  2. hi sapper ,, good to get back to the birds,, many good posts on this thread,,ol try my pennies worth 1,,, 90 days b4 intended race [varying on systems and bird] 2 allow them to rear two yb,s 3,,,,3 to 4 races for a mature pigeon with 5 to 600 miles in mind 4 feeding would again depend on system,, but would increase protein then last week high carboheydrate,, yeast tabs down them each second day 5 again depending on system,, natural sitting 10 days,, cocks or hens ,,w/hood to suit the individual bird 6 again depending on system but if natural , keep to the same routine,, pure water ,,a must ,,,normal feed high carbo the bird must have it in it, to cope with this flight, i,e breeding, and showing signs of comming in a hard race, would emphazise [ big word spelt wrong ] personally prefer the bird to have done 8 hours on the wing a few weeks prior to sending,,, just rattled this off quickly hope you do well o9,,, all the very best jimmy

  17. you can be asured that much has been done to retreive this trophie
  18. if i have transferred any threads [none are deleted ,, all kept] to the webmasters private thread , if requested ive allways given the member the reason ,,,, but mods have no need to do this ,[as per rules] the reason being that mods just simply dont have the time to answer asap or in fact at all,,,,as theres much more going on , most of the time , there many posts to go through,, rules are broken by all, this is a way of life, most are easy mended , but when its habitual rule breakers , breaking rules on purpose , to disrupt , im sure you must agree this cannot go on
  19. yes this unfortunately is true, the webmaster has since re-arranged the forum , [quite a few times to suit the members , obviuosly] we now have a board for most all things pigeonwise, starting at the main notice board , right down to the lost and found, , many posts are in fact not deleted but merely changed to the board suiting , i,e lost and found , illnesses, race day , and many many more, one instance maybe to explain ,,on the illnesses , we have a " whats wrong with my pigeon thread" now if these are all on the same board it is far easier to look back on for any fancier wanting to find out whats wrong with their bird or post" whats wrong with my bird ", so there is, in fact a board for most anything pigeon related , if all the posts went on the main board , we would have lost found, illnesses , race day ,show birds , chit chat ,, just to mention a few, the webmaster has went in to great detail to ,, keep each subject seperate for easier looking back on , as they soon would disappear on the main board , page by page , sometimes these boards are abused by few , which off course theres no need for,, i think its fair to say , the webmaster has worked long hours , with much thought, to make this forum , the biggest and best forum there is , and in my opinion we should all be very gratefull for this , there are many who would like to condemn , but there are far many more who are gratefull, for such a forum
  20. i dont think theres a direct answer to that one,, there have been good winners racing both systems , in my opinion the most important thing is the bird must be bred and managed i,e. set up for the individual race ,,, for the job in hand
  21. {MOVED-MESSAGE-PLACEHOLDER}
  22. yes, it is poss. but tony,s post is true, also this" driving" i beleive,,,is natures way of taking excess fat off the hen b4 laying
  23. a pigeon never being out in its life , usually dissapears, if let out,,,,,,[many will find this when they buy birds like this at blackpool] if i were keen to break this bird i would be very carefull with it,, first it would need a" lookout" box [a wire cage on top of the loft] or preferably an aviary , where it can see its surrounds , even then, [whilst feeding youngsters or sitting ]still place it in the look out box around the garden , or as many differnt places around the loft ,, when its the birds time to sit or feed yb,s, let it fly into the aviary from the cage , as near to the aviary door as poss on its own,, then try it , but birds that have never seen the light of day [some studs etc] are most usualy lost when let out,, , but with a little patience and practice , you will get the odd one homing ,,,best of luck with your one
  24. weve kinda deviated slightly from the" fed on the box or floor" , but were still asking about the feeding like most questins on pigeons , theres no quick and easy answer, old yellow , i would say was right in saying,, if pigeons are tamed young, they will remain tame, if allowed, if youngsters will fly on to your hand for a tit bit, they never forget this bond with their owner , and all goes to aid this tameness, or confidence in their boxes as old birds, [when w/hood cocks feeding their youngsters is a good time to re-kindle that bond, which should be very easy if tamed as youngsters......but in n wales novice case, a change of loft will certainly damage this bond, and in my opinion , would need worked on,, i,e as above, when the cocks are feeding youngsters , they must get used to your hand in their box , without them scatting away,, feeding them by hand in the box, gently playing with them , fighting with them [letting them win ,every time] ,,,,,,,then when on w/hood gently opening the door of the hens side [without the cock diving out] letting the cock in the side with the hen , the cock will not be long in catching on , if unafraid , and treated gently, hell learn to know exactly whats wanted , he should be waiting with antisipation , to get in to that side where the hen is,, so , if tamed as yb,s theyll cotton on quick as ob,s , even if the loft is changed or moved , just with a little t,l,c, ,,,and patience
