Just got word back from NEHU that bird belongs to someone in Fauldhouse. Bird being collected tomorrow:)
-
It was different falcons used John. The first one to be released was a different bird to the one being fed on the rope at the end. The bird at the end was a bird with more white than brown feathers and the one at the start with the hood taken off was more brown than white feathering. I think Ian is correct and the first bird released was lunch. There was absolutely nowhere it could hide and I am surprised none of the pigeons tried to dart under the cars parked there as it seemed the only place of sanctury! It appears to be several different falcons released throughout the video. I think the paper slip with number 4 drawn from the urn was the pigeon which was to compete against a particular falcon? The falcons need to be in top shape too and with the amount of pigeons in the baskets there would need to be several falcons. If there was only one or two then they would be knackered by the end of one or two chases each. Could even be one fresh falcon to one fresh pigeon, so that everyone had the exact same chance fitness wise of falcon and pigeon? Must be some funny money involved though as by the looks of the Arabs they aint short of a bob or two with their big top of the range cars!

Thought I would check on here on the off chance this is a basics members bird? Have tried the NEHU ring list but it only says its a CROSS THE MIDDLE RING SCHEME RING but was unsold at the time the list was put on. Will put it on pigeonland later but waiting to hear back from Davy as am having trouble accessing the new site. If it belongs to anyone on here then let me know the colour of it and we can take things from there:)

Just came across this clip on YouTube. Another side of pigeon racing in SAUDI which I presume is called the RACE of YOUR LIFE! Why doesn’t the likes of PETA spend more of its time and money into doing something about these barbaric sports in other countries instead of putting all their efforts into banning channel racing? It beats me!

DONE. GOOD LUCK

Nothing poor about the bird mate, got a lift all the way to Arbroath so down to its own brain it never got home. Got a better chance than any of the rest of them in fact so whats the excuse????? If you got castrated I got crucified lol. Maybe time to get the crystal ball team together as Im sure you can come up with something between you on its whereabouts lol. Joking aside, we do what we can in the time or circumstances we have and sometimes they don’t work out for the better. Such is life and not just pigeons unfortunately:) ATB
-
Hi Willie, sorry to hear the bird didn't make it from Arbroath and ta for letting me know. The whole thing is all very strange but everything is possible??? Hopefully it does appear. The fed sec told me that the bird was released in excellent condition as phone calls had been made regarding this, and that was the information he got. I guess its a case waiting to see if it appears but doesn't look likely now:(

Have just come off the phone with our fed secretary re the stray saga. All 4 strays WERE taken through to LANARKSHIRE on SUNDAY by Malcolm so it appears he is completely blameless in all of this. There is a disagreement between what my club member said re Malcolm not being able to drop the birds off on Saturday or sunday. I wasn't there so I didn't hear it personally and why I don't like to go on heresay if at all possible. Malcolm did take them to the centre on sunday but I don't have any reason to disbelieve my clubmate either so was it said at the time and later circumstances changed and he could find time to take them through, I have no idea??????? The drop off though can be verified by Davie Gullane as each of the strays brought in by different feds are logged in at the centre. I don’t know names and exact times of who picked them up or when but this I can tell you. 3 Lanarkshire strays were picked up on Sunday including the 2 which were on my list. Who by or where they went once they left the centre I do not know? Where they are now, I have no idea? The Aberdeen bird belonging to WILLIEDOO on here had mistakenly been put in the FIFE fed basket. When this mistake had been realised the pigeon was later taken to the far side of Arbroath on Wednesday and was in excellent condition before being released. It was expected that this pigeon should have made it home from there no problem given the circumstances. Did it make it home? I don’t know at this stage? This is where the problem gets even stranger though????? The Dundee bird was also picked up from the stray centre…… on Sunday I think?? Who by, I do not know? This pigeon was definately logged into the stray centre at the same time as the others as can be verified by Davie Gullane. No pigeons were released at any time by the stray centre. Now we all know that I again have this bird sitting in my loft as it reappeared here on Tuesday, which was 2 days after it had been picked up by someone at Lanarkshire. Again I have no name for who picked this bird up? When I phoned the Dundee club sec on Tuesday night he had never heard anything regarding the birds pick up, and didn’t think the owner did either. I have still had no phone call from the owner so I have no idea what he knows? If this pigeon was picked up by someone from Dundee, who later realised that this bird was not his and released it when he got home ( there is no reason if he came from there to release the bird from anywhere else as he would have given it its best chance to get home I would imagine? ) then why did it not just fly the couple of mile or so to its original loft? Bearing in mind that this bird had already had 4 races back to Dundee. Am I to believe that after being released a couple of mile from home it decided that it liked my loft better and spent the next 2 days trying to find out where I am situated? The bird was a little down body wise and starving, but ok otherwise. It took 2 hours to get back to me when I had tossed it at 3 mile previously and could well have taken 2 days to find me from Dundee but why would it? It doesn’t make sense? There is nothing I can think of that would cause the bird to come back here, no mate, nestbox or anything which it regarded as his. Stranger things have happened we all know that, but something about it all doesn’t ring with me and I guess now I will never know???? Thank god we are at the end of this years racing and I can hopefully forget about strays soon and get on with my own life without the headaches. If any of the birds mentioned did make it home to the proper owners then I would appreciate the update lads. That’s all I can tell you for now and all Davie is able to tell you too. Where are the birds now? Your guess is as good as mine but I can do no more…………..
-
Hi lads, bit of an update here but not much Im afraid. Sent our fed sec a txt in the early hours of this morning so that he could look into things further and perhaps have an answer or two before I got up. He works himself and I only got texts back saying he has been trying to get hold of Malcolm Lawson all day without success. What I do know is that a club member of mine was talking to Malcolm at the open on Saturday and he ( club member ) asked him if there were any ML strays? Malcolm told him that he didn’t know as he was not able to take our stray birds through to Lanarkshire as he was too busy Saturday and Sunday! No other reason given, just that. I have not phoned the shu yet as this seems to be an internal federation matter so I will wait to see what our fed sec has to say before taking this any further? By all accounts it looks like these birds never reached Lanarkshire in which case Malcolm was the only one capable of releasing them. I got the Dundee one back last night at 4.45 looking thinner and absolutely starving! If Malcolm kept these birds in a pannier until then I don’t imagine they were even fed as I doubt very much he is supplied with grub if he only drops birds off and collects others? This matter concerns the whole of our federation but more so myself and the other ML lads who put in any of the total 14 or 15 strays in the basket this week. It also affects those waiting on birds being returned. Had I not put a list of the birds up then this thing may never have come to light! When I speak to our fed sec I will update further. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out what has happened here but hopefully I am wrong in my way of thinking??????
-
PS. If anyone is confused with what I mean, I had the Dundee bird at the clubhouse twice. A week past when the club basketed elsewhere so I took it home again, then again Friday when it went away in the stray basket. JUST TO CLARIFY
-
Hi bigjamie, this gets worse by the minute eh lol. Ive tried hard to think what could have happened here as that means all 4 haven't reached their destination. If they got tossed out at the stray centre in Lanarkshire then the 2 Lanarkshire birds could have walked it home! Something isnt right here that's for sure! I managed to get hold of the club sec in Dundee earlier and the DF pigeon hadn't been repatriated at that end so the one I got back tonight has definately been released from somewhere. Where though is the question????? I gave it a full crop before I basketed it but I noticed on its return it was slightly down in weight and absolutely starving. I will contact our fed secretary tomorrow and get him to phone Malcolm to see if there is any light he can shed on this as to why the birds didn't even reach Lanarkshire? If they did, and it was a cockup at the centre, then how come I have the Dundee one back tonight? It doesnt make sense does it? I may have to phone the stray centre myself too so bear with me mate and I will try to get to the bottom of this. THE SAGA CONTINUES..............
-
Can any of you lads let me know if there has been any further developments regarding any of the 3 strays mentioned except the one already verified from bigjamie? I mentioned earlier on this thread that I had also put in a 4th Stray from DUNDEE in the same basket but didn’t put it on the list with the 3 birds as I had phoned the sec of the club it belonged to and asked him to let the owner know it was on his way. I actually asked him to tell the owner to give me a call as I could not find his number and the owner would have been expecting it through the stray basket the week prior. To date I still have not received a call from the owner. I first put this pigeon on the pigeon basics found birds on 24th August. After speaking to the owner, a nice old guy, it was agreed that I would either get someone to try to release it nearer to home or I would take it a bit away from my loft and do likewise. In the end up I could only take it 3 mile from my loft and 2 hours later it appeared again. I then phoned the guy and told him the latest news so we then agreed to put it in the stray basket. Bear in mind here too that this pigeon had already had 4 races. As I have explained previously, I have only been able to race 2 yb races this year and I took it along to the club in my own free time only to find no one there. Apparantly the club clock base station wasn’t working so those racing had to take their birds to neighbouring EASTHOUSES club. After several attempts to try to find out what had happened at the club and being pushed for time because of work commitments, I decided to leave it till the following week and took the bird home again. I again phoned the club sec and explained the latest dilemma and asked him again to get the owner to call me as I no longer had his number. I didn’t receive the call and the pigeon then went into the stray basket at the weekend along with the 3 birds mentioned at the start of this thread. I again phoned the club sec explaining what I had done and let him know that I still had not received another call from the owner but the bird was now finally on its way. Well if that was not enough of a headache to contend with, the bird arrived back at mine at 4.45pm tonight! You could have knocked me down with a feather and I am NOT a happy bunny!!! I have tried again to phone the club sec and the phone has rang out 4 times now. What on earth is going on at the SHU stray centre only GOD knows, unless any of the psychics on here can tell me lol. As I type this I have no idea if the bird has been picked up and made its way back here from its original home or if it has been flung out at the centre in LANARKSHIRE and came back here of its own accord! If it has been flung out at Lanarkshire then I am utterly disgusted after all the work, time, and expense I have had to put in to try to repatriate this bird! I now have to contact the club secretary once again and get him to give me this owners numbers and go through the whole procedure once again before it can be resolved. With not racing and few losses because of this I already have too many young birds and not enough space in the ob loft to put them in next year so a transfer is not a suitable option. Like I said to those critisisers previously, you know nothing about the circumstances at my end and the effort I put in to help strays and you jump down my throat for what you think! GIVE ME A BREAK expletive remove!!!! For those of you interested enough I will update you on my findings later as I will be sure to get to the bottom of this one way or another. If this bird has been flung out at the stray centre then I will want to know why after all of the effort put in!! If any of the other 2 out of the 3 lads could let me know one way or another if they have had their birds repatriated yet or if they KNOW that their bird is still there waiting to be picked up then I would appreciate an update. Thanks lads.

Hi REDCHEQHEN I couldn't agree more:) It can be so frustrating at times and I have had similar experiences on more occasions than I care to remember. Even voice messages have been left and been ignored, and the phone number details were taken from the ring so there was no excuse! One mobile number on a ring I called for days with no success,or even a reply to a text message sent, eventually went through the RPRA. When I spoke to the owner I was told in an unconcerned tone of voice that he had lost his mobile months ago and had a new number now. HELLO????? UPDATE YOUR RINGS MATE, OR TAKE THEM OFF YOUR BIRDS TILL YOU GET NEW ONES MADE!! We persevere regardless though, as there are still some good and caring people out there that do appreciate what we do:)ATB
-
That's brilliant bigjamie, ta for letting us all know as soon as you could, panic over lol. Could still be a headache for the Aberdeen lads though as they have already had their birds picked up so now other arrangements have to be made:(
-
They have got to turn up as it is all 4 I think that haven't arrived. Its not a case of one bird being accidently been put in the wrong basket. All 4 are awol so they have to be somewhere. I will do my best to find out where, I can assure you of that:)
-
Hi Willie, sorry about the hassle involved mate and hopefully we can get it rectified soon. If anyone can get this sorted it will be me or I will be on them like a hot rash!
-
Maybe it was different arrangements this week with him having a theatre night arranged and perhaps had personal things to take care of during the day ahead of this, taking them yesterday instead????? Perhaps the pannier was laid to the side next to some GB birds that still had to be traced and then forgotten about when the bulk load of the newest strays arrived? We can only surmise at this stage until things can be clarified by Malcolm in the morning??? Hopefully we can get this headache resolved!
-
Fed sec has just been back on the phone and hasn't been able to get hold of Malcolm as he is on a night out at some theatre. He will try again later to catch him and if not then first thing in the morning and will let me know asap. Could just be a mix up somewhere hopefully as our fed was one of the few who basketed Friday and raced Saturday. The rest of Scotland basketed Saturday for todays race so there would have been a days difference from our birds going to the stray centre to the majority going to the stray centre the following day???? I am hoping this is the case anyway and only the latter baskets were checked for any of the birds phoned up about???? As soon as I hear any more lads I will let you know. Friggin nightmare eh!
-
Just came off the phone with our fed sec and he has now spoken to Peter Calder who reckons 100% that the Midlothian stray basket containing about 15 strays went to the stray centre on Saturday. Apparantly all club stray baskets go to Easthouses club first and are then taken on to the stray centre by Malcolm Lawson. Our fed sec is trying to get in touch with Malcolm now to further verify things so as soon as I hear more I will let you know straight away.
-
Hi Lads, I am as much surprised as you to learn that these birds aren't yet at where they are supposed to be????? I placed each bird in the stray pannier on the back of the trailer personally when the pick lad was here doing his rounds. I watched him drive out of the club to go to his next pick up and that's the last I saw of them. I really am not happy about the situation either after the time and effort spent caring and trying to repatriate them. I have tried to phone our club secretary who was at the club on Friday when the strays went away and he is also Midlothian fed secretary. The phone has rung out 4 times so I sent a text to tell him to phone me straight away. I also put a 4th stray in the basket from Dundee but didn't mention it on the list as I had already told the owner by phone to expect it. I have just come off the phone to their club sec just now and he has picked up the Dundee strays and the one I sent back wasn't there either although there was one for the same guy but different number. As I type now our fed sec has just called me and is phoning our race controller as he is there with the wagon when any strays are dropped off. As soon as I hear back I will update you all so bear with me lads. I am trying my best here and things are outwith my hands as soon as birds leave from our club. A bit of a headache for you lads and for myself, so I can only apologise on other peoples behalf and see what I can do from this end.

Well all seems to be quiet tonight on the site and I take it most will now be tucked up in bed, lucky sods lol. Not long before I head home myself with a free mind for a change instead of me thinking of how next to defend myself! This ongoing saga should never have occurred in the first place and a post that should have had a maximum 3 replies tops from owners of the 3 birds has now turned into 31 replies and 1131 views in less than 2 days! Hopefully this topic has now come to an end as I am sure most are starting to get bored with it just like I am:) Like I have said previously, if anyone has any issues with any of my future posts then please pm me and I will do my best to clarify whatever the question is. Don’t go assuming what is written between lines because there will be nothing hidden. If I have failed to mention something it will be because I have thought it of little relevance. If something needs to be clarified then feel free to ASK before jumping down my throat. Its as simple as that and no big deal! Good luck to all who are racing today:) PS. you are the only one Mick who has had the decency to apologise for getting the wrong end of the stick and I thank you for that. The rest I can live without so no worries:)
-
Doesn't affect me Gary. I only managed 5 old bird races this year and 2 yb races and wont be going to any nationals either. Still have more birds left than the ob loft will accommodate next year but circumstances prevented racing so few losses. ATB if you are racing yourself from LEICESTER:) well done Jim:)
-
No worries Mick, a smiley makes a world of difference in any text or post as it shows the true meaning or attitude of the author and I have seen it on this site a hundred times with posts being mis- understood though lack of punctuation. Even the lack of a full stop can lead to a mis-interpretation of what is meant. Me, I have a lot to say for myself for this fact alone. I call a spade a spade and say it how it is using the appropriate punctuation as I don’t believe in having people trying to read between lines and reading something that they think is hidden amongst my words. I can be accused of stating too much but that’s where and why my text or post should be read AS IS and not what people think it is meant to mean. I am all for ripping into people where it is deserved and am one of the first to speak my mind about something I know to be right or believe in. I wont leave you guessing what I mean, FACT. In this case I think a pat on the back is warranted for my efforts and not to have the pb lynch mob waiting to pull me up on every little thing that they THINK is between the lines of my posts. The owner of the bird which had the telephone ring saw nothing wrong in the way I handled the information of his bird and indeed thanked me! Others saw it as a chance to brighten up their Friday night and try to shoot me down for doing a good deed by insinuating things not even said in my post. Get real lads! Not one of you who tried to criticise, including you mick, even asked me one simple question before jumping onto the bandwagon and telling me how wrong my actions were and how you all deserve fancier of the year award for your own good work with strays. That simple question was, when did I get that particular bird in or how long had I had it for? I told you I tried to contact the owner a couple of times without success. All you know from the owners post was that it was lost a week prior from Ripon. Did I actually get the bird in 10 minutes before I went to the club and took what strays I had? I could well have only got it in 10 minutes prior and having failed to contact the owner twice by phone I had to rush to get other strays away. In this scenario, would I have been better to leave this particular bird in my loft to find out what the owner had to say first? Knowing too that next week will be SNFC from LEICESTER and there will be no strag basket? Do I keep the bird till whenever and if it didn’t clear then the owner would be liable for FULL repatriation costs? What would you do under these circumstances? Not ONE of you even thought to ask and jumped in head first at what you thought was written between the words of my posts! Even the Admin side of things started the ball rolling by insinuating that the bird could have been home by now without even knowing how long I had the “POOR BIRD†as it was called! Was that a feeble attempt to put me on a guilt trip for my actions? Only he will know that. As far as I am concerned he is another one who failed to ask the simple question of how long I had the bird? How can he state the bird could have been home by now? If it had came in 10 minutes prior to the club then how would it be home in that time? If I had it longer then how does he know what I have done with it? Perhaps I did have the bird longer than that but how does he know that I hadn’t attempted to release the bird or even tossed it without it clearing or heading home? How can it be suggested that the bird could have been home by now and trying to put me on a guilt trip by not doing enough for the bird? You all want to jump down peoples throats assuming what you THINK you know, but in actual fact, know nothing and don’t even think to ask before shooting your mouths off. You can all try to give me as much flak as you want when it is DESERVED. DO NOT try to shoot me down when I do more for strays than most or some of you:) To the lads who backed me up on this I send my thanks. How is it that you can see the GOOD in the things that people do for this sport yet others see it as a means of livening up their Friday night with a lot of accusations or insinuations of something or circumstances that they know nothing about? I have explained in previous posts that I call a spade a spade and leave people in no doubt what I mean. In the future before you go trying to shoot me down take time to read my posts and UNDERSTAND them! If there is something that you feel you don’t know about then ASK! Don’t go throwing insinuations or accusations about when you have no idea what you are even talking about. Forgive me if I do not know that people on here are psychic and can see into the future or past. Im afraid I cant so you will need to take my posts AS IS lol. Now if you will excuse me , I have other things to tend to. I have already cleaned out my lofts and its now time to grab another 40 winks before heading off to work again. I have repatriated many many strays over the years and will continue to do so in whichever way I see fit. If some don’t like my methods due to circumstance then it is you who have the problem and not I. ATB:) PS. Have one for me tonight Mick…….lucky sod lol.
-
So that’s your opinion and you are entitled to it. Whatever mate. I am not even racing this week and went to the club especially for the strag basket when I could have been doing other things! Are you another one who doesn’t read posts correctly? I said I did call the number twice without success and I have other more important issues in my life to contend with that you or anyone else knows nothing about. You continue reporting strays in a manner you see fit and I will do what I can from my end. If you don’t want any of your birds to land in Edinburgh then send me a list of the ones you have lost and I will make sure I don’t bother reporting them if I get them in:) P.S. I happen to be at work right now and didn't come on here to defend myself. I am letting the owners know where their birds are so what problem is it of yours or anyone else how I go about it? If this is the way you all want to spend a Friday night nit picking then all I can say is get a life. Right now I am busy. STAY CALM AND ENJOY YOUR PIGEONS. ATB:) CORRECT MATE.

That's what I heard too. I ordered my wing stamp as soon as I could but when it didn't arrive before the first race I was on the phone argueing with the guy. Luckily I wasn't going to the first race so all was well as it arrived soon after. I was under that impression myself though so ta for clarifying:)
