  1. Have a nice day
  2. Whilst on a visit to The military heritage museum in Canberra Australia my wife and I were greatly impressed by the respect shown by groups of schoolchildren. My wife and I were informed that all schoolchildren at some point would visit and respect as we observed was the norm. By coincidence a week later whilst in Adelaide a friend took me to his private museum which was an eye opener to say the least. He was an avid collector of war memorabilia and very informative on the subject. As a pigeon fancier he also did a great job of informing Australians of pigeons during the war.The following year we booked a trip to visit various battlefields in France one of which was Ypres Saliend Belgium the imprint in my mind of the Menin Gate shall remain with us along with the stories relayed by couriers etc. These memories are recalled when we see a poppy.
  3. What can be nicer than going to the loft and handling some youngsters who have just completed the moult rich, smooth feathering, body light and supple in the hand, buoyant and powerful one who reminds you of an ancestor who graced the skies, A bird who goes about the loft with confidence, who flies to the perch with a single beat of the wing, with effortless speed which catches us by surprise, makes us stop and look. We are met with an alert and observant eye which radiates health and vitality, chances are this pigeon may not become a champion but the feeling and expectation it generates is what this game is all about - dreams. Thanks for the birthday wishes
  4. Sorry to hear this news, time to put your feet up and look after yourself Andy. All the best for the future.
  5. Use reeds also, place them in a large bin spray leave them for a week.
  6. Good advice, you will be better making plans over the winter while looking at some proven birds rather than maybe regrets with empty perches.
  7. The role of the immune system is to provide the pigeon with the ability to resist infections to the pigeons body. The diet of the pigeon plays a significant role in the function of the immune system, when fully functional i.e in a healthy balanced state the immune system removes pathogens (disease causing organisms)from the body, however many of our pigeons seem to have lost the correct balance of friendly bacteria in their intestines this enables them to flush out toxins which gather during racing, stress, moulting etc. Correct nutrition goes a long way to maintaining this balance, however many additives we add, may inadvertently kill of friendly bacteria and block nutritional absorption (which is an aid to good health. A poor immune system will lead to eventual toxic overload and loss of form, pigeons have enough stress during training, growing, moulting etc without us deciding we will add some supposed secret formula ingredient etc. This is best left to the experts who mix the grains, the feed helps define the general health and can make pigeons reach top condition. Or as many pigeon fanciers say feed is and remains a science most grain suppliers have nutritional experts who devise mixtures through scientific research adapted for our birds perhaps we should think again before we consider adding our own concoctions.
  8. Enjoy.

  20. A change in the bird's chromosome makeup would have to happen if this was the case - how is this possible? In birds it is possible for plumage to change as in chickens, i.e. suppressed male (looks female) but the bird is still a male bird.

Spot on, we kept eggs prior to going into incubators, a thousand turkeys sold for Christmas every year.eggs were on tables for up to eight weeks at a time.traps underneath for vermin, incubators were next to stables no great worry on temperature as it rarely fluctuated much great hatches.
