  9. our thoughts & prayers are with her & her family.
  10. does anybody know of any other pigeon breed/ other than racing, that are good homers,? i know some have a good instinct to get home, but what breeds are they? as when i was a kid, i took my first pigeon which was a white muffed(not a WOE , dont know what strain or breed) on holiday about 80-100 miles away, & it got home the same night?
  11. yes good one, same as one of my logans, first time out went missing all afternoon night & next morning, then came back feeding time next afternoon, abit wet & worse for where, but fair play to him!
  12. kirkpatricks, Putmans, Logans, just some of the long distance strains i have read about, the man i got my logans from (Dennis sanders) his white logans have flown from barcelona my putman & kirkpatrick strain have both flown good distances & won,(thats their sires & dams) so the breeding is there, just hope we can keep it up in the next few years.
  13. around 10 yrs old. you can see a photo of me & my first pigeon (snowy) on my website
  14. think it could be good for the sport in general, ie: new members etc
  15. seems that quite a few have a few trappers also
  16. WOULD IT BE A GOOD IDEA FOR THE WEBMASTER TO PUT A PICTURE OF THE PIGEON BASICS LOGO ON THE SITE OR EMAIL IT TO THE MEMBERS, SO THEY CAN PRINT IT OFF (THE SIZE OF A BADGE & SPACE FOR YOUR NAME BELOW) STICK IT ON A BIT OF CARD WITH A PIN IN THE BACK, & PUT YOUR USER NAMES UNDERNEATH THE LOGO. SO EVERYONE WHO ATTENDS BLACKPOOL 2006, CAN STOP & HAVE A WEE CHAT?? JUST A THOUGHT.? ;D ;D ;D
  17. ;D ALL HAVE A GREAT 2006 FROM SNOWY WESTY & FAMILY!!!!!
  18. good reading though slugmonkey. cheers
  19. good points, but i think its best to leave well alone unless i spot somthing, as im sure i will at the first signs, spend as much time as i can handling the birds & all are calm in the hand & 99% of them eat from my hand, & all seem healthy, thanks anyway for the advice.
  20. cheers hyacinth, will leave alone unless i spot somthing.
  21. can someone please tell me if i should treat for canker etc? i have not as yet gave anything at all medicine wise ecept garlic 4-5 times a week, & johnsons pigeon tonic once every 2 weeks, & a good belgium grit, with oyster shell & a sprinkling of charcoal on top.? any advice
  22. myself & westy starting up this year, couldnt have been helped anymore than we have, especially the people on this forum, have been donated some good quality stock birds by generous members of this forum, & nearly everyone has offered more, we had to say no, due to space, as these birds will be breeding us our first 2006 racing birds, to be honest i dont think we would have gone ahead with racing if it wernt for all the friendly advice & generousity of the members of this forum. thanks again all. ;D ;D
  23. happy birthday both! ;D ;D
  24. the logan circled & circled wider & higher than the janssen & was still circling when the janssen shot off in the wrong direction, then after 5 mins of high circling (obviously using his brain) the logan headed straight for home! a bad start to the story, but could be a good bird due to my mistake.
  25. also took 2 late late bred birds on a clear day a few weeks ago, for their first training toss,(should have never done it) (you learn by your mistakes) one cross janssen (sprint) been homing for about 4 weeks, & the other white logan, alot younger was still squeeking(stupid me) :-/ .only been homing round the loft for 2 weeks, white logan returned almost straight away, janssen, never to be seen again,
