    training

3rd toss today from same spot 3 miles.( all straight out of basket & home) any advice on next distance to toss from?
  15. thanks jack, much appreciated for your opinion and experience., i have only just about to start young bird racing this year with my son, was given some quality stock birds by generous members of this forum. i have a fasination in the distance birds, not for money on winning big races, just that i find it fasinating. as a child i was given a few birds by my late uncle who raced the distance birds. i was absolutly gob smacked as a child finding that these birds flew from france. just one more question? if you had the best advice for a novice who wants to fly distance birds, & the breeding was there, what would it be? ( as in train youngsters hard or some people say dont even race their distance birds the first year) regards.
  16. well done richard for all your hard work! fair play mate! WESTY
  17. hi jack, eye sign, balance, feathering, all this and more, in your experience of observing the long distance birds, past & present, which do you think was the best strain of bird to fit this catagory you have observed. regards
  18. my dad used to be a pro in his younger days, (god rest his soul) larry the killer kirwan. pic of my mom & dad
  19. hi, we flag our young birds for an hour & they do fly for an hour now, but the odd day they get tired before the hour, & as soon as they start dropping towards the roof or the neighbours roof i call them in so they dont land on the roof. but you have to be constantly watching them all the time, & it does work great for us, but can tell the odd day they have just had enough, so i call them in. when flagging for an hour plus, just give them plenty of food for stamina. regards
  20. nice birds & set up mate, plenty of room for the birds, good on ya
  21. thanks also redcheckhen. thats the answer i wanted to hear, its just that sometimes my partner in racing (my son westy) who i love dearly, disagrees & sometimes it takes a few experienced members like yourselves to make him see that sometimes dad is right. thanks again all, & westy son we will take tomorrow training (15 young ens) & if my "lucky jim" comes back first you can buy dad a pint! (lol)
  22. a pair of beauties sam! what a lovely pair!

  24. well done pecked! birds coming along great. we had the same with a pair of young ens, but both grew fit & strong in the end. good luck
  25. question?? fed birds this morning as much as they wanted, still food left in troff, took them for their 2nd 3 mile toss & they didnt come back all together & some just sat on loft roof, & some just carried on flying round the loft? should they be flying straight in to the loft to trap? regards, any opinions gratefull.
