  6. don't have them out too early, if it is a bit fresh they will be up and away before they know where they are. Late afternoon best, keep them on the hungry side, it is important that nothing frightens them at this stage

there is no doubt that this hobby will sometimes cost you your very best, we wait a long time for a bird as special as this to come along, and to see that picture is terrible, gutted for you, hope you got a few young off him at least.

    cats cats cats !!!

don't underestimate a cat if you leave the trap open and it gets in it will bite the head off every bird in the loft, they kill for fun

    Dordins Wanted

i don't think they are still around, we actually had an elderley champion solitaire in our lofts many years ago (had dordin's ring on) but he had stopped filling his eggs and his owner farmed him out to us hoping we would have more luck, sadly we didn't.Came from brian jones at crewe of le producer fame, beautiful silver mealies and powder blues with an intelligent look in their eye, most looked better than they raced
  19. cracking birds, think the dark un will moult out bronze
  20. mealy nice bird, bet thats a cock

    Dampening Wings

i would just get them really hungry and let them out when your kit has dropped. Rollers are easy to break. I find it helps to put them in a basket on top of the pen for a few times before this so they know where they are and get a good look round. Good luck with them
  22. the wind direction can be a big factor, one week your birds may have to fly into it, when it blows someone else's home, next week it may be vice-versa. Remember also if a good fancier has an ideal drop so that his birds can fly unhindered into his loft, he will take 2 minutes off someone who's birds have to fly between houses, trees and other obstacles in a small back yard set up, to win in sprints thats all they need. So yes a good position can be a big advantage but only on certain days when the wind is in your favour
  23. what are the approximate overall dimensions?
  24. brilliant, have saved photos, will build one of these to fly my young tipplers to this year
  25. our best breeders were just average racers and paired to other birds produced nothing much but paired together they seemed to click, the blues and blue pieds were always best, if they bred a chequer it was never any good, has anyone else noticed this?
