  1. All clubs will be expected to follow the rule. Some may not carry it out. The problem will only exist if a club member insists on their right to follow the rule. If the SNFC insist on obliterating wing stamps and force removal of telephone ring and the individual appeals to the SHU, then the SNFC will lose their case because they will be in contravention of the SHU rule. This is the debate on the other site and my reason for asking on here about communication. It seems communication, the most important of things within any organisation, has broken down. Are SHU delegates reporting to their Feds? Do Fed secretaries receive communication regards SHU agendas? Do Fed delegates report to their clubs? Do members check the SHU website? Is the SHU website up to date? Has the SHU disengaged from its membership or has the membership disengaged from the SHU?

  4. Wing stamping was the original debate causing me to make this post. It seems very few know that they cannot race YB's unless they are wing stamped or carry a telephone ring according to SHU rules, with no exceptions, even the YB National.
  5. I have also noticed that a lot of members do not use the ring book even though a lot of Feds give further details in their own book. Members need to help themselves as well as expecting officials to perform their tasks.
  6. If an official "sawed" me off, I would be pushing for his removal at the next AGM. In a supposedly free country, we are entitled to our opinion. Others will have a different opinion. We then debate and reach a consensus. We move on from there whether we agree with the final conclusion or not. That is the way democracy should work.
  7. Derek, the SHU should be conducting their own survey. How else can they be aware of non-attending members' opinions? Most good organisations do something like this to measure their effectiveness. The survey also raises any issues which need to be improved and they are then able to work on them. Ideally, the system we have should work and this would happen, but it is obvious that our system is not working. Apart from delegates, the AGM had perhaps two members in attendance. Maybe somewhere around 20 people are governing the whole of Scottish pigeon matters. This is wrong and we have to re-engage the members. The members, for their part, need to overcome their apathy and make the effort to attend the SHU AGM. They should also ensure that their delegate attends the meetings and reports back to them, whilst also directing them on how they wish them to vote. The Federation delegates then need to report back to their clubs.

  10. Not near any race route, so rarely see pigeons except my own. Occasionally a stray comes with them, but they usually leave once mine have trapped.

  13. 4 months old bird racing then just over 1 month young bird racing is what the season consists of. This will be my first year racing young birds, so I am not in a position to comment. As un-raced young birds, I have had mixed returns as yearlings, some years better than others.

  15. Due to recent discussions on another site and as a matter of interest, how does the SHU make contact with its members? Being a delegate I receive mailings. I make a report to my Federation after the meeting and ask them to give me direction prior to attending the meeting. I am happy that my members should know what is happening within the SHU, if the Federation Delegates carry out their duties in a similar manner. What are the opinions of the members on here, how do you receive your contact?
