  2. BELOW FOR SALE ARE FIVE TOP BREEDING STOP COCKS FROM ONE OF THE PREMIER LOFTS FROM OUR AREA, G DODGSON & SON, BIRDS THAT WOULD NOT NORMALLY BE FOR SALE IF CIRCUMSTANCES WERENT SUCH.

DUE TO THE UNFORTUNATE DEATH OF GEORGE DODSON PRIOR TO CHRISTMAS, I HAVE BEEN REQUESTED BY STEVE, GEORGES SON, TO SELL FIVE OF THERE TOP COCKS, TO EASE THE BURDEN AND LOAD FOR STEVE. STEVE HAS DECIDED TO CARRY THE BIRDS ON FOR ONE MORE SEASON TO SEE IF HE CAN STILL FLY/ RACE THE BIRDS COMPETATIVELY. IN DOING THIS STEVE HAS DECIDED TO PART WITH SOME OF THERE BEST BIRDS, TO LIGHTEN THE LOAD, AND KEEP A SMALL NUMBER OF BIRDS HE CAN MANAGE AND HOPEFULLY COMPETE WITH. STEVE HAS SELECTED 5 OF THERE OLDER STOCK COCKS TO SELL, AS IVE SAID, ALL BREEDERS OF WINNERS, AT CLUB, FED, COMBINE AND RPRA ONE LOFT RACES.

FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW THE PARTNERSHIP, THEY HAVE MANAGED TO TAKE THE NORMANTON FEDERATION PREMIER PRIZEWINNER, THREE YEARS OUT OF THE LAST FIVE, WITH SOME 3000 BIRDS COMPETING ON A REGULAR BASIS. STEVE WILL TELL YOU HIMSELF THAT THEY HAVE HAD PROBABLY THERE WORST YEAR FOR A LONG TIME THIS PAST YEAR, MAINLY DUE TO THE POOR HEALTH OF GEORGE. STILL, THEY HAVE MANAGED TO BE HIGHEST PRIZE WINNER IN THE CUTSYKE TWO BIRD CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB, WHICH BOASTS SOME 60 TOP FLYERS WITHIN OUR AREA (MYSELF INCLUDED). THE PARTNERSHIP HAS PREVIOUSLY WON ALL BEFORE THEM, IN EVERY COMPETION THEY HAVE ENTERED. VERY RARELY DO YOU GET A CHANCE TO OBTAIN STOCK SUCH AS THIS AT WORKMAN LIKE PRICES.

DONT FORGET, THESE BIRDS WERENT PART OF THE CULL AT THE END OF THE SEASON, THESE WERE THE BIRDS THAT WOULD BE BREEDING THE GOODS FOR YESTERYEAR. THREE OF THE BIRDS COME WITH PEDIGREES, THE OTHER TWO HAVE DETAILS FOR THEM. I HAVE BEEN AND VIEWED THE BIRDS MYSELF, ALL I CAN SAY IS IVE VIEWED THE HOMING WORLD THIS WEEK AND YOU WONT FIND ANYTHING BETTER AT BLCAKPOOL, THAT I ASSURE YOU OF. THE BIRDS ARE REAL TOP DRAW AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, WITH A CRACKING TEMPRAMENT. IF MY CIRCUMSATNCES WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT, I WOULD HAVE DEFINATELY TOOK SOME OF THE COCKS.

NO TIME WASTERS PLEASE, AS ITS HARD ENOUGH FOR STEVE AS IT IS.

  3. I use something that works just aswell, and stops young bird sickness in its tracks. 1 table spoon of cider vinegar mixed with half a carton of natural yoghurt, no antibiotics what so ever. Too many people nowadays are to quick to pump there birds full of antibiotics, all this dies in turn is lowers the birds imune system. Its a little bit like a quick fix for the birds. Also be careful what your using and for what purpose, some fanciers usea  product and dont even know whats it for. Dont get me wrong i use antibiotics myself, but as and when required. It shouldnt be used on a weekly basis simply as a preventative measure, youll be sitting on a time bomb. A dose of epsom salts every three weeks also keeps the birds tip top.

  4. Dont ever kill one again mate if this happens, there is a quick an easy solution. In 1990 we had this happen to one of our very best cocks, whom we was getting reday for the nantes national. I took him to a good old fancier who sdaly is no longer with us. He proceeded to take a knitting needle, and shoved it straght through the birds crop ie in one side, out the otherso that the knitting needle was being held by the crop. Straight away the air dispersed through the holes, and the cock wwas chuckjed into the air and flagged for half hour, hey presto gone. 15th national the week after. Ive goty one of my best stock cocks whom this happens to every year, each time its back ont with the knitting needle. Harsh, yes, but it cures it, and its better than the cull.

  5. I will put Barneys details on the minute they go in the book, i get mine thursday so some of you will have a flying start. Last time the birds were gone in a day!!

Mostly to fanciers in our area, cos we know what Barneys got. When buying birds he doesnt buy the gg grandchildren etc, its direct sons and daughters. Dont miss out

  6. Barney Rhodes of Castleford, one of our areas top flyers will shortly be holding a phone in sale which will be advertised in the British Homing World over the coming weeks. All the proceeds of the sale will go to the Prince Of Wales Hospice at Pontefract. I have come from Barneys today and viewed the birds which he will be selling which totals around 30/40 birds, all of which are out of this world all priced at either £25-00/ or £35-00 each he hasnt decided which price yet. If anybody knows Barney like i do, then they too will know just how much Barney has spent on obtaing the very best, not just from this country but Holland and Belgium too. If it wasnt for Barneys ill health and the fact he cant get around like he used to, i know these birds would be competing at the highest level. The bulk of the birds are Jansen/ Sootjens, from the very best champions around. Last time Barney had such a sale he raised in excess of £3000.

These birds are been sold at only a tenth of what they cost and are worth, why, because Barney loves breeding pigeons for his beloved charity. If your thinking of spending some hard earned cash at Blackpool, you might be better off keeping it in your back pocket and wait for this sale, as im sure you cannot buy any better birds there than what Barney will be offering, certainly not at the over inflated prices some will be charging. Good luck to those who get lucky, Simon

  7. Had to put the birds on deep litter ever since my dad was hospitalised and recovering after surgury. A lad who i know got me some deep litter in the form of dried up pellets, which breaks up as time goes on, and you just remove the muck from the top. Its the best stuff ive ever used, he gats it from out Goole way, i will find the actual name when i go back up the garden, as ive still a bag left. Ive never seen anything keep the huts as dry. Il update with the name of the product, it really is taht good. Simon
