  1. Went down to the loft this morning and found it dead on the floor... :-/ I wonder what was wrong with it??? I have had a young bird show similar symptoms and also died last year.
  2. Hi Went down to the loft today and saw one of my tumblers in a real sorry state all puffed up in the corner. It hadnt eat for a while and was a bit skinny. I isolated it and made sure it had a good drink and some food. when i looked a bit closer i noticed that its eyelids where really red and it didnt want to open them... :-/ Has anyone ever come across the same sort of thing???

    pigeon loft

I started with a 4x2 loft with 3 birds...got addicted and now have a 10x6 loft split into 2 sections with an aveiry. I am worried when i start racing next year that this loft is too small but my friend assured me that with the right management that i will be able to race comfortable with this loft if on the natural system. ;D
  5. cheers for the infomation... greatly appretiated I have had my first pair of racing pigeons today and i am just trying to get some knowlege for later on...
  6. hi I am just wondering if anyone trains over the winter??? If so do you take them for tosses or just let them fly out?
  7. HI As i am just starting up i would like to race the oldbird and the young bird races next year. As i have no birds at the moment i would like to know what is the best way to get some birds that i can race next year. People have offered me birds to breed off next year but i would like to race the oldbird races. For me to do this will i be able to get some latebreds ringed this year and race them in the oldbird races next year... ??)
  8. Might sound a silly question but if you send a hen that is sitting on a 5 day old yb to a race then won't the young bird die? I only have a small loft and i need all the young i can get. Is it just a chance that the cock may look after???
  9. I only have a small loft for starting up this year and i will only be keeping 16 ob's and 20 yb's, will this be enough to race with??? All i am worried about is loosing say 10 birds and my season may be ruined. Do you know many good flyers that keep around this amount and do well?
  10. sorry forgot to say i only have 5 tumblers
  11. Hi I have had tumblers for 3 years and i am now getting some racers and i am going to race next year. I have a 2 section 10x6 loft and have knowhere to put these tumblers. My parents say i can't get rid of them and they are also fed up with me adding new sections on to my loft and taking up more and more of the garden. I just wondered if it would be ok to leave them in with my racing hens section not alowing them to breed... what do you think???
  12. cheers sammy and dave... ;D i will find out what the majority of races are 'south'/'north' and then try and train somewhere on the same lines... ;D
  13. Is it best to train for the direction that your club races to??? or does in not matter. ??)
  14. Do you have to to take your birds on certain lines to train them or deosnt it matter where you take them. For example most people from my area train from a place called claines... do most clubs just race 'south' or 'north' or do they race everywhere....
  15. cheers for the advice everyone... ;D Might be boring for you vic... but new starters need to find these things out mate...
  16. cheers lads... Do you have to prove to you club or fed e.t.c that you have vaccinated against PMV ? and if so how do you prove it??? Also do you normally do it your self or if i buy it should i ask someone in my club to do it...
  17. Cheers bruno and craig ;D Does the vaccine come as an injection? and where is the best place to get it from? Does it just protect against PMV?
  18. also... is there one product that can treat for most things ???
  19. I have heard people talking about vaccinating yb's. Is this a must for all racing birds and does it involve an injection or tablet? What is the price per bird if you do it yourself... :-/
  20. Might sound stupid questions ;D 1. If i have some young birds this year and breed off them next year will i be able to race the old bird races next year with the birds that i will have this year??? 2. Do you split the sexes up over the winter on the natural system???
  21. I also use terulings... ;D
  22. I have had tumblers for 3 years and i have been interested in the sport before i had them so i have read a lot about systems etc. I also think it would be good to start on the natural system first. I am not interested in winning anything, i am just glad that my parents have finaly let me extend my loft and race from it. I have been down to the local club and spoke to a few members. They all were very helpfull and couldn't beleive that a youngster was showing interest in the sport. One member said dont worry about a clock because he would lend me one and he even offered me some yb's. How do you motivate on the natural system???
  23. Hi I am getting my birds in a week and i wondered what is the best system to try if you are starting to race for the first time. I understand widowhood but dont know weather it is best too just start with natural??? how would you start if you were starting racing from scratch... all advice welcome!!!! ;D ;D ;D
  24. How do you now if your birds have yb sickness ??)
  25. will the muck come off there feet on its own???
