will a cock rear a young bird himself
Andkar Lofts replied to lordcornwallis's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
had a yearling racer cock that raised a pr of yb's from 5 days old after losing hen ,did a damn fine job of it aswell, both youngsters where equal in size & quality on weaning ....in my opinion depends on the individual bird .......... -

How to get young and old interested in any sport
Andkar Lofts replied to DOVEScot's topic in Notice Board
my 7 yr old g/son ( who lives with us )has been keen on the birds since a toddler but has started to want to watch them fly out,due to fact that my birds are fancy pigeons & not suited to flying out ,i decided to purchase a 2nd loft ,& have a team of racers again so to keep his interest & keeness going ,we can enjoy them as a team flying them out/training etc & under my guidance he will assist me in the daily routine with them ,& with the help of 2,very good friends of mine who are members on here they are providing me with the y/bs to start with .............. not suggesting to go to the lengths i have, just responding to the topic & hope that when he's adult he will still be as keen then as he is now ,by my encouragement & help ,as was with me 50+ years ago -
totally agree with that used peeled/crushed cloves in drinkers over 30+ years & as say put it in bath water ,best value for 30p you can get for pigeons the garlic oil is meant to be mixed in with corn ,but it's a waste of money as all the goodness contained in the garlic has gone during the processing procedure ... stick with the cloves in the water

old dutch tumblers and english trumpeter
Andkar Lofts replied to fancypigeon_88's topic in Fancy & Show Pigeons
like the tumblers ,dont see the trumpeters very much now ,which is a shame good luck with them -
agree with that,& do the same with interior my loft also & also use soaked beer mats under n/bowls ...& the only difference is the substitute does not appear to have as strong a smell as the old stuff years ago & does'nt linger ,but still appears as effective
-
agree with chrissy ,coupled with oil seeds such as linseed ( sparingly) & hormoform plus regular baths ....all help ....as does the genetics of the bird in relation to feather qualty
-
try a sonic cat repeller, plenty advertised & available from most d.i.y. stores ,alternatively water jet repeller ,which works on a sensor ... there is always a dog of course .... all which think you will find far less hassle than falling out with neighbours or doing some suggested method which is bound to land you answering a few akward questions ..... also believe it or not not only pigeon fanciers view this site !!

my new loft was delivered by blakes yesterday ,who also erected it .... its 10' x 8' 2 sec'n,corridor loft....all i've got to do now is fit it out ..heres some pics

spot on tam,it includes the recessive/dilute colours also ,lavenders, mosiacs (opal), yellow (cream),grizzle & silvers ( dun)....& as chrissy has said, depends on what colour genes are being carried & if 1,of pair normals is carrying dilute possible for y/bs to turn out dilute ....but as you say that book covers the lot & easy to understand ..........
