TOWARDS THE END OF THE FLIGHT, THE WEATHER TURNED REALLY NASTY WITH , GALES , AND FOG, SO THE CATALINA WAS NOT ALLOWED TO LAND AT SULLOM VOE IN THE SHETLANDS, AND WAS DIRECTED TO ABERDEEN, BUT THE STORM CONDITIONS WERE JUST AS BAD, OR WORSE, AND THE PLANE WAS WAS THEN DIRECTED TO OBAN. THERE WAS NO RADIO CONTACT, SO THE CAPTAIN PUT MESSAGES AS TO THEIR LOCATION INTO THE LEG CAPSULES OF EACH PIGEON, AND SENT THEM OFF. THERE WERE TWO LIFE RAFTS, BUT ACCIDENTALLY ONE OFF THEM DRIFTED OFF WITH ONLY TWO MEN IN IT, WHICH LEFT TO MANY MEN FOR THE OTHER RAFT, AND EVERYONE VOTED TO STAY ON BOARD THE PLANE. ONE OF THE PIGEONS NEVER MADE IT HOME, BUT" WHITE VISION" FLEW 60 MILES AGAINST THE GALEFORCE WINDS WITH VISABILITY DOWN TO ZERO.IT LANDED, HAWK ATTACKED AND COMPLETELY EXHAUSTED,WITH MOST OF ITS FEATHERSMISSING. FROM THE MESSAGE IN THE CAPSULE, CALCULATING THE WIND SPEED AND THE TIDAL DRIFT, THE RAF SENT OUT THE LAUNCH AND CAME ACROSS THE CATALINA AFTER ABOUT 40 HOURS, AS THE LAST MAN JUMPED THE GAP BETWEEN THE TOSSING PLANE AND THE LAUNCH,THE PLANE IMMEDIATELY SANK, AS THOUGH SOMEONE,,,,OR SOMETHING, HAD BEEN HOLDING IT UP TO THAT VERY MOMENT. while another member of the forum was up at me to day, i had my birds out [which im not supposed to do, but up to now ok]the lady neighbourwas watching the birds and commented how happy they looked , flying, and in the bath,so ive got one neighbour on my side but anyway she was telling us about "a big hawk bird ripping a dove apart alive," she was horrified and went to chase it, and the hawk flew off with it, she said so watch your pigeons as this bird is also eating "all her wee birds she feeds" ive seen it myself , its a perigrine, seen it kill the other day, BUT IM WATCHING, WOULDNT LIKE TO SEE IT HARMED?????

my own opinion is that a good cock will beat a hen,,,,but a good hen will beat a cock,,,,i would say race the system that suits you, i found the problem with widowhood hens is not knowing if their going to lay, so would prefer keeping it simple and racing widow hood cocks,, but natural for a hard 5, 600 mile race, when vel. are low,,, widowhood for vel , over 1100 at distance , but all depends on the individual pigeon, what it races best to

allthough the bird looks like to me a bad case of respiratory problems, but agree with keepsmileing queen, if your attached to the bird try the tylan it may do the trick, and if it does youll have one of the tamest pets going :) good luck

just another point of instinct,, is , say a three week old yb in a basket needing a drink, if the drinker is filled first and yb put in basket, ittl take a bit of time to find water,, but if you basket the thirsty yb , and it heres the" splash" of water being poured into drinker it will immediatly go for the water, ,,,,its never heard this "splash" b4 but it knows its water :)
