Very true what you say Jim !!!!! & I agree 100%. Certain people in our society as such, have to try understand, that when a hawk/falcon takes a bird etc out of a flock when racing etc, they are the lucky ones so to speak. Most of the others !!!!!! live in fear much of the time & loose their racing ability as such. One could say. Because most of them, fly looking over their shoulder all the time in terror, with the thought of the "Little black Flash" ;D ;D ;D (Peregrine falcon) hitting them again & again, so to speak. So all these do gooders ???? who are breeding hawks /falcons etc for their own reasons, should look at the overall big picture & see the real damage that they are doing in my view, to all the other bird life. Casbri !!!!!!!! What an absolute fabulous effort on your behalf etc, to reach such an age & still be interested in this great sport of ours etc. It is just out of this world so to speak. The way I look at life "Well Done" You are a living treasure here in this sport of ours one could say ;D ;D ;D in my view. But, be very careful from now on thou :P Some may like to stuff you when the day comes ;) Because your blood is worth bottling so to speak as we say & I take my hat of to you, & no way known will I ever reach your age. Roamer1 !!!!!, It really is not all that complicated in my view, only if you wish to make it that way etc, like some people do for their own reasons. Just a few pointers for you to ponder over, I'm quite sure others will give you more excellant advise etc. You are very fortunate today, in fact very fortunate etc. Because you have the internet at your disposal & it's a wonderful wonderful thing to learn by, not just for pigeons etc, but anything in general that may take your fancy, & something that many of us here did not have until recent times so to speak. Pigeons need not be racing fit to breed etc, but they must be healthy 100%+ to gain the best out of them & 3 or 4 rounds should have no effect on there condition. Never let your stock loft, become an old peoples home (Old pigeons) etc, as much as us old folk here, may like to think we are as good as we were, when we were young we ain't ;D ;D ;D. So always have youth on your side (stock loft) & you will be much better off in the long run. Decide at the start, whether you prefer short, middle or long distance racing & mate accordingly & be very wary of big pigeons as such.(not my cup of tea). Being new to this sport, Study your pedigrees if you have them for your birds, they can be of great help to a new comer like yourself, as a starter. Here is the "Cracker" to the puzzle ;D ;D ;D study the eye, its a wonderful part of the pigeon etc (No not eye sign, that's crap ;D ;D ;D) but the eye, different families have different coloured eyes so to speak & I much prefer to mate birds with different coloured eyes together, I like it that way . Now !!!! I have no time for pigeons with large pupils as such & I think you would be wise to do the same & attempt to breed pigeons with small pupils etc & the outer circle rim a fine line & the darker the better in my view, my good mate may advise otherwise to you. But always remember !!!!! no matter which advise/theory at times you may receive & use. Dont try & make it more complicated than it really needs to be, it will make you old & grumpy, very quickly, & take the enjoyment factor away from the sport, which is very important to me, & many others here, thou some may differ to me here, on this aspect. To me a pigeon is like a clock!!!!!! in simple terms ;D ;D ;D it has many moving parts to it, some may appear ????? more important than others so to speak, but to gain the best out of it (correct time) all parts must work in harmony with one another, exactly like a pigeon the way I see it. "But then " I'm only a simple man, & not to bright by some standards, of some people here :P . Always feed the best grain that you can obtain in your area, & as a rough guide 45% protein mix for breeding 25% protein mix for moulting & 15% protein mix for racing & you shouldn't go to far astray. well at least not in my view. Debbie there really are some sick/weird people around etc, but that's just life in general, as we say. 'Now" I was having a very pleasant Sunday morning here, before I come on line etc. Cleaned the lofts, fed the hens fixed up the stockies so to speak, & I was in pigeon heaven you could say, watching the young cocks all enjoying themselves etc in the bath. "Guess what". Old Mrs Gosshawk :P , decided to join them in the bath (Easy feed) & all hell broke loose in the next few minutes :D because her mate also joined in too. Sorry !!!! :P I always try to see the funny side of most situations, as sad as it is at times, for our poor old pigeons etc, but I would much prefer to be that way, if one is too survive in this sport. I think it's fare to assume etc, that most of us take an interest in pedigrees. One could say. "But then" some of us learn real quick ;D ;D ;D which part of our anatomy (Especially if you have an outhouse) to use them on. if the birds are no damm good ;) . Enjoy

Good question !!!!!!! in my view, I also would like to know the answer to this one. For what I have seen, if one does not wish other members to know how your birds come home etc, you just disconnect the clock from the power source. I gather from your comments above ;D ;D ;D your birds are somewhat different from most flyers etc :D because if one believes ?????? a fellow pigeon flyer on race day :P they usually all come home together, one could say. Maybe I'm wrong ????? (Not unusal) ;D ;D ;D. But I think you poisoned them all. In non scientific terms etc, eggs need to breath while in the nests one could say, & all that durimitex in the nest felts etc killed the lot, before they had a chance to hatch, in my view. Enjoy

Being the smart man that I'm ;) :P I can tell ya !!!!! You ain't gonna get any younger :D if you stick with this caper of ours. Now !!!!!!!, Would you believe, those 4 young hens which were missing from the other night etc for me, turned up today. 2 nights out on the town ;D ;D ;D must have found some young buck ????? ;) somewhere, & were enjoying themselves etc. Thou 3 of them, are absolutely knackered (Blowing a gale today) ;D ;D ;D But I will fix them up :X :X :X & it will help toughen them up, for what is in front of them down the track. One thing you might like to consider, along with the other good advise here etc. Is place a couple of small pieces of charcoal down its throat, does wonders at times, as strange as it may seem. Enjoy
