  1. Last year I looked at some at Blackpool on a dutch stand. I always look at the pdeigree first to see who is who. Twas a list of ring numbers. That was it for me, no thanx. @I want to see race birds which are winning etc not birds bred just for colour. I like colour and am a fan but on race days the nicest coloured bird is your first one,
  2. You building one like mine. I put the base of 3/4 ply down and then a 12 inch void with the loft ontop. There are 8 trays each a 8x4 plywood size. The floor is industrial galvanized grill flooring about 150 quid each. needed 3 for a 24 loft. The birds don't like it and if I was doing it again I would have turned them upside down as there is more to stand on. The floor is fab little dust inside the loft and I cleaqn out the bottoms every 8 weeks or so. Fantastic.
  3. I trimmed it with a pair of very sharp scissors. Until I was close to the flesh. They don't feel a thing but it is bloody and messy.
  4. James the worst you can make at this early stage is to train too soon on grey overcast days. Remember if you can see definition or better still broken cloud its ok. Beware of the cold grey days. If you train in these conditions your will be finished before start. Good luck.
  5. I have not paired yet and will wait until the end of Feb. Most are yearlings and half are late breds. Neither has seen their boxes yet. I hope this will work out. Anyone tried it this way before and how it work out?
  6. praticully any bird sprint or otherwise is capable of doing 13 nay 14 hours on the wing in a helping wind. Turn the wind around and the real distance champs are generally the only ones clocked. Personaly I like the latter and forget the others.

  8. If it is an old strain where the said founder died years ago I would not call it such. It is the person who has been cultivating them which name should be put on them. For the fancier who wants birds that win at every distance it is time to wake up fella. With fanciers specialising you don't stand much chance if your fellow fanciers are any good.
  9. A red opal cock for 25 quid sure to please or be eaten
  10. I have looked at them and the horse hair types. I am considering buying dandy nests as they are the same price of the horse hair and you don't have to worry about cleaning them, just bin them.
  11. I think the feeders will get exhausted feeding three ybs. The milk at the begining should drain too much out. I would not do it as in the long term it does not add up to getting there any quicker. Only a view never tried it.
  12. ;D Personally I don't see what you are trying to achieve by this pairing. You may well consider pairing the two to unrelated birds then crossing the good ones from those pairings together and to the original two. It may be that you have some yearlings from the first bird already?
  13. Any know Jims phone number I would like to ring him. thanx
