or idiotic also the likes of the RSPB and RSPCA would have a field day if we encouraged it. The RSPCA stipulate that all birds that are used for release must have Identity rings on them. Personally I would report anyone that released fantails at any event, sorry just my strong opinion

Your not far wrong, yes they are pets first and foremost and racers second, we started out with a dove cote in the garden and now three cotes and three lofts later we are now going to race some but not with the passion, experience and knowledge with some fanciers I know but for sheer enjoyment. Saying that once we start things will probably change

Having looked at the rings at Blackpool they won't be easy to file as there is a risk you will break the seal and allow water into damage the paper inserts that have all the info into them, also the when the ring does not have a chip inserted it may catch on any number of things :-/ JMO
