  1. Hi Every one I went to a show years ago and i remember a bloke giving a chat on the bull box system. He had a box/ cage with a perch in the middle and there was one box in each corner, for four hens. Do people still sell/ use these and i was wondering if any one knows how to use them. cheers kev

  4. well i sent one to the rpra one loft race 2009, as i was fed up of people saying that they just looked pretty and couldnt race, so sent it so that every one could see how it went. She did all her training, hot spot races and was timed in, in the big final race. I do race them and they seem to race better the further they are sent and seem to have trouble on sprint races, but other people have done well with them. They are kirkpatricks and kirkpatricks with a dash of Jan Aarden

  7. Had a bird in today that i lost racing this year. It looks like it has been in a very dirty loft as every nail had big balls of muck on them and its tail is really dirty, looks like it has been on a perch and every thing has messed on its tail.Is there anything you would recommend that i can use to clean the birds tail and get it back to normal. cheers kev
  8. thanks for all your replies. I think i will stick to waiting until they are two years. I only now race kirkpatricks so know they are up to the job. I have only dabbled in the north road flying and have never flown from lerwick, but im really looking forward to it. thanks kev
  9. Hi all whilst having a chat to a mate we started talking about racing from lerwick. what do you think about racing yearling birds from lerwick over 500 miles to my loft. He stated that he would think about it and his birds could do it i thought that they are still young and maybe wait till the year after. your thoughts please cheers kev
  10. Hi all Just had a chat with a mate, we both race pigeons but in a totally different way..He races widowhood and i race natural his birds are all shut up and my birds are let out in the morning, do what they want all day and i shut them up when i come home from work. what are the advantages and disadvantages of racing from an open loft. Im lucky i have no cats about and my birds are very street wise so if a hawk is about they know before it gets to the garden and there are off. Your views please cheers kev
  11. HI sent one of my yellow cheq kirkaptricks to the RPRA one loft race 2009 she completed a hard traing regime, flow the hot spot races then was timed in, in the big final race

  13. Hi all I was wondering how people trained and prepared their pigeons before every house hold had a car. what made me think of this, is because I do long hours at work and can only race every other weekend and with the price of petrol and only having limited time to spend with my birds can I compete with the fanicer who trains his birds twice a day and races them on the widow hood system. I only started back racing young birds this year and after all the training only raced the first two races due to work and the odd family wedding etc. I have always in the past raced my old birds on the natural system. I open them up in the morning and shut them up at night and they can do what ever they want all-day. I would give them a couple of tosses in the week and that would be it. But now im at my new club most race the widow hood system and seem to be training their birds a couple of times a day. well i cant afford to do all that training and as ive stated time is in short supply. So the question is am i doomed to be last on the sheet or will my trusty kirkpatricks hold their own against all the modern day continental super pigeons cheers Kev www.spencroftlofts.co.uk

When i walked down the garden all i could hear was a load croaking sound. when i looked into the loft this pigeon was panting very fast and making a croaking sound. Ive never heard my birds do this, is it normal. It seems ok now. Cheers Kevin
