  1. as you know we only have fantail but we are interested in looking after and the welfare of our birds that's a big part of the enjoyment that jack my 2 year old grandson and I enjoy together (and I hope we have many many years of it) so I try and read all the threads talk to pigeon fanciers mostly homer fanciers its hard to meet people who are interested in fantails I heard stories about some people removing rubber rings to clock in earlier some people clocking in at different lofts and some not even sending birds to races but still clocking in winners a very famous fanciers caught at it in the 6 counties a few years ago he won some really big race and the TV even did a program about him and his winning bird and it turned out it never even few the race I think from around Ballymena area if memory serves me right so if someone is determent to CHEAT it doesn't really matter what you do they WILL find away around the rules or regulations not very sporting but were there is money involved well that's says it all but this thread is about GETTING THE BEST DEAL POSSIBLE FOR ALL IRISH RACING FANCIERS LOOKING TO PURCHASE ETS
  2. looks like jack and anto are the only ones with a bit of sense not only that but both are putting this out for disscusion and TRYING to organise other fanciers TRYING to get the BEST DEAL POSSIBLE jack anto MAITH THU (GOOD FOR YOU)
  3. thanks for that jack I think what your trying to do is the right path to go down my only concern was people thinking "he only has fantails what does he know about it" bottom line the ets ARE expensive any saving that CAN be made is better in the pockets of the fanciers
  4. some may think why am I butting in on this answer I'm a pigeon fancier (fantails not racers) I think it makes good sense if you can go to one of these companies making the ets and say we are look 150 units we want your best price and before you answer we have already been to your competitors get a price now what's the CASH price for 150 units now what are you throwing in as freebees I think you would get a better deal buying say 150 units as apposed to going on your own and buying 1 unit ALL ALL clubs SHOULD be going along this line if not the club members SHOULD be asking questions as pointed out earlier with the credit crunch everyone should be looking the best possible price my thoughts for what its worth

  11. after reading some older threads some member said about giving their birds natural yoghurt as its full of GOOD BACTERIA at this time of year the water is freezing if you put natural yoghurt in your drinkers will the cold kill all that good bacteria or if you put warm water in your drinkers again will the warm water kill the bacteria should the yoghurt be used at this time when thinking about starting to pair up ?? maybe someone could post the dosage per litre of water thanks micko
  12. Straights & Nutritional Comments Maize The several types of maize don't give much feeding value in difference with the main differences being mostly in outlook and the vitamin percentages. Maize contains many digestible carbohydrates, little raw cellulose and an awful lot of fat. Peas Peas are the protein carrier to the corn mixture and they have a very high feeding value and are easily digestible by the bird. Difference in protein percentage can differ from type to type. Those used by Johnston & Jeff offers consistency of percentage. We do not use cheaper peas like the Canadian trapper peas where the difference in protein content may be 10% lower than those that come from New Zealand. Beans The same feeding value as Peas but on average have a little more protein and fat. The Tic Bean is an ideal breeding food for young pigeons. Wheat The wheat used in our mixtures is grown by a farmer just outside of Hull and the wheat bought is of biscuit quality. This means that it has a high percentage of protein and a lower percentage of fat then maize. New crop wheat is always used for the Moulting mixture as new crop wheat contains a lot of sulphur which is an ideal moulting stimulant. Tares These are actually a pulse and are very high in protein and therefore are only used sparingly in mixtures. Safflowerseed Is rich in good digestible proteins and oils, phosphor and vitamins. This is why they are very useful in moulting and racing mixtures but their own problem is lack of Vitamin E content. White Dari It is very sweet for pigeons to eat but contains very little fat and very little protein. It is therefore, an ideal grain to put in to depurative mixtures or as a supplementary regulator to prevent a mixture becoming too heavy to digest. Red Dari (Milo) Very similar to White Dari in that it contains very little fat and only around 7.6% protein so prevents the fattening of pigeons. Naked Oats Very highly digestible food offering reasonable amounts of protein and extremely digestible fats. Barley This contains a lot of raw cellulose, little fat and little digestible protein. This is the ideal cereal for depurative mixtures and overweight pigeons can be brought in to condition again with barley. Buckwheat Contains an awful lot of raw cellulose but less fat than that of oats and the protein is a higher biological feeding value than most of the cereals. To be used sparingly in mixtures. Linseed Linseed contains a lot of fat and proteins; it is also a laxative and gives a shine to feathers. Hence its use in moulting mixtures and depurative mixtures. It must be used sparingly due to its properties.
  13. haha don't know what you are all on about why do you boys and girls not follow a proper sport nothing like a group of young men (and women) on the pitch with hurls none of your £30,000 a week player on those pitches just amatures who have the love of the sport A REAL SPORTING GAME tune your TV's to RTE and watch a real game you are all on here waffling about Celtic rangers and what other teams but ask yourselves just how many Scots or english players play for YOUR team ??? its only a game so get over it its just like racing your birds if you don't get ENJOYMENT form racing you shouldn't be at it soccer, ruby and the likes are for WIMPS micko

  25. CHAIRDE FRIENDS I had a terrible thing happen yesterday I never posted last night looking advice simply because I was embarrassed by it so what happened it was really really cold but believe it or not the sun was shining and in the enclosed yard which is south facing it wasn't to bad I put the pigeon bath out 2 kettles of hot water and added the cold and made it like a baby bath let the cocks out give them a handful of barley they got that into them and headed for the bath nothing out of the ordinary in that I hear you say the birds got in the bath soaking up the heat after about 1/2 hour I went and out opened the trap rattled the tin some came in others didn't so I left the trap opened after about an hour I went out to get the cocks all in to let the hens out 5 of the cocks were that much weighed down with water I had to lift them into the loft the were freezing cold and to be honest I thought I was going to loose them I got the hairdryer and dried them of now I know bathing is VERY IMPORTANT but her what's the sceal (story) on this you cant have the likes of this happening so what do you do ???? anyone who has any advice please just don't read this and move on POST YOUR ADVICE some of us need to learn that's why we are on this site as you all know we keep fantails they are a hobby for jack and myself to enjoy and we DO ENJOY the birds but paramount is the birds health and wellbeing so as you see there was 5 birds that could have died from the cold so we do need the advice ps forgot to say we were in the loft this morning all the birds are fine and looking well after there wash and blow dry micko and jack aged 2 years 2 months lol
