  1. Hey ken there 1st class. Is there any way you could do a step by step guide to make these with pics? I fancy making fronts throughout summer and fit for next season. Really impressive mate
  2. Phoned Les explained he said to email him soon as. Got off phone emailed still no reply? I'm with gmail so wondering if its maybe going to his spam box as I know some email providers don't like gmail addresses. Off to work now so will have to try and sort it tomorrow. Only emails I've had are to confirm my bid and a one saying I won auction.
  3. Cheers O/Y ill give them a bell once I've getting jobs done this morning. Tried ringing yesterday to no avail. Hope my first experience ain't a bad one. Cheers
  4. Hi lads. Does anyone know the process of what happens when you win an auction on elimar? Won an auction on Thursday paid via direct bank transfer on Friday (instant). I then emailed elimar what happens next stating I lived within a few miles of seller and would pick bird up. However had no reply. Just confused on what the process is as there is nothing on there site. Cheers in advance Hibby

    Bouncing!

Cleaned all the nest bowls out (disinfected, jet washed then dried in the oven) placed them in cocks boxs upside down in closed section, as they've been separated a good 6 weeks now just to get them keen. It was deafening!! The loft was bouncing. Even this years cocks who don't know what the nest pan is for we're doing there thing. Best buzz I've had for a while just thinking of the season ahead.
  6. Said in the paper Dawson has gone "5" rounds thats 5 more than freddy. Lol Would have been better set as a documentary showing his road to fitness etc it can never be more than a flash in the pan. Shame because a like freddy.
  7. I think it's an insult to pro boxers who have been in the sport from childhood worked there way up through the ranks years of blood sweat and tears. then he can be classed as professional. Professional cricketer yes definitely, boxer.....never
  8. No your thinking of Ron strong from hexham who sadly passed away a few months back. His sales were over the last 2 weekends. Bought a pair to try out. Was a top distance flier. It's all he raced for the long ones due to where he is situated. After he passed away club members apparently urged his wife to send his bourges cock to the long one for the last time..... He won.
  9. Ps don't get rid of your tumblers. Youl need flappers for your racing pigeons when there coming back from races, keep hold of them. Can always float eggs under them too of your pair of racers so youl get double
  10. http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/topic/61936-part-of-our-setup-whood-cocks/#entry789143 There's some of the cocks there that the young ones will be off. Last time I started the birds I was about your age. One thing there's a good load of genuine fliers in our neck of the woods who will help you as much as poss. (Ps birds were in moult in pics so a little scraggy here and there.)
  11. Scott where just down the road from you. Just starting up this year again with my old partner who had lost interest in the pigeons over the last 3 -4 year. So basically there in a bit of a shambles. I'm having to race young birds of this year who have not raced at all as yearlings next year. There parents would have cost a fair bit and were gifted to my partner by a top top flier in our fed, to try get him back interested. Anyhow as I'm wanting to concentrate on channel flying I'm only rearing about 30ybs off the stock we have put together and 4 of the old cocks that we have for racing. However all this years cocks the ones that my partner was gifted etc (about 16) I am going to train over the winter and what is left come pairing time your welcome to the young ones (if theres anything left) and if you want a round of the stock sure we can sort something out but will be later on. Like I say these birds haven't been tested as of yet but I plan on giving them a good go next year. We fly in consett fed at medomsley hs
  12. Beautiful here in the north east just hit 13 oC there sunny blue sky's getting the allotment all tidied
  13. Just been to Paul's tonight..... Unreal, really can't say how much of a nice bloke he is held my first champion pigeons. So used to just looking at them in the papers or web sites. Surprise surprise, the gypsy so many multiple Amalgamation winners can't remember them all. One thing they are all a different class of pigeon. And no wonder I would be quiet happy to live in there unreal pigeons, unreal set up. Genuine fancier one of the best experiences I've had since getting back into the birds
  14. Will be next year couldn't meat a nicer man, especially when as succesfull as him. My partner has a number of his birds but unfortunately lost interest last year after a lifetime of keeping birds. Paul bred him quiet a few birds unfortunately never raced as ybs so going to give them all the help possible and try them as yearlings shame they are at a disadvantage but they are superb birds. Going to his lofts soon and he's going to showm me round. Been told by many his birds are like oil paintings no matter what time of the year. But like I say true gent
  15. BOP where lucky in the fact there's only sparrow hawks in the area (Durham) no falcons as of yet. The hawks only ever take birds sitting on loft or on garden. So if there not exerciseing there in the loft. Baths etc they can get into aivary. My main concern was would it it be worth it but with 17 suppose it will be a good test for future years or if we ever have late breds we want to race.
  16. Got one back out of 4, typical the one I was least botherd about. Never mind. They were from down the country somewhere. Partner has lost paper work no surprise there. Truth be told it was probably a god send start from scratch.
  17. Anyone raced yearling cocks that had not raced as young birds with any success? Got 16 cocks from this year and only 6 old cocks. So going to give the young cocks ago next season. I'm not bothered about them winning as there all distance birds intended for long races in 2 or 3 years time. What I'm curious about is will they be on an even par as 2 yr olds if raced carefully as yearlings? I'm going to treat them as young birds and will only race inland next year. Once they have reared a round of youngsters dec/jan I will begin training them and basket training them. The plan is to build them up to 80-100miles training tosses before season starts as first race is 80 followed by 110 miles. Any thoughts on this or has any one had birds similar who they have pulled through? As I said these are long distance birds so results this year aren't to important that's up to the 6 older cocks. Thanks in advance Hibby
  18. What have I started . The thing I always find though will a local fancier give you his best? Surely if it has took him 20 yr to get his birds where they are would it not be foolish of him to give them away to direct competition? Because then his last 20 yr has been lost in an instant? I always read of going to a local fancier but I have my reservations seems like so much jealousy since I came back into the sport. Greg
  19. Let some hens out for 30mins try and pull anything about back in but I think there long gone now mate, but you never know..
  20. Yeah I've read article on johnny on elmar,a while back, bet there's not to many Belgian birds have to navigate round mountain ranges like Lake District then the borders on the last leg of a 550+ mile race, that's what makes these birds special to me thinking of what they endured. Just when there nearly all burned out they have huge hurdles at the last legs of the race, that's what appeals to me. Plus the fact when I was a boy looking in the widowhood end there was all the blues checqs etc but there he stood in the middle box with his huge wattle the white grizzle cock the only candidate at the time who was capable of flying bourges 580 mile, he had won the club 4 years of the trot topped the fed 2 of those times and was in the top 5 of the Amal and top 20 other 3 times. He was like the special one he just stood out as the father of the loft. As a young lad of 9,10 he was like a super hero pigeon. And I guess it's always stuck. hIbb
  21. Half day at work today so thought while it was decent weather I'd crack on up the birds let cocks then hens out for bath cleaned threw there lofts got them back in before having to pick kids up from school. while I was on such a role and ahead of myself with time to spare thought "I'll do stock section" I'm on cleaning them out. Sh*t I've forgot to put cocks water back in after cleaning bowl so filled it up off down the platform pops it in for them (there just finishing off there corn) standing admiring them as they eat as you do thinking he's not bad he looks a cracker after moult not to sure on him etc etc. back to cleaning I thought closed door to cocks turns around to about 8 of the 10 stock birds on platform!!!!! My heart raced and sank at same time trying to stay calm but not give birds enough time to think about there next move. I hadn't closed section door properly and had literally opened enough for the birds to just walk through. Slowly walked them in before two decided strike up followed by another two there was a kirkpatrick grizzle my partner just bought 2 weeks ago still out he was all i was botherd about luckily he never struck up and gradually turned him back into loft and once one went through slightly open door rest followed. Altogether I've lost 6 birds out of the 10 they were gone in seconds. feel like such a fool and gutted as that was going to be the back bone for our long distance adventure. But a valuable lesson learned al be it an expensive one. Been spending hours wondering who to pair with who researching the lines etc. on the other hand it gives us a clean slate, as my partner said they hadn't produced anything in last two years but I felt there offspring haven't really had the chance to prove them self. Never mind just haven't had that adrenalin burst for along time when something happens and there's nothing you can do to control it ( except lock the door,,,,) Hibb
  22. How are they comparing to the newer strains, are they better as pure as possible or with a cross? Going to have a look about and see about purchasing maybe a pair of late breds for stock purposes.
