  1. OK. if you want to make a float solution you can easily do this with salt and water. Add 350 grams of salt to 1000ml of water, you want a specific gravity of 1.18-1.2. You can check this with a barometer. You want 2 grams of fecal sample and 10ml of the float solution. Put the fecal in a 10ml container and put a small amount of float in there. Then mix it together. Then add the rest of the solution fill until the solution is almost overfilling. You want this to make a convex on the top of the container. After you have this carfully drop a slip cover on the top of your bubble. Leave this there for 20 minutes. Pull the cover off and put it on a slide. Then check with your scope. Good luck
  2. http://www.albertaclassic.net/2005/PedigreeForm.php There is a couple here. You can print them blank or fill them out then print them.
  3. I let mine stock birds pick their mates and do well with it. Sometimes I have to pair them myself cause they don't on their own or I run out of time but I prefer to let them mate on their own. I think Ad Schearlaeckens believes this is the best way to do it. We have a guy here in the states that is also winning one loft races here very often and he does it. Also Tony Rossi here does it and he is a great flyer. You will hear people say alot of times "I had a pair that I was not even going to breed from and they paired on their own and produced great youngsters." I know for me it has been the pairs that did it on their own that produced the best pigeons for me.
  4. Some races are sill long here in the states if you are on the long end but I don't think you will see 1000 miles anymore. In the past in my area here we flew 1000 and 1200 miles. I know someone had a bird at 2pm on the second day from 1000 miles. It was something like 1100ypm average speed. I think this was the US record and the pigeons they used for this were Abelines and Trentons.
  5. Does anyone know if the dosage would be the same for Fishzole (Metronidazole) tablets? Is Flagil metronidazole also? The pills I have are 250mg but it would be very close to the same dose. Over here in the states everyone wants to put the meds in the water and it don't work real good. I would rather be sure when I do it.
  6. I bred this one last year and raced it, but I lost it. It came from good stock.
  7. Don't any of you have longer race for yb's? I fly mine out to 340 miles here (I am on the long end). I got 6th and 8th club this year at our 340 and my 6th bird flew 1150ypm with a slight head wind. He did really well. Some young birds can do the longer races and do a fine job of it. The birds I did good with were both flown to 5-6 races before this one including 280 and 240 miles. I would not hesitate to send these birds to 500's as yearlings. I might even send them to a 600.
  8. I am ready. Putting my hens in with the cocks tomorrow.
  9. Ok, you can't just use distilled water you need a float solution. These can be home made or bought cheap but you will need a barometer to make your own. You have to measure the specific gravity with a barometer this is what makes the oocyts float because it is density. You should also measure the fecal sample and the amount of float solution you have because you will be checking it to a standard of count per field of view. The float will take 20 minutes. As was said you have alot of air bubbles. I don't see any cocci in your first pics, oocyts are dark in the middle unlike a air bubble they are clear in the middle. The thing in your other pics is a worm egg and I am not sure if it is a Ceacal worm or a Roundworm egg. If you have access to a barometer I will post how to make a float for you.
  10. Silver cocks are more rare? I have 5 at least here. Let me post a pic and see if this is what you are calling silvers. Maybe I don't know what a silver is.
  11. I don't have any birds from the 73 but I do have a page from a Cambell Strange Catalog that might give you some info on super 73. If you click on this it will blow up.
  12. There is alot to it and could not be explained over the internet only. It is not that hard but you will need pictures of the stuff you are looking for to see what they look like but if you know someone who does this it would be easier for them to show you. I bought a book for vet medicine about parisitology and pathology and it would be helpfull if the book was produced for birds. I regurally do fecal slides, fecal floats, and crop swabs. I am learning to do the blood smears but this is a little harder yet. The smears you just smear some fecal sample on the slide and check it for worms. The float is used for cocci and this is done by putting a certain amout of fecal in a container holding the right amount of float solution then stir. You fill this until it is almost too full and produces a bubble then you put a slip cover on the top and wait 20 minutes. Then you pull the slip off and put it on your slide and count the cocci. It should not go over 4 per fiald of view at 10X witch is really 100 power cause you have a 10x eyepiece on the scope. The crop swab is to check for canker and you use a swab with saline solution on it then stick it in the birds crop and rub the sides. Then you pull it out and put it on the slide and drop a drop of saline on it and smear it around the slide. Canker is a one cell organism and you can see it swimming around on the lens when you have it. The hardest thing is you have to know what you are looking at and without someone showing you it is hard but you can use a book and with practice you will learn it. Post a specific question and I will try to answer it.

    Ivermectin

How can this kill a hawk? I give it to my pigeons right down the throat. If you put enough on a pigeon to kill anything that ate it, your pigeon would be dead first. As someone alse said it would just deworm the hawk. I also give this to my dogs every month .5cc per 10lbs for heart worms (it is the active ingreadent in it anyway). It does work as a good wormer for pigeons 2 drops down the throat. The reason the dog died that was said before is because all hearding breeds are alergic to it.
  14. I stand mistaken thanks for the help guys!!
  15. OK, I hope this fixes everything. I was doing more research and you guys did not tell me the grandfather on the dam's side was the cock from the famous Krom Pair.
  16. Thanks for the help. I did a pedigree I could understand and also found some more info what do ya think? It is looking scetchy but if you click on it it will clear up.
  17. What is ggs? What is this ras camphuis bird?
  18. I have a import I just got to breed from for YB's next year and I don't really understand the pedigree. There are names of lots of famous birds on this but it is unknown to me if any of these birds are the famous ones or just birds down from them? If you click on the pic it will blown up larger. Thanks
  19. Not trying to impose on your post but I just made my first pic like this and wanted some opinions on it. I like yours alot and the guy that did them is very good.
  20. Thanks, there were 140 in the race.
  21. Ok. I will tell you what I did and how I did. I am a first year flyer so keep that in mind. I switch to a high carb/energy feed on wensdays. and feed all they want wensday and thurs (picking up after 20 minutes). I put honey and vitamin B complex in the water friday. I feed half rations friday morning then about 3-4 peanuts per bird. The race was good and it was 340 miles to my loft. They had a 5 MPH head wind. I got 2 birds out of 8 today and placed 6th and 8th club 11th and 15th combine. My first bird was going 1150ypm. Some of the club guys are 40 miles shorter than me and some combine guys are 80 miles shorter than me. There is only one further than me here (by 2 miles) and he did not clock a bird today.
  22. Thanks evryone we will see how it goes today.
  23. I can't believe anyone would support peta if they knew what they stood for. I assume everyone on here keeps birds right? Well peta does not support that "they don't believe anyone should have any pets or keep any animal in anyway, they think animal should roam the earth free". This acticle is true and they can sue over it if they want but it is just for show to make people think it is not true. Here is something good to watch about peta just watch the whole thing it will be very eye opening. Oh, and this has been out there for years and peta can't do a thing about it. http://www.zippyvideos.com/9679762012931896/penn_and_teller_bullshit_peta/
  24. What are you guys doing before shipping? Honey in the water? No feed on shipping day? Tell me what you do. I am racing a YB 350 miler sat and need tips on setting them up.
  25. I can't cause it was not my bird at the time. Thanks for the advice everyone.
