Hi, A few months ago a good freind of mine gave me 8 racing pigeons, i kept them in for 10 days (as told) then i let them out. 1 came back about 24 hours after i let them all out. 15 days ago i got another 2 pigeons, and today i let them out this morning with the 1st pigeon, the first pigeon is back, but not the other two. What am i doing wrong?
-
i would say a little more than 12 inches above and below, remember that they have to be able to fly onto and off.

whats good about pigeon racing today?

I am only just new to the sport, but already i have felt the sensation of "looking after" and caring for a animal that somehow seems to find its way home from miles and miles away. absalutely amazing. -
What does the term "stock birds" mean? and is there any other terms that i might come across in this sport that i probly (as a new and young fancier) might not understand? thankyou
-
thats why i would keep it in my loft for a while

If i was able to get a ringed pigeon, is it possible to tranfer the ring ownership from one person to another?
-
yep, very informative. thankyou
-
I also have 2 other tumblers, one cock and one hen. My plans are to get some more birds and start racing soon. but i probly wont with this one as he/she is a bit old to put a ring on.

This is the pigeon am i right in saying its a hen aswell?

ok thanks guys. I have one pigeon that i dont know what brred it is, so if i post a pic on here tommorrow, do you reckon you could tell me what it is? (looks like just another pigeon to me) ;D
-
To be honest, i dont know the difference between strain or breed. could you please enlighten me on the subject?
-
Hello, I am new to the sport, and have been looking at different breeds of pigeons. Is it possible to tell what breed a pigeon is by just looking at it? the reason i ask is becuase there are so many colours and variations out there. thankyou

I would be really careful with cheap hand warmers. I have had the plastic split before when heating up/cooling down. I really mean it mate, there are some bad chemicals in them. Unless you put them inside another tied up bag to be safe. Goodluck, i might try that idea instead.

Thanks guys, i get it now. I just read some of the FAQ's on there site. I have to regester as a member of the RPRA, then the young fanciers bit, then i am entitled to my 10 rings.
-
I just looked on the rpra webiste and it said something about with the young fancier membership i can get 10 free rings per year, but it doesnt say anything about how much the membership costs and where it is payable too. i am really confused :-/
-
Do i ned to join a club and the rpra? or just one or the other? sorry about all the questions, i am really new to all this.
-
I am hoping to join one soon. thankyou for replying. How much is it for membership?
-
Hello, How do i go about joining the rpra? Is there a young fanciers membership? And also, where can i get rings from? thankyou
-
Yeah, i was thinking that? I dont want to be cleaning up little white foam droppings

Thanks guys. This snow is getting on my nerves, its only 6" here in north walsham, whats it like where you are spin cycle? It was a little worse in northrepps when i picked up my 2 new tumblers this morning.

???? i havent got any spare ply to make a miny table tennis table? What does a ping pong ball do to the water? does it keep it moving to stop it icing up?
-
I replace the water in my loft once a day. In the past few days of freezing weather, the water in my loft keeps freezing up after a while. Is there anything i can do to stop this? thankyou
-
Hi Bob, I have my loft with a lovely sputnik on the front. I have 8 young birds,(6 weeks old) all temporeliy on v perches (box perches are being made.) I have had them for 2 days now, and they are starting to get a little used to me every time i see them. I must admit, its intersting just looking after the birds themselves, i cant wait to race them.

Should racing pigeons be fed fruit or vegetables as they would in the wild, if so what is ok to feed them? thankyou
