  1. sorry to be so late with answer tony c ;D but they did fly the dark wildies , but their brother les who flies in darlington [who won the louella car] races brilliant as well ,and off course theve cutivated a strain over the years , swopping and pairing winners to winners , im sure les from darlington was 1st 2cnd in their biggest race [cant remember excactly what race ] a few years ago , but one of them was called dark velvet,,, the winner of the car was" bonnie blue"which was 1st club 1st fed 2cnd west durham amal, and 2cnd open vaux international from eastborne with 27,716 birds competing , i was the proud owner of a yb from this bird ,which topped the fed the very first race it was in approx 5 to 6000 birds, this was many years ago , but they are still racing as well today,
  2. mainly sprint middle , they won the mnfc [i think it was]400 miles a good few years back with a pigeon called " clive 76" this bird was a phenominal racer, and responsable for many winners , down the line , many of his sons and daughters won as well, all in the fed , at that time 5000 birds approx i myself won 13 out of a possible 17 races in a club sending 5to,600 birds per week and also won the fed supreme ave, most of these birds were related to that pigeon
  3. i understand what your saying craig, but some times theres differant members of a family on the same computer, but maybe man and wife, father and son or even just freinds most of them are gennuine but there are some that are not,,,, not many ,thank god .
  4. i would much rather cultivate my own strain , again depending on the distances you aim at,, but this takes a lot of time and a lot of trial and error
  5. all distances , really , but on getting a bit older i would prefer long distances
  6. ive seen crows kill the pigeons but at the same time they do ward off the sparrow hawks,, ive had birds killed recently with the sparrow hawk and it has dawned on me that this has only happened when my parrot [african grey] has been kept indoors , hes usually out flying free all summer, maybe a coincidence, i dont know , but will keep my eye on this, the parrots never been attacked in 6 years flying out, again maybe coincidence, but when you see the strength in the parrots beak [ break a ckicken leg bone" just like that ;D" and if he decides to take a chomp at me, well to put it mildly , i would rather put my finger on the step and hit it with the claw hammer, ;D ;D ;D

    feeding

a feeding programme for widow hood cocks is pretty difficult to explain , but the main facts would be the distances you would intend to fly, but there are some great books , articles etc on this, covering most distances, i think you would get some great advice from the writtings of jack barkel
  8. :) happy birhday jumbo , have a great day
  9. yes 829 members it would be great to reach he 1000 mark which to my mind quite soon will :)
  10. would liked to have made it as i had met jimmy before, im sure the sale will be successfull, as he had put up some great perfomances, i remember the happy times when jimmy came up with noel higginson and alf rothwell, and just comming in to ediburgh, alf phoned me and said "were lost " i said" can you explain where you all are" at that alf replied " i dont know ,," but there a great big bl,,dy hill in front of me" ;D ;D ;D off course that was athurs seat, ;D ;D ;D these 3 fanciers helped greatly in the moot which i had organized ,, raising,,£3824 for the anthony nolan bone marrow trust,, but due to jimmy cowan and the others this would not have been possible.
  11. wooff bros and son new ollerton after 40 years at the top their still at the top
  12. my opinion there should be codes of conducts for posting
  13. i think it would be a great idea over here, as far as chatraces race goes the constant info you receive , results ,training, pics etc , is absolutely great, and at the end of the day for such a good cause
  14. the only real colour change ive seen is the chocolates , ive bred them b4 as ybs were pure chocolate, but as they got older moulted in a lot of white feathers
  15. i think if you put a little in their water they get used to it same as p nuts they wont eat them at first , then you cant stop them, same as tic beans if theve never had them b4 they take a bit of starting , but whatever in the water , during racing its allways pure water on a friday, as they will drink their full.
  16. :) see how you keep learning, ive used cider vinegar but reading the thread looks more sensible to use organic cider vinegar
  17. SAFE TO COME OUT NOW
  18. meant to say that ,, crush each clove with side of knife b4 i put in container
  19. i usually take a couple of garlic cloves put them in a cotainer 3pt one , cold water added give it a good shake , then the next day tip a good 2or3 of tablespoonfulls in their water allmost every second day , make it up about fortnightly, but agree with bruno boiling it will take the allicin out, and renderit pretty usefull,, if you do happen to make it too strong they wont drink it or shy away from it ,, theil tell you themselves
  20. their absolute beauties darran and in some nick ,,nice pics
  21. this may also have some advice for you barry
  22. i agree barry this is a good book , but sharing feeding methods really is very difficult as ,i have found , it all depends on the distance you fly and the type of race, in the vey short races , most feed a depurative mixed with brewers yeast and pure lemon juice [as the bought stuff contains additives] some will feed this on home comming until the tuesday or wed , but for the long races this is out alltogether in my opinion , so whatever your type of racing is , i would tend to do some reading on it as this is very important in my view,
  23. IT JUST SHOWS YOU HOW QUICK THEY COTTON ON, MY BIRDS HAVE BEEN KEPT IN FOR 6 YEARS JUST LOFT AND AVIARY [RULES OF THE PLACE WHERE I STAY] BUT STARTED LETTING THEM OUT AS COULDNT BARE TO SEE THEM LOCKED IN ALL THE TIME, HARDLY SEEN A HAWK B4 BUT NOW, LOADS,, NOTICE ANOTHER BIRD MISSING TOO. THAT B PIED WAS THE BEST LOOKING YB IVE BRED THIS YEAR AND THE BREEDING WAS IMPECABLE [sOLELY BRED FOR STOCK]
  24. fairs fair and credit where credits due,, after having problems with amtrack in the past must say that this time proved to be an excellent service ,,,birds picked up yesterday at 2pm delivered this morning 10 am
  25. one of the beautifull latebreds on photos post [the blue pd] killed by hawk yesterday ,, last week b cock hawk attacked , managed to save pigeon ,and get that hawk
