    LONGEST RACE

cannot find a name for the pigeon but it was owned by the duke of wellington it was released from a ship at ichabo west africa on the 8th of april 1845 it flew around 7000mls before dying 1 mile from home 55 days later on the 1st of june 1845
  5. it was actually liberated on the 8th of april and died on 1st of june
  6. Q13 19 days from 1st egg laid
  7. but the best beans are 3 to 4 yr old so what as that got to do with a poor harvest this year
  8. i'd probably say the north road route but then again i don't fly it , i fly the south road route but if i had my choice i would definately fly north road because i would like to try and fly lerwick with birds that have flown 512 mls from france cos lerwick is just short of 500 mls to me and i would relish the challenge with the 100 mls or so of open sea
  9. my birds get beans/peas+tares with adherbs on the corn plus plenty of fresh water and matrix

like i said my dad had them the 70s he might still know where he got them from so i will ask him tomorrow
  11. once had a bird reported from saintes 512mls on a fishing boat in the north sea 250mls off land in 1986 after the chernobyl disaster sent it back yr later pooled to the hilt won the club only bird in race time winning 700 pounds pool money in fed still wish we had birds like that now but my dad packed up in 89 then started again in 91 some birds you can never replace
  12. how many loft's in england succeed regulary at 600mls not many if you want true distance bird's just go to scotland because if you fly a racepoint like say messac for me it is 299mls but for some fanciers in scotland it is 500 mls you see some lofts saying they won bergerac to me 586mls to them it is only just over 300 mls so if you want to start a family of true distance birds ask the scottish fanciers for help in aquiring a family to start with

    training

start second round off about 5mls and increase to 20mls then fetch first round back to 20mls then train again to 30mls/ what distance is your first race
  14. my birds are raced hard but if i was just starting then i would probably just race them up to about 120 mls then stop half of them and send the rest to 2 more races then stop completley that way i know they had some work but there are still pigeon's left at the end of the season that have earned there place for another season
  15. they just leave them alone
  16. no issues with regard to quality just the price went to corn merchants 8.25 a bag i then went to a farm and there's were 6.50 also top quality nice and dark on the bag it said they were harvested in 04 so i'm going to go and get a few more bags while they still got some
  17. looking nice specially pic 5
  18. hi phelo have you got any other birds sitting if so mark the eggs and drop the eggs under two others replacing the eggs for dummy ones when birds get back lock them up till they sit eggs once their sitting tight replace their eggs and they should be fine
  19. if there is more than just the one pair of birds using the food/water dishes then i would move it if not leave it /dont move the nest or parents may abandon it /eggs start to chip 19 days from 1st egg being laid/they may start to look for food of their own after 17+ days/dont worry about them jumping out of the nest they are quite tough i have had fall from about 5 foot and they have been fine
  20. little crackers hope they do well for you
  21. nice mate not into white ones myself but they look nice
