sure feels like 365 days in my week just now, but im sure u know what was meant.

My widowhood cocks can see out of their loft at all times of the day, 365 days of the week. there is a lot of things told to us about widowhood that to me, at times just dont make sense and believe me, I learn something new every day. i think that the feeding systems in place today have more to do with how much our widow cocks are allowed to do and how they perform at the weekend than most factors. You must make sure they have put the energy in during the week, but what you do on a Friday is paramount to your success on the Saturday.

nothing in his feeding changed ecxept after his normal feed he was given as many peanuts as he wanted from the monday eve up until basketing on wednesday afternoon
-
our 6th open reims, 548 miles was on widowhood. wouldn't change anything except the feeding leading up to basketing

I'd just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Tommy Broadwell of Silverdale Lofts for breeding my cheq cock that was 6th Open Reims. He has 3x1st and 3x2nd each time beaten by loft mate. One absolute racing machine Tommy. Can't thank you enough mate. All the best Kenny

i think the first three are 1st wil flockhart, 2nd peter virtue, 3rd jacky wishart. very well done to these fanciers. nicer pigeon folk are hard to meet. ourselves, i think we are 6th and if you had seen my brother and i on friday night when our pigeon dropped youd have thought we had won the lottery. about 550 miles on the day. i know of very few experiences like it.

early times are peter virtue, cockburnspath 19-16. kenny and stevie bald, easthouses 19-50

The sire of the y/b will be 'Heart of Midlothian'. His racing positions are 4th,3rd & 2nd as a yearling. This year he won 1st from 72 miles, 1st from 240miles then 1st Open SNRPC Newbury National 318 miles. The only pigeon I bred of him last year also won 1st club this year. The dam of the y/b will be one of the best Staf Van Reet breeding hens in the country. She is direct dam of birds to win 6x1st, 4x1st, 3x1st, 3x1st, etc. 5 generations of winners from this hen. Should anyone require further information on these birds then please phone 0773 406 3983 anytime or 0131 663 4825after 5pm All the best Kenny

just remember that they are only y/bs for a few races then old birds the rest of their lives. You should be trying to build a team of old birds that can compete every week for 10-12 weeks.

thanks for the congratulations. my phone never stopped from 11am yesterday till i switch it off at 10pm. A bit overwhelmed by the whole thing to be honest as the calls have been from fanciers all over Britain and more strange was I dont even know half of them. Ive never had such a stomach churning experience in my life waiting for the result to be confirmed. I hardly ate a thing after timing in on Saturday, but we did have a drink or 6. Well done to all those that did get birds and lets hope a few more can make it back. I, myself am waiting on some very good pigeons. All the best Kenny

5 generations of winners from a cock that is only 6 years old would suggest that there is not much wrong with the constitution or more importantly with performances. Stockmanship and racing are a totally different issue and what is practised on the race team will not neccesarily be practiced with the stock birds. Breeding club and fed winners for other fanciers would also suggest that these birds can and most definitly do rise to the top under all different types of loft management. As far as buying these type of birds goes Bruno, not many fanciers will gaurantee their birds will produce prizewinners if bought in pairs for breeding. I will. Could u do the same about the progeny of your super constitutional birds or are they just the same as mine. RACING PIGEONS that are treated differently
-
i treat for canker and cocci before and during the racing season as the last thing you would want is a problem during racing when every second counts. those fanciers that dont treat are taking one big chance that i wouldnt. i certainly wouldnt look after the race team all year for it to go off midway through the racing

shelbin, if ur in a past mining area try applying to the Coalfields Regeneration Fund
-
if u breed from your race team then try just breeding from the sons of your proven breeders and this will increase your chances of breeding pigeons of the same type.
-
agree with heathcote, linebreeding much easier than inbreeding as it will take you a few generations of breeding to be able to say that the family is inbred and your selection criterea for offspring doesnt have to be so severe
-
widowmaker, if u pair the hens to ur stock birds i would only let them sit about five days as in the past i have let them sit for ten days then removed the hens only for them to be past their best come the distance races
-
ben, i had a yearling van reet fly 500 miles twice in the space of 4 or 5 weeks last year being in the result of the national both times. nothing much wrong with the constitution there.
-
i think that the van reets brought over in the 1980s have stood the test of time no matter who brought them over. When the breeding lines are right you end up with stock that breed generations of winners
-
the albert irwins cross into van reets loft is responsible for some of the best birds to fly in this country

Is the chistmas race open to anyone or just shu members
