Pentland Fed bird. Danderhall club sec. B.Kinnear 0131 664 1367.

Midlothian Fed racing from Otterburn cancelled basketing for 24 hours due to strong winds forecast???? Could have got a suntan yesterday with barely a breeze at this end so ??????? Birds sent last night but all being brought back now because of the weather and everyone awaiting their arrival at their clubs. Good or bad, who knows, but after yesterdays heavy losses from most other Scottish Feds could well be a good thing???????

And furthermore bluecock, if you read my post you will see that it was aimed at Vicki and not you or other pigeon lads. I used the words failed miserably in a language that she would understand and to give her a little insight into the world of pigeons and thoughts of the owners. Of course I wouldnt use those words with pigeon lads that already know what the score is! Would you rather I said " Oh the pigeon is a waste of space and fit only for the bin".............. like you seem to have inferred in your post!!! Nice one mate.........very clever knowing this non fancier will read it. Vicki has went to a lot of trouble caring for this bird and does not need or want to read that kind of comment! And furthermore, I have dealt with or repatriated hundreds of strays over the years, and still do, yet you try to make out I think all lost pigeons are miserable failures. I have sent many a good pigeon back to their owners who have been over the moon. I have made many friendships through this with countless offers of young birds over the years for my good deeds. You dont know me or my thoughts mate and I gave you no reason to attack my character or my thoughts. You just jump in feet first without even thinking about it. Do you think that because I have only just joined pigeon basics I know nothing? You know nothing mate if you think that!

You are not the only one bluecock who has lost good pigeons....... and there is nothing in my post that is talking about your pigeons or anyone elses for that matter. Did I even mention about any other pigeons other than pidge? What are you babbling on about mirrors for? Read between the lines mate before you go talking a lot of mince. What does it tell you about the pigeon, if the owner who knows it better than anyone else, isnt interested in getting it back? It tells you its not worth the hassle to him..... so why? Is it because it won any races? Hardly mate, it has failed to reach up to a certain standard thats why.We are not talking about a young bird here mate we are talking about a yearling. It made a mistake getting lost in the first place and it made a second mistake not trying to head home once it was liberated away from Vickis.Who knows what mistakes it made as a young bird but the owner didnt seem to think it was worth its salt.Do you think that the owner wouldnt have sent for or collected this bird at the earliest convenience if it had won any races? Of course he would! It has been getting fed and watered and has had as much rest as it liked and made no effort to get home.Perhaps it did get better treated than at home , who knows, but you dont know that either. Just because it was getting fed and watered doesnt mean the bird has brains staying where it is. What planet are you on? I have had birds return with injuries so severe that I have had no option other than to have them put out of their misery. That shows courage and determination to get home....... regardless if it has even won a race or not! What efforts has pidge made to try to find home? None is the answer to that and why in my opinion it has failed miserably as a racing pigeon. We are not talking about getting lost in timbuktu mate we are talking a hundred mile or so! I have had many lost birds clearing or finding their way home after being fed and watered for much longer than pidge did. You think that pidge is some kind of future champion? Then why dont you offer to re home the bird? You say I think too much but your problem is you dont think enough before you open your mouth and put words into your post that have never even been mentioned. You said that I think that every bird lost is a failure.......where did I ever say that? I am talking about one pigeon in particular that with all the facts laid out IS nothing more than a failure as a racing pigeon.Do you mean to say you cant even SEE that by reading earlier posts? Like I said, if you think it is some kind of a champion now or in the future then why dont you send for the bird? Surely £40 carriage costs is little to pay for a future champion! Before making comments on any of my posts I suggest you read my posts carefully and UNDERSTAND what I am saying or meaning by them before you go ranting on about what thoughts YOU think are in my head.I am perfectly entitled to say what my opinions are and they are based on facts. What is your opinions based on..........what you think is in my head? I suggest you think about the FACTS instead of making a post full of nonsence and perhaps look in the mirror yourself and ask yourself "Do I know what I am even babbling on about".

Well Vicki,I cant say I am surprised at the outcome of this and expected to see a new post re pidge yesterday:( Unfortunately, pidge has failed miserably in his role as a racing pigeon and why the owner doesnt want him back. Albeit,it is still the owners responsibility to get his found pigeons repatriated at the earliest convenience and even more so when the finder is a non fancier. The RPRA should throw the book at this owner and it is exactly what he deserves! Thing is though Vicki, pidge would be of no use to anyone who has racing pigeons, especially with its past record, so re homing him could still be a bit of a problem. It is also illegal for anyone to rehome this pigeon without the owners written consent, ie a transfer of ownership form. Your best bet would have been to advertise it FREE in BIRDTRADER and perhaps a local lad who has fancy pigeons could have used it as a foster parent to bring up young pigeons that his fancy type of pigeon are unable to feed.Either that or someone who just keeps a few pigeons as pets.Like I say, pidge would be of no use to anyone who keeps racing pigeons. Now that you have reported it again to the RPRA nothing can be done with pidge untill they have taken the required action and forced this member to send a courier to pick this bird up. It will be closed over the weekend too and by the time a courier has been arranged and is able to collect the bird then Im afraid the saga will continue over the next week.Dont feel guilty pushing the RPRA into action against this owner as he has brought everything upon himself and you have done MORE than enough to resolve this! Hopefully this time, we shall see the pidge saga come to a conclusion????

I agree there is MORE than a good chance the pigeon will be back so I dont think we have heard the end of this Had a lost pigeon in myself a few weeks ago that I released 12 mile away from my loft..... and it was back at mine before I was! Fingers crossed..............

Well done PIGEON_MAN for the phone call to the sec. Lets hope this saga gets closure this time! Like Vicki says, why could this not have been done 6 days ago instead of it all dragging on untill now? I was accused of condemning or burying this owner in an earlier post and I am even more convinced now that he has already buried himself!I was even on the verge of sending a courier myself and the word burying would have taken on a whole new meaning if it had gotten to that point! The only thing that stopped me was the delay incurred for the courier pick up which would have dragged this on even more for Vicki. This owner has done more damage to the sport than he realises and for what? He either couldnt be bothered with the hassle or his pigeon wasnt worth the price of a courier! Fingers crossed Vicki that you get this resolved once and for all. Many finders would have given up by now at this so I take my hat off to you for your perseverence:) Well done PIGEON_MAN for the call and well done Vicki for sticking with it. Keep us posted as to the outcome tonight, I am on the edge of my seat here haha!

This whole saga is becoming nothing less than an embarassment to the sport of pigeon racing. Surely there must be a fancier somewhere in West Sussex that can help Vicki out here and pick this pigeon up??? She has already managed to contain the pigeon before being told to let it out again and it is making an attempt to try to get into her home as a place of sanctuary. Doesnt sound like this bird will be too much of a problem in trying to recapture it and a rattle on a tub of corn should do the trick! Cant believe West Sussex is a pigeon free zone so must be someone out there who can relieve Vicki of this burden? Come on lads, surely someone can help????

Hi,Think you will be on to a disappointment here as it would be like finding a needle in a haystack.Homing Unions usualy only keep records for 10 years but now in the days of the internet there are ring issue lists older, but only for the odd couple of year. The ring is indeed from 1973 which makes it 39 years old and the original owner could be long gone by now or not even racing if still alive. The history of the ring will be virtually impossible to trace as the the ring could only be recognised by one person, the owner, if he can remember that far back! The chances of him reading this 39 years on is nigh on impossible but stranger things have happened so you never know!! You dont sound like you are a pigeon fancier so if its any consolation I can tell you that the letters SU on the ring stands for SCOTTISH HOMING UNION and the number 73 is indeed the year 1973. The letters SB stand for Scottish Borders federation.............. so what you have here is a pigeon that originates from the Scottish Borders somewhere. It could be from many of the SB clubs but finding the exact owner would be almost impossible.Shame its not an English ring as they issued ring lists through the British Homing World pigeon weekly going back many years. Its nice that you are showing the interest to try to trace the owner and I wish you well in your quest:)

Hi Dave, again I have to disagree with you.I can understand what you are saying........if it were the case that there are NO facts here. There are indeed plenty of facts here and I dont need to bury anyone as the owner is doing a perfectly good job of that all by himself. If you read the posts it is plain for all to see that this owner has made no effort whatsoever in making this non fancier think well of our sport, nor has he even made her feel good about herself for all of the effort she has put into tending this bird and trying to return it to its rightfull owner. All he has done is make Vicki wish she hadnt bothered with any of it and after all is said and done at the end of the day, she STILL does NOT know the reasons for lack of contact or reasons for not picking the bird up.We are dealing with a non fancier member of the public who knows nothing of our sport and who only wants to do a creature a good turn. Every effort possible SHOULD have been made into making Vicki think highly of our sport, and its members, and not be made to think it was all a waste of her time.It did NOT happen that way and she is left feeling bewildered by the whole experience. FACT!! Have you ever heard anything so ridiculous as liberating a bird from a garden which it has already been living in for the past week and getting fed and watered at regular intervals? Do you expect this pigeon to CLEAR? I think NOT! This only shows that the owner was not interested in getting this bird back, as he, as a pigeon fancier, would have known that this bird would still stick around! What was wrong in getting his son to pick the bird up ASAP from this non fancier as he stays quite local or within distance? His SON could then have taken on all of the burdens of returning the bird.....to his DAD! These happen to be facts Dave and show clearly that this owner has made NO effort whatsoever in resolving this situation. I dont know how many facts you need to BURY someone but as I see it, he has already buried himself! I am not having a go at your good self Dave nor am I judge and jury over this owner. The FACTS speak for themselves though and are plain enough for all to see. I have not buried anyone who has not buried themselves already and I dont see why excuses should be made for these so called fanciers. This owner should have appologised profusely to Vicki for NOT picking his bird up and ruining her day.........regardless of the reason behind it. Instead he left her, following a phone conversation, with NO understanding whatsoever of his failure to resolve the issue of her trying to help HIM and HIS bird. FACT!! If you read into the posts it is not hard to see what has went down here and as far as I am concerned this so called fancier has buried himself WITHOUT any help from me and deserves anything that is said about him. I am sorry if you dont agree with me and my opinions and that is your right, just like I dont agree with your words. The FACT remains that this kind and caring member of the public was left feeling bewildered by this whole experience and this should NEVER be the case! I did not condemn anyone as you put it Dave, the FACTS speak for themselves. Is the pigeon to blame for Vicki having her day spoiled or the lack of decency in trying to make her understand the problems faced by this so called fancier? I think NOT and as far as I am concerned it is down to the owner for this whole negative experience for her. FACT...........

Have to disagree with Dave on his response to Owen. All that comes from your post is making excuses for the owner by thinking up yourself what could have been the problem with contact. It clearly wasnt anything like you have "THOUGHT" and if YOU read the latest post by the finder you will READ that she STILL does not know what the problem was??? There is no mention of NOT having a phone number, car trouble,or ANY other reason for that matter. His car apparantly made it all the way back home again! Would the owner not have mentioned this to the finder if that were genuinely the case? Would anyone else go to a strange place and leave the most important peice of contact information at home? The finder is NOT amused and quite rightly so! She has NOT been given a reasonable explanation for the owners lack of contact and when he did eventually contact her he gave her NOTHING as an excuse for his non apparance. The finder is STILL unaware of what the reasons were and she was obviously fobbed off with words of no meaning. After going through all this trouble of tending this bird in her garden for a week,to then be told to liberate the bird in her garden when it hasnt even cleared after the first week,is nothing more than scandalous! All these so called fanciers are doing is giving the sport a bad name and excuses should not be made for them.It is very unfortunate that Vicki's first experience with pigeon fanciers is on a NEGATIVE level and who can blame her? There are rotten apples in everything in life and what could have been a wonderfull experience or insight into the sport of pigeon racing has been met with a NEGATIVE attitude. Anyone reading this can see that this owner has fobbed Vicki off with meaningless excuses and has probably never even left poole for the journey!Dont make excuses for these so called fanciers, use your energies and thoughts to thank the finder and appologise for their bad experience.....Dont make up excuses for so called fanciers who dont deserve them! You did a grand job Vicki and thank you for caring. I just wish it was one of MY lost favourites that you had come across as I would have been more than appreciative Good luck with the forthcoming baby....hope all goes well!

Finder has since contacted me re the bird. He apparantly contacted a pigeon rescue site which had a few names of local fanciers willing to pick up lost birds. A chap called Allan from Port Seaton seemingly picked up this bird at about 8pm last night so all's well that ends well so to speak.I thanked the non fancier finder for taking the trouble to report the bird but shame on the owner letting things get to this with HIS bird! Pity I did not get the ring number or it would have been put on here for all to see!

Not getting any joy on phone from number supplied for jason. Tried ringing it 4 times and its going onto voicemail and been charging me each time. Then I get a txt back with ?????, nothing else. I sent a txt back saying.......re pigeon. NO CALL BACK. Called it again and still no answer.Take it the finder does not answer the phone unless the name of caller comes up and/or name is not stored in the phone. Sent another txt to explain with 5 pages and another 50p in charges. Still hasnt bothered to get back to me.Was prepared to give it my time and effort with calls to original owner and petrol etc but getting more and more frustrated by the minute. The ball is in the finders court now so up to him if he contacts me back. Gave it a shot and not a lot more I can do..........Ray

Bird Found St Mellons Cardiff - Green Bands
pigeon359 replied to Guest rbrbrbrb's topic in Found Birds
Hi RB, This may not be a racing pigeon at all judging by your description.Could well be a highflyer of sorts if its "WEE" as this is a colour that lots of this type of pigeon have. Tippler "prints" come to mind as well as pakistani highfliers, and many other breeds also have these markings. There are lots of different breeds for sale on "birdtrader" so it may be worth having a look to see if any compare to the one in your street? These could well have clip on style rings which dont have numbers, but like the previous reply stated, you would need to contain the bird to find out as that would be the only way to trace the owner. The only way to find a genuine owner is by the letters and numbers on the ring and if these are absent then it would be almost impossible to trace the genuine owner.Good luck in your quest and thanks for trying to repatriate the bird . -
Having just joined this site today in order to put a lost bird on, I decided to go through the lost and found and low and behold there was the same stray ring number of the bird I have. The last thread had been placed by gulkie on 14th and 15th June saying that this bird had been roughing it when he got it in. The ring number is NEHU 11 N 2146, blue hen.For that to be said it must have been in poor condition when he got it in and here it is 2 weeks later wearing a brand new yellow rubber. From the time it would have taken to get the bird back to the owner it must have barely had time to get a few decent meals and then stuck in a basket straight away. No wonder it got lost if this was the case! I tried to contact NEHU earlier but it was closed due to the holiday but there was a reply on gulkies thread with the owners mobile number....Wilkinson/Gray. Unfortunately I cant get through on this number for whatever reason????? Would like to know the circumstances re this bird so if gulkie could reply that would be great.Would like to know if pigeon was indeed returned to the owner or if he was told just to liberate when ok? It may well be the rubber could have been on for the two weeks but like I say it looks new so could be either or.If you are reading this gulkie can you give me some info please before I go chasing up the NEHU tomorrow. Ta!
