  1. Thank you, hoping for a good turn out!
  2. As far as the birds go, it would be interested to see the top two birds off the list you guys would be interested in over there, and compare it to what the majority of fanciers are interested in over here.
  3. Why not use ACV instead to create an acidic environment in your drinking water? Not only does it do that, but its chalked full of vitamins and nutrients. Thats what I use.

  5. I'd say by far Janssens. Every racer from any party of the world has probably heard the name, and most owned a pigeon with their blood.
  6. Not training yet but the birds sure do love to loft fly and route in this cold weather.
  7. Very true Tooshy. Thanks for the adice Just Ask Me, I have two breeding pair and have room for about 10 young birds at the most, which I plan on racing next season. Thanks Thomas, I have seen that article and thats one of the reasons I ask. It would be nice to see some personal experience with winning small lofts.
  8. Does anybody have or know of small lofts that win? I would like to see them and how they are set up, as well as the system of racing used? Lets say smaller than 10'x8' or so. I love my little 4'x4' loft, but its definitely not set up ideally for racing, and one I find a new location to live, I would like to build another small loft as I most like will not have a permanent location for awhile. Thanks, Johnny K My 4x4:
  9. I agree, in every animal adequate exercise should make them more healthy and possible fertile for longer. In my own loft I have no experience with old bird fertility, but you sure can see the health benefits of birds who get exercise and those who dont.
  10. I was at an auction/seminar this weekend, and the speaker Rick told a story of a Chinese breeder whose business was buying good(expensive) birds from around the world and bred them and sold the young. Well, some of the older birds were not fertilizing, so he had absolutely no use for them and would let them free. So Rick asked him why he was releasing birds he spent a fortune on, and he said that while many of them flew away and did not return, some of the ones who stick around became fertile again after exercising and being free. Just a story I heard and thought it was interesting.
  11. February 14th because thats Valentines day and sets the mood in preparation for all the love making that will ensue.
  12. Well, snowed a few inches yesterday, so im glad i got it done!
  13. Over here doctors often suggest eating live yogurt for humans and dogs after antibiotic treatments. My brothers bulldog just finished some antibiotics and the vet suggested mixing some live yogurt in with the dog food. IB, exactly my thoughts on vaccines after an infection as well. In fact, since an infection contains all of the antigens of the pathogen, it should cause an even better immune response the next time.
  14. Its good to hear their opinions rooster, thanks for posting. To my knowledge though, a vaccine is just meant to help your body recognize the pathogen faster by creating an immune response to non-infectious parts(antigens) of the pathogen contained in the vaccine. So if the bird is already infected, I dont see the point in putting more burden on its immune system with a vaccine. Thats why I wonder why he would have this view.
  15. Thank you Wiley, im no carpenter, but I did what I could to make it eye pleasing for my neighbors and I, just wish I could have a bigger one!
  16. Thanks for the pointers Davy! I may not add any, or just a few one or two inch diameter vents in the front bottom of the door. The round soffit vents have wire mesh behind the louvers, so no verman can access them.
  17. Yeah, they look perfect, now i have decide on copper or black.
  18. Perfect, check these out: http://www.copperlab.com/store/vents/soffit-vents.html
  19. Ahh, good idea. We call them soffit vents, ill look into if they have what im looking for! Thanks!
  20. That is one of the reasons I covered mine as well. Luckily the vents in the rear are completely protected. I plan on shoveling around the majority of it though to try and preserve the wood, we'll see if that happens when its below zero though But what about for me
  21. I already met that dude, and accepted. Yay for washing dishes, delivering food and bartending Haha, ok back on topic, enough with the economy rant, but saving money through only buying the medications needed is a necessity for my economic status, so it relates
  22. Hello all, do you make any changed to winterize your loft? This is my first winter with this loft, and it has too many windows so I cut plexiglass for all of them yesterday so they still allow light to pass. For ventilation the roofing has large gaps in the ripples at the tap, and can exit at either side, I hope its enough. I would like to add a few more vents towards the bottom on the front. Does anybody know if there are round vents with a 3-4" diameter in black metal? I need a water heater, but besides that im not sure what else.
  23. That gives me hope The economy is so bad, no else accepts my C.V.
  24. Good read indeed Rooster, but some things dont make much sense to me, such as: 3. Fanciers that treat their birds against paratyphoid in fall (6 weeks before mating) do the right thing. He is against vaccinating unless birds are infected. In that case a cure should be followed by an injection. -Is he saying treat the birds with an antibiotics if they are not infected, and vaccinated when they are infected? That is nonsense in my opinion. 18. Doctor de Weerd claims that pro biotics are a pure waste. His college dr. Schroeder fully agrees -I think probiotics are important after antibiotic therapy. Antibiotics destroy both pathogens and beneficial bacteria, and probiotics should help jump start the beneficial bacteria colonies.
