  1. i have the same problem there a cock i race which races well to a good loving hen but i want to try another hen for breeding done this now for 2years i would pair him up in dec/jan to the good hen once laid move eggs to a foster pair to rear the young, you could do this again if you want 4from em then split him up & pair him to the hens he races well to.
  2. cheers jimmy
  3. does anyone know if by pairing up early birds keeps there form? my problem is i always get my birds bounching for the first few races which i usually win then they drop off form, ibelieve this because ive trained & got em too fit in cold weather & they are too fit before racing hence fit & no race to send em to!!! what ideas & views do other members have on this subject i want to pair my rounabout up in jan but only get the hens buzzing for the first few races then rest em & let the cocks then take over then get hens back to form for the longer land & channel races. i also want to pair a later teem up in late feb for the channel races also what are peoples views on yearlings for the first few races
  4. cheers shadow i only did it the once but had a good result beforei put em on roundabout
  5. i think late breds are ok when you have plenty of time with them like now other birds have now finnished can train em till they drop into the moult & if you have enough of em too as just 1 or 2 probably very hard work
  6. interested in memmbers views on racing widowhood & natural from same loft!!! a few years ago i paired my widowhood cocks up to go on roundabout there were several pairs late laying hence i had widowhood cocks & naturals in the same loft i was 1st club with a cock & 2nd club with a hen which was still sitting!! they were 1st & 2nd fed too can this be done??? as im thinking to pair my team of widowhood cocks in 2 stages can this work so they all dont come into form together!! what do people think of this idea & has anyone had any success using this method??
  7. why not try rounabout or race widowhood cocks also train the hens then repair for the further races too many hens go to waiste
  8. good points raised think im gona do the whats been sugested with yours jimmy as ive got 10 to train up just to see how they go
  9. well i started training about 4weeks before fisrt yb race this way there are not that many ybs training around this time leaving the sky clear & avoding bad classes then when everyone else starts mine have plenty of experience started with 33ybs & at the end of season ended up with 26 after having 1bad first open race & a few bad tosses all came home sinse that bad open race i didnt loose 1yb the 7 i lost was before racing i did notice 2weeks before first yb race everyone were training birds everywhere so i took em early morning back home for 7am then back in the transporter at 10am giving experience at breaking for home with other birds worked for me won5 & other scores started at 8miles upto 50miles on own they always had between 4 & 6 tooses a week 1toss early 15miles & other 30miles or sumtimes 2 at 15miles if weather wasent that good to send with the transporter not saying this is right but works for me
  10. i supose im lucky dont seem to have that problem where i am in yorkshire
  11. how about having a few box perches as you casn catch em easier & there a chance to try & tame em down this way also agree with earlier post by hand feeding i always do this with my ybs sitting with em ect they end up climbing all over you feel like bird man!!! this then helps them as old birds also i wouldnt train em now as bruno said probably in moult & cold damp weather is no good for training birds as autum is around the corner let em get through the moult try to tame em abit then start training again next year say around spring or maybe early march only on nice warmish days
  12. yeah be good to meet as many as you as poss like someone else said put a face to the name must arrange a time & place
  13. i like ybs to be sitting or on young won 5ybs races 2cocks 2hens hens for the the further races one hen been to 3 200mile races this year winning 2of of em! all paired up had other scores with young not paired up

  15. very interested in when other members pair up,i they pair all there racing team up together or in stages i use to pair up febuary 14th now i seem to pair beore that date due to wanting ybs on the darkness
  16. cheers shadow good points but does it afect the cocks exercise being in another hut? the reason i was gonna use the hut which isnt next door its the hut which is directly nect door i usually put ybs in there & does the radio stop both birds resting?
  17. yeah slug id be interested in that i use to use lemmon juice with brewers yeast
  18. ive got 2huts of widowhood cocks but have another hut which can house up to 12hens which i had 8in there this year on widowhood which proved very successful however i want to cut down my old cocks which i pair to them also have some old hens which dont race which i pair to the widowhood cocks. would it work if i paired my racing hens to the widowhood cocks & when they are parted thy then go in the hut with 12 boxes & train & exercise from there & on race day go back to the widowhood cocks loft?? would this work open to ideas as i realy want to cut my team of old hens & cocks which dont race by ding it this way i will be 24birds less alot eh!!
  19. how is this to be vinny?
  20. anymore tips for roundabout
  21. cheers jas birds are back to form last race this weekend which is a channel race & realy fancying em! split my cocks & hens up racing there heads off & hens even flying over an hour round the loft what ever they had i got em right with a 5 in 1 in there water for 5days
  22. great idea snowy
  23. well if they are in good feather start taking em 5miles & increase from there once at 20miles & coming ok send em with a local training waggon on the line of flight that you will be racing next year & next year start training early only on nice days no cold winds as that dosent help em in the winter
  24. dont know if this has been done but how about put this web site into the homing world & any other magazines gets more members interested
  25. are they yb or old birds if they are old birds i would wait to train em till next year as thet are probably in the moult nice size loft westy
