Depends which system you fly your birds on. Some systems you are better only entering section to let out or train.

My old hen was 14 years old when this happened and she went on to lay another 2 nests that year. But your right 17 is a good age for a old hen laying.

Had a similar thing a couple of years ago. Nature ended up taking its course and the old hen layed an egg that was 1 1/2 times normal size and looked like 2 eggs joined together.

Heard today 2008 SNFC YB NAT WINNER W Hay Methil has had a letter telling him his application to join the SNRPC has been unsuccessful.

Will never use them again. Had used them for a couple of years with no problems and bought another batch from B&R last year at Blackpool. These were used in my racing loft last season were we lost 30 plus ybs in the nest 1-3 days old. At the same time in our stock loft we used black felts i had left over from a batch i bought in Belgium the previous year with no problems at all. After much head scratching/hair pulling/dropping & swab checks i phoned B&R and was told i wasn't alone and it seems to be a bad batch of felts. Have since heard it seems ybs suffocated as their was a problem with the latex in them.

Come on the Welsh, take it to them. Hope my many Welsh friends are cheering a victory tonight.

Went for yellow maize, but several things have to be right and most of all you need the right tools for the job.

Racing mixtures around 13-14%

First cross with two inbred families can give you good results racing.

If the birds are flying well around the loft ie running like youngsters for 45 mins plus, you will only need a couple of short tosses to let them know the system.

Good signs, lets you know everything is in good order.

We have some Kipp&Sons, sorry none for sale. Last year (2008) was our first year breeding with them and the hen we were 5th Open 08 SNFC YB OPEN with was a Kipp cross. Must add other side of breeding was a daughter of J Bird's Bits and Pieces who was a top performing SNFC pigeon.
