  6. Johno the way I see it is tablets get dissolved in out stomach by gastric juices not by the water we wash them down with. Pigeon medicine on the other hand get dissolved in water which in turn can remain in their crops for up to 10 hours, perhaps longer.

  10. lol I'm far from a youngbird expert but here goes. Your going to have to let them out before your of to work so its just finding a way to suit. You'll want them back in the loft at least an hour before you leave as they'll have to eat and get a good drink before you darken them of. Vic I believe put a post on here somewhere saying that he is going to let he's darkness youngsters wake up to natural light (open the shed back up of a night to let the morning light in) I think you should look at doing this. If i were to do this I'd have them out around 11 o'clock. I think a big mistake fanciers make in trying to get darkness youngbirds to fly is giving them too much in the way of fatty seeds, add barley to their feed instead.
  11. Re early bred y/birds, If your going to try this system for more than one year (pairing up early December) I think racing your y/birds on the darkness system is a no-no. Come December when you want to pair these y/birds up they'll not have thrown all their flights and I think thats a lot to ask of them. One way round it could be to pair your 2-3-4 year olds up December and let them rear but not your yearlings, let the yearlings rear when your repair in March. Racing young birds... I dont think there's a better system than darkness.
  12. I have been doing the same for some years now

  14. Any noticeable frets show up in their flights Vic as I've heard it can knock a pigeon back for a day or two. Hope you've got it sorted, many can learn through your experience.
  15. If you have a good racing hen pair her to her sire and the young from this pairing are your future breeders (if they're sound in every way)
