i was told that ivermectin only works against one type of worm - is that true?

i had a stray yb come in yesterday that looked tired/thin but was eating and drinking ok on entering my loft this morning i found the stray yb dead on the floor and i found a bald patch on its head which looked very sore where im assuming it had been pecked? did the bird die and was then pecked or was the bird pecked to death because he was seen as an easy target? as a novice this is all new to me and i would be grateful if any other fanciers could tell me if they,ve seen this behaviour before? with hindsight i realise that i should have put the yb straight into a basket but it settled down onto a perch so i left it there for the night im now worried that the yb may have brought something infectious into my loft and maybe that caused its death? any ideas/theories anyone? debbie :-/

must be something about the beaches they like brighton has its fair share of stray racers as well debbie

im only a novice who hasnt started racing yet and only stumbled into the sport after a stray decided to make my garden shed his new home ive now got a shed full and the majority of them are stray racing pigeons that i had to report thru the rpra as most werent wing stamped and the owners didnt want them back that said some fanciers do care and did want their birds back and some even called personally to collect them ive got a yb in at the moment that was on its last legs when it came in and when i reported it the fancier couldnt have cared less so i suppose that will be one more to add to my collection debbie :-/

hi all thanx 4 all your replies/advice im gonna try the rentokill gadget first as jimmy white advised but will also look into the tracking powder recomended by nipper as for the glue strips i cant think of a worse way of controlling mice as they are then left to starve or be attacked by other animals i know poisoning isnt nice but at least its a faster death and the mice are not left at the mercy of other animals (which can also be caught in the glue) sorry to bang on and i know pest control is necessary but i hate see animals suffer anyway thanx again for your help its much appreciated debbie

hi, for the first time ever ive now discovered that i have mice in my attic as they have chewed some papers and boxes into small pieces which im assuming is to build their nests with? ive never had this problem before getting my pigeons and i would appreciate any advice as to the best way to get rid of the mice before it gets out of hand as i have my neighbours to worry about as im worried they may blame my pigeons? my pigeons are scraped out every day but the loft floor is deep litter consisting of sand/lime and straw i havent as yet put any mice poisons down as both my neighbours have cats, can anybody help/advise me before i have mice running everywhere? debbie :-/

hi bob i wouldnt like to hazzard a guess what the problem is with your yb but if it is coccidiosis? then you can treat it with a product called harkers appertex, if u type in harkers pigeon products on your pc then u can buy the appertex but i would advise asking a local fancier for advice before u do that or take the yb to a vet if u havnt any fanciers local to u to ask for help good luck debbie : come on guys/girls im only a novice but im sure some of u experienced fanciers can help bob with advice?

hi i started keeping pigeons last summer after a stray came into my then garden shed and it decided to stay for good, another stray was given to me shortly afterwards and theyve since gone on to breed youngsters,i now have a shed full of racers some of them gifts as yb,s and the rest are more strays, ive now joined the rpra so that i can ring my yb,s and was wondering if its possible to join a local pigeon racing club as a honary member just to meet other members and to see if pigeon racing is my cup of tea as i worry so much about my pigeons even if they go missing overnight and dont know if i could stand the stress of losing them, anyway it would be good to see how it all works at a club and would be grateful for any advice as to how i can go about joining a club even if only on a temp basis? debbie

hiya sam, i trimmed some of my pigeons claws cos they were curling upwards especially on their back toes i dont suppose street pigeons need their claws trimmed cos they spend all day walking on hard surfaces like pavements looking for food and then theres the roof tiles so they get worn down that way its good to see youngsters like you coming into the sport and i hope you are enjoying your pigeons kev
-
thanks all for your replies about the claw trimming you,ve all been geat with info/advice which is much appreciated debbie
-
hi ive noticed that some of my pigeons have longer claws than the others and that some claws are growing upwards especially on the back toe? im assuming that they need trimming but how do i know where to cut as i dont want to cut into a vein? all of my pigeons go out daily and walk around my garden on a concrete patio so shouldnt this wear their claws down naturally ?? as a novice any advice would be appreciated debbie
