well i was close i said 34 3 out i was mate i knew it was something along that lines of medals but back to stoping racing for two seasons it may sound like a good idea lads but just listen and hear this out birds of prey will kill almost any type of bird to live lads they are not fussy at all. my mate has 2 periguine falcons he uses for duck hunting, rabbits, and hares they have even killed phesant there was one occasion one hit a young lamb and injured its self so i put the question to him why the racers why do they hit them his answer was this when a falcon has fully matured they intelligence is equal between an 8 year and 12 year old child there very very smart the condition of the prey they strike is important no matter what it is meaning what will offer the protien and energy they need they will not strike a flock head on incase of injury to them selfs they will try to seperate an indiviual and then strike thats why racers climb every time there about they get tight to the hawk so he cant dive at them which he needs to do .he said periguine falcons will survie on anything down to a field mouse along with sparrow hawks i asked if there was an answer and he said eagleowls are you only hope birds of prey avoid them like the plauge ps please dont shoot me down over this there not my words lads.

we found it great mate when we were training young on our line of flight we started at a half mile till they were leaving with out a bother may sound short but you woundn belive how thick they can be from that distance but after 5 times they got it then we edged them out half mile more and so on but befor we moved them they had to leave the training point without circuling around this continued up to the 30 mile marker a long process mate doing it but the results were shocking from a training point of view we started with 60 and up to the first race we had 58 mate our training before hand was first toss 5 mile and we could be waiting up to 5 hours for the last bird to make it home and loss 3or 4 in that one toss and anything up to 18 over all . plus you learn a lot about there line of flight home and what they face for the first ten mile what i mean by that is it hawks or was it me being stupid and i have to say 70 percent me mate.

its not nice at all mate we were very lucky up to a couple of year ago but now the stress on young birds is a joke from hawks i would rate the sparrow hawk our worse enemy were we are groups of them mate not only can they not make a clean kill anything that gets away from it badly injured they return to see has the bird died or any sign of it after you have chased it off the number of falcons here in bray i mean is low but slowly growing sounds like an epidemic over there lads and to be honest goverment will never listen to us fanciers and if im not mistaking out of 54 medals of honur giving to animals in the war 33 were to our pigeons and yet there voice never heard.

k mate well the best advice id give you is find out if his gonna be flying southroad fed or eastcoast fed check race results on the fed his going to be flying in and what member is doing the best and try contact him it may sound like a bit of work but its not really colours mean nothing in pigeons mate not a thing so going for pigeons that look nice is a no no you might get someone to breed some for nothing but try your best bud to get sound tested birds that will help your da stay in them and not get out after a year . -

what breed are you looking for bud bit late in the season for racing them are they for stock and 99.9 percent of us in ireland buy in abroad there is outstanding flyers in ireland north and south in our little country but be prepared to pay for them off our top men. -
thats a fact we have a perfect example at home our 9 year old cock topper in his 5 year racing carreer he topped 6 feds the least birdage was two thousand plus his being with 8 different hens and his children are still at the race point or maybe walking home id say honestly you have a 70 percent chance of a bird that raced well will produce well has for us but then again you have our example.

i know of 2 men out of the same club great mates bought birds from a stud in england they bought 2 kits of 10 from the same stock one of them got there kit in january the other march now the january birds were 9 blues 1 checktip the march birds were gay pieds checks and blues not one of the january birds even feather wise size and shape looked any way like the march ones straight away they knew there was something seriously wrong they contacted this big stud and explained what the story was they told the men it was impossible they were from different stock the lads went one step further and had them tested there two kits that is one pair were related out of the two kits they got back onto the stud and told them what they done they were invited back over giving a pair of direct stock each other young and asked to keep it quiet it was a mix up ill leave you to decide if it was the only advise id give on buying birds is buy proven raced stock with there results it will cost you a bit more but at least you have a record of how the bird or birds peformed and more than likely of the same family honesty in our pigeon sport today has a massive black cloud above it.
