  1. jimmy i agree i have raced thirty years and im still learning ,but i think clubs would be a great idea three or four top fanciers putting a evening club on to attract new comers into the sport ,offering advice for anyone who wants to learn, even having pigeons there to demonstrate when giving advise .
  2. just a thought why dont we have pigeon clubs for fanciers and new comers to learn the art of keeping and racing pigeons . you can learn from football to fishing how to play or fish yes i know we have clubs that are for so called meetings (i mean war breaks out ) but why cannot we have pigeon clubs to learn from real champion pigeon flyers ,the art of housing them feeding training conditioning motivating them etc surley this might bring young people into the sport oreven keep fanciers in the sport or is this a daft question
  3. vic place some cheap chip board at both sides of section so the birds cannot get to the floor ,you will need a board to fit across for feeding the hens and watering them once fed take the board away they will not try to breed as no where to make a nest ,also the boards are easy to scrap clean then put back .this way hens only have the v perch to sit on ,but keep a eye on them in case one falls into the crack and cannot get back up,this also keeps the hens fit as they will not try go to the floor flying from perch to perch i must add you need plenty of spare perches for them that will stop them.
  4. thats the difference from youngsters coming into the sport getting them off the streets , the sport of racing pigeons is to expensive for anyone to start racing pigeons.everythings a secret ,the trouble with pigeon racing theres no one to help any new starter ,where do you go to learn the art of keeping pigeons how to breed good healthy pigeons how to train race pigeons how to keep them clean how to treat pigeons whats the right medication right housing you can go on and on . every sport has a club where you can learn from football to fishing whats there in pigeons nothing . you see everyone starts on the same foot everyones a profesional pigeonman sadly theres only one winner each week ,in most clubs feds the same winners every week thats why people pack in rather then trying to better the winners . im sure with all the kids on the streets if you opened a pigeon club ,and gave honest answers helped them learn about pigeons as above im sure we could get more members into the sport ,im sure if the top pigeonmen in each club where congratulated as champions instead of the monster of the club people could learn from them to make it a better sport for all . look when clubs bring in foreign flyers to answer questions you cannot get in the club its packed to the rafters by pigeonmen. and theres some profesional champion pigeonmen in this country imagine asking them how they motivate their birds how they condition them and getting the answers im sure everyone would be delighted just to pick up one little thing to improve their performances
  5. paul over the moon when he won his first race ,if his mum and dad would have let him he would have kept it in a budgie cage in the bedroom for security reasons ,he can tell you step by step how the pigeon smashed through the doors to win easy easy he keeps telling me and anyone who will listern. but im delighted for the lad he now lives breaths sleeps pigeons
  6. bruno your bang on ,but the lad just into pigeons sadly he bought into the idea of buying these so called wonder pigeons partly because of price ,and fancy name he thought this would take him to the top quicker.
  7. PAUL i was asked two years ago by a young nine year old kid to sell him a pigeon off one of my best pigeons for a fiver all his savings who wanted to join the pigeon club by fellow fanciers ,seemed to be funny by some members. i gave him loan of my stock birds and my w-hood cocks 12 pairs in total for free ,this year alone he has won four first prizes in the club plus other prizes with old birds there not laughting now only lost two birds out of ten w-hood cocks and for free. yes the other lad was foolish but does not really know anything about pigeons ,but was very sad seeing him crying because his birds where dead,i know now he will never make that mistake again. yes you get good fanciers who sell pigeons who want a return on all their dedication time effort but im afraid theres far too many fanciers selling utter rubbish and the people who buy them buy them to make their birds better .sadly it only keeps them back as for sick birds survival for the healthy ones sick pigeons breed sick pigeons bad pigeons breed bad pigeons good pigeons breed good pigeons thats the way i was always brought up on pigeons. pigeons are easy to breed they cost nothing of terms of breeding them ,but far to many people see it as a get rich quick scheme
  8. you hit the nail on the head there bart. put a good picture fancy pedigree sell it as a champion ,people will buy it, i want to know all about the pigeonman never mind the bird ,does he suffer young bird sickness for start ,hows he race them does he win consistantly with old birds does he fly his young birds to the tin ,how many birds he keep how many he races each week whats his losses a season how many birds in club it goes on thats before i handle the birds ,or i would part with cash,. thats the trouble people buy anything and put it in their loft ,only this season i seen someone buy their son a dozen pigeons from a stud it cost him his young bird season full of canker respirtory problems three had died in first week in the end sadly the lot in the bin inside four weeks he couldnt get them right even after having the vet round to treat them.and i wouldnt buy a pigeon from a loft thats never cleaned out ,i know people use deep litter ,but there a difference between deep little and a loft full of crap. another thing what price a pigeon ,some of the prices i see in adverts for pigeons is unreal ,utter rubbish for big money . if you want to get to the top go to a top pigeonman ,not a carboot if hes a genuine guy he will give you them for free not try make a quick buck. i never sold a pigeon in my life
  9. if you are been offered £80.00 as you say for these why not sell them for that price. why sell your van reets if their breeding good birds .as you say your looking to bring in van reets. how many stock birds you got ,
  10. if you are been offered £80.00 as you say for these why not sell them for that price. why sell your van reets if their breeding good birds .as you say your looking to bring in van reets. how many stock birds you got ,
  11. well said alot of money does his performance make it a champion .will it breed loads of winners.looks like a case of its a dutch its worth money .if it was that good it would not be for sale . i never sold a pigeon in my life
  12. motivation
  13. MY OWN I ONLY KEEP NO MORE THEN 9 W-HOOD COCKS DONT RACE ANY HENS ,BREED AROUND TWENTY YOUNG BIRDS ,4 PAIR OF STOCK RETIRED RACERS , SEND AROUND 5 COCKS A RACE ODD OCCASION ALL GO ,ONLY CLOCK FIRST TWO BIRDS . MY PIGEONS HOLD MORE THEN THEIR OWN OVER A SEASON, NOT INTRESTED IN YOUNG BIRD RACING ,ONLY INTRESTED IN OLD BIRDS. MY LOFT IS 24 FOOT LONG I COULDNT LOOK AFTER ANY MORE PIGEONS THEN THAT TO DO THEM JUSTICE. I NEVER RACE ANY YOUNG COCK THAT WILL ENTER MY W-HOOD TEAM AS A YEARLING. YOU ONLY GET OUT WHAT YOU PUT IN
  14. ;DBART IF THE FEMALE SPARROWHAWK KILLED YOUR PIGEON SHE WILL RETURN .SHE WILL KNOW THERES A DINNER WAITING FOR HER EVERYTIME YOU LET THEM OUT.THE TROUBLE WITH THE SPARROWHAWK THEY KILL FOR FUN NOT ALWAYS FOR FOOD. EACH SPARROWHAWK TAKES ON AVERAGE THREE SMALL BIRDS A DAY OR ONE PIGEON A DAY WHICH THEY PREFER DUE TO BEEN A VERY RICH FOOD SOURCE 9/10 ATTACKS ON PIGEONS ARE BY THE FEMALE THE MALE IS TO SMALL TO ATTACK PIGEONS SO PREFERS THE LITTLE BIRDS. WITH A ESTIMATE OF AROUND 34,000 PAIRS OF SPARROWHAWKS ROAMING AROUND YOU WONDER WHY THE PORR LITTLE SPARROWS ARE GOING MISSING . MY BIRDS ARE OFTEN UNDER ATTACK BY THESE SO OUT COMES KOJAK MY CANARY HE SEES THEM OFF

you are right there sadly the rspb like the rspca are dictators and are only willing to see there side of things ,regardles what effect it has on any other birds , thats why all the little song birds are now missing due to the sparrowhawk, yet there still breeding and releasing them into the wild to kill anything that moves

well if i wild hacked say my golden eagle with my bald eagle and they bred two youngsters are the rspb going to say there british birds so are protected by law no way they would probably want them shot. yes i believe in the past century eagle owls have been on this island ,as been recorded of sighting and records state which would make the eagle owl a native british bird eagle owls will hunt happily during day light hours and i have never said theres a picture of me on pb with a tame eagle owl on my arm. eagle owls will live along side man anywhere theres a food chain for them ,same as peregrines will live among people as they do in new york nesting on windows on those large eye sores. all i was saying its not very sensible to release eagle owls in to the wild as some people where suggesting ,

jimmy firstly just because a pair of eagle owls breed over here ,mostly i would say are off captive bred birds ,thats why they are not classified as british birds. secondly i agree totaly with you that britain has in the past had the eagle owl which i also believe was probably killed off by farmers land owners for their feathers for decoration in one way or another . but theres a difference between a eagle owl attacking you and a crow or seagull ,a eagle owl has 40 pounds of pressure per square inch in its feet when it locks onto you ,believe me when they grab they grab ,and are very difficult to get them to let go now you imagine a little kid getting grabbed by one never mind a adult. thats why i say its very dangerous for people to be saying lets go release some eagle owls.and thats not even mentioning about the talons but a good female eagle owl 6lbs of killing machine as big as a small child been hit by one of these ,thats why there at the top of the food chain nothing hunts eagle owls only man,

i wouldnt dream of putting a bird back in a basket if its been missing living in the streets how do you know the bird didnt have something wrong with it . surely this bird could have the potential to wipe alot of peoples hard work out getting their birds in excellent condition for someone to place a bird thats been living in the streets .as you said he had it back and placed in the race next week ,did he train the bird or let it out did it return to the shop if he let it out before he raced it to return to the shop. thats the trouble people dont care what the send or what potential damage they can cause the hard working fancier

well said . if many fanciers got their own house in order as above maybe there might be alot more fanciers staying in the sport .

aint making any cheap jibes lad ,for keeping pigeons as you say for thirty years you seem more content to educate us on eagle owls in a negative fashion think you should be more postive and put all your experince to work nd help us pigeon fanciers to find the solution to there problems of hawk attacks etc ,i wont be making any more replys to you again as i still think you are one of them rspb clowns look im not trying to educate anyone on eagle owls or any bird of prey all im saying its stupid to release eagleowls like people where saying . as for birds been attacked ,ive had birds attacked ,ive had birds return from france with pellets in them ,but i dont go ballistic returning to shoot ever shooter in france , yes its sickening when any hawk attacks your pigeons ,ive never seen so many sparrowhawks same as releasing red kites they just isnt enough food resources to sustain them, i also find it sickening when members send their young birds when there sick, and i listern to the crap they come out with when they lose them all . firstly its always the convoyer who hasnt watered them secondly its they must have clashed thirdly its the hawks

yes i would say its not unreasonable to think this bird as lived in the british isles before it was killed out for its feathers by farmers land owners etc same as the barn owl is becoming more scarce due to farming etc

sammy not so long ago one was causing chaos in northallerton a captive bred bird attacking people and people with dogs.i can assure you i have been asked on many occasions to help capture captive bred eagle owls which have escaped . i have a life times experience of eagle owls and birds of prey same as racing pigeons ,i also use my birds for education full time also i run my own raptor centre i also visit schools adults with learning difficulties hospitals hospices at my own expense and in my own time besides racing pigeons. and as ive already said im no rspb never have been never will be so no more cheap jibes .
