  1. I think that the YBs might break the new eggs, I'd put another bowl in the nest box. Can you lock it to ensure she lays in the new bowl? If not, I'd move the YBs to the new bowl and leave the eggs in the old one. Yes, the cock continues to feed the YBs.
  2. About 400 miles Lee.
  3. LOL But, funnily enough Alf, yours is still on - I've lost everyone elses, my own included!
  4. GRRRR! So, I decided to block Alfs avatar - don't know why really - must be bored so, right clicked and- and NOW I'VE LOST MY SMILIES!! Any of you clever people know how to reinstate them? Sue
  5. Good on you for admitting it Lee. I'm sure you will get lots of help once people know that you are genuine.
  6. Thanks, great idea but, I don't have electricity in the loft.
  7. Salt? How much and is it OK if they are feeding young? I'm worried that the water will freeze and they won't be able to feed the babies.
  8. http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/m-1230902186/s-1/#num1 http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/m-1225358463/s-4/#num4 I'll say no more. :-/

    BEWARE

BEWARE GUYS! This chap has already tried to claim a couple of found birds as his own .. one was claimed by its owner, the other had a vet bill outstanding. Needless to say he wasn't as interested in it then!!! Lee, if you are genuinely interested in pigeon racing, you are going about it the wrong way!
  10. Have a wonderful day Gemma. Sue
  11. Another thought.....why nnot get some quotes from pet sitters - see how much they would charge to see to birds - then choose the highest quote to present to your aunts.
  12. True, and, with sufficient food and water down they can be left for a few days. However, this isn't what you need to hear..... the pigeons need daily, if not more, attention in the freezing weather - someone has to check that the water hasn't frozen. It's not good to leave food down as it attracts rats and, because the birds are elderly I think that they need someone who is familiar with them and their behaviour to watch out for any illness. Sue
  13. My husband doesn't like them at all. He enjoyed building the sputnik and nest boxes and I thought he'd get interested in the birds but he didn't. : He'll lift the corn out of the car - too heavy for my bad back - and that's about it.
  14. Now Jimmy. no going climbing ladders when you've just come out of hospital.

    Eat

I couldn't eat pigeon but I do know someone who eats their eggs scrambled and swears they make the best Yorkshire puds. Me? I throw the eggs into the field for the crows.
  16. I do hope that someone can help you to catch them. they must be getting pretty weak and hungry by now. You could help them by throwing down some pigeon food or budgie seed would do. They probably won't recognise bread as food and, even if they do, there's not much goodness in it. Good luck.
  17. Yes, wishing you a speedy recovery Jimmy. These Logans are hatching now so will be ready for you shortly so hurry up and get better soon. Sue x
  18. Usually upside down on right leg. I ring at six days but it depends on size of pigeons. Better to try too soon than wait too long and struggle. You can use a toothpick to pull the fourth toe through the ring.
  19. If you can't entice him into the greenhouse, here is an easy trap to make: http://www.racingbirds.com/ptrap.html
  20. Aw, bless. Thanks for the photo. Glad to hear both are doing well. What are you going to call her? Suex
  21. Funny?? :-/ Warped more like!!
  22. Mine are the same. I wonder if that garden fleece would work if we wrapped a few layers around and cut a hole in? It's supposed to stop the frost getting to plants so it might. For me, it's easier to carry the water in at night and put it back out in the morning.
  23. Yeah, I was wondering the same thing - if the hen didn't stand over the egg, wouldn't it freeze and be no good? I brought one in this morning that was abandoned and freezing cold, thought I'd replace it when the second egg is laid! :-/
  24. Congratulations Phil. Photos please Sue :)
