I believe befor the LAST questions can be answered Thumper, the first questions need to be answered with a truefull, and believable repore. http://www.winningmagazine.nl/

http://www.winningmagazine.nl/ Seems that the 'Sun City' race is causing a bit of smoke and what not. Birds disappearing, not train, and sent covered in pox or whatever. This mag is on a free trial period of a month... wel worth radin I guess. Then one can make up their own minds.
-
Won't help the bird Coxy... I know the site is good but .... lol Patience Debbie, that is the marvellous thing about pigeons, they are free, and WILL come back if they so desire and or are able.
-
Yes of course Jimmy ... when the wind is such an hinderance, or even may help. 'Can't get much west than that' was it a wind with no west in it....
-
Yes obviously Bruno... it will be, and is limited, though though these smidgens are often used as a way of trying to say 'Wind' is of a relevance. That is why we and animals shelter from it! Again I notre that the 2005 results are longer Middle distance results. They were superb birds undoubtedly. Northants Fed has a East and West sections. Only in East Winds do the West Section Ever shine. I am in the middle, 20 miles either side. NO wind is best for me, or a head wind. Mostly top 20 Fed results are Raunds or Corby. But then of course it is mostly West in the Wind. Northants / Brixworth / Wellingborough etc. exell of course when there is East in the Wind. Week in and Week out this proves to be the case. Sometimes, just sometimes with a decent wind for us Buron etc. will come up of course... but then of course them days of favourable conditions are in them selves a rarity. And I agree 100% one mustn't make the wind an excuse... But that is seldom applicable, because we know after most Liberation where the winner will be... Like yorseles!

As a mate from Canada wrote on the Alberta Classic.... As most know, it predisposes animals/birds/humans to all sorts of opportunistic bugs and mental health etc, physical health deteriorates. My 'light bulb' must have been on dim for quite a few months! What happened was this. My oldest grandson, now 19, came to live with us over a year ago. When I moved down here he stayed at the old place then got himself an apartment. There was some tension at times as I had to get on his case to clean up after himself. Turn the music down etc,. I had three dogs at that time. Big bull terrier, Jack Russell and her granddaughter. Granddaughter tried to assert authority over her grandmother and got nipped quite a few times. The big guy just stayed clear. Very quiet dog. Anyway, moved down here with my other grandson. Now 17. He is/was an excellent worker when he put his mind to to it. However, he could not focus. If he had a dirty job to do (power washing) he would put it off until I had to really get on his case. Jobs have to be done as rotation of animals is paramount. Besides leaving tools all over the darn place things got pretty hectic. I told him time after time. Do it the way I want it done, it works more efficiently that way. I would invariably get an argument. Anyway, he left beginning of month. Stress. OK. The younger Jack Russell went with one of my daughters Xmas time. No more having to separate fighting dogs. As stated, my grandson moved out. No stress no tension. K. Back at the other place my big dog started to lose a little weight. Figured old age. He seemed arthritic so gave him some Predeff. He started to deteriorate since we moved here. 4 months back. No gloss on his coat, still losing weight. Of course the wife and I were concerned about him. Needle him with something or..? Anyway, granddaughter of the old Jack Russell had gone. Grandson had gone. No stress no tension. I would never have believed it! The big guy is now in excellent shape. Weight about 80lbs, gloss on his coat as good as it ever was. Daughter was here Sunday and remarked on how good he looked. 'What are you giving him', she asked. My wife told her 'less stress!'. Up until that point I had not realized animals were that sensitive. Obviously pigeons are also. Umm...should get rid of stress factors..send all teenagers to Military School..or another planet for a few years...

Yep Vic, as our Fed Sec often quotes 'We would quite willing open our Boundries ... all the way to Bristol if any one wants'!
-
About sums it up Vic. The stadard joke, 'Only those in the East are good flyers'. It is marvellous how are the flyers are moved to or born on the East Sid. Mr Dean Pallet came back with a great vengence.... Then moved over to the West Side. So naturally as he says, Won't win nothing from here, and as I have to be winning to sale birds etc. I have to pack up. Yet latent, blatant untruths are smirched in to try and kid, con us other wise. Just look at the wind and the results in any Big Concern or specialist club and place a pin on the map. End of story lol.
-
Remember well a fancier spouting 'tell them Thisles boy, plenty of thistles and soon they will all be using them ... Well funnily enough every part of a thistle is eatable and has great propeties, so I don't tell them that lol.
-
Bruno nothing about a Fallacy in Fanciers moving location, many do... But the point I am making and you well know it is, that those able to move a buisness or take early retire or move becuase of work only move to a more favourable position. That includes Stan Biss, Tasker, Geoff Clare etc. etc. etc. Or the convieniently ar the FIRST stop before the main bend in a Valley. No matter what after that, if their bird is fi enough to be up with the leaders he has won ... others still have to twist and turn abit hence losing vital seconds each time. Likewise Mid Day liberations, simple to enable a good MIDDLE distance bird to beat genuine Distance birds... And then have the cheek to advertise as Distance stock!
-
True Martin, and why won't the NRCC release unless absolutely imperative!? They say that the birds would crash into mountains... Yeah and that there would be losses etc. A sad Joke, as the scots obviously only live in lowlands and no high hills etc. But by the same reckoning it is fine for them to be swept ou to sea and the continent! Further the birds trave 12 - 15 miles out at sea, or a minium of 3 miles out of land, etc. when near esturaries etc. They apparently also seldom go across waters like the Wash, but go in and around ... still as the was is 22 miles that is freasible. New a club where thos in the East side never won ... because there is one lol. Yes Bruno winds might be variable, but you know as well as I do that that is just planting a Red Herring, for facts speak out louder than word, let alone scenario's.
-
Of course Bruno ... But one has only to look at the great fancier, like Frankie George, paid world record prices for the birds. Had three great dedicated loft managers, whom he gave great bonuses and even a house, that never shone. Masserrella the beat goes on and is countless. So look at the NFC AND MNFC results and simple explan why the best birds and fanciers are up the North East Coast, or Bristol etc. on any given day. Two birds are liberated from say Thurso Both are in the best condition and motivated! One is going to Cromer and the other to Kidderminster. It is a N. West wind. Both time in. Bet I can't get any money on the cromer bird to time in before the Kidderminster! I bet there is way over 1/2 hour difference, and probably more. I bet NO ONE will move to Kiddermentser to concentrate on the NRCC -East Coast Club. Now any one want a really challenge to prove the merit, the chances are there. Kidderminster would struggle with a North wind with no west in it!
-
Live aside a 3 mile x 2 mile lake. Next to a chuch... my birds in a west in the wind always Came back! We could go 40 miles and see them.... Birds go by and even get reported 5 miles up the road. So obviosly Land marks are not even seen! Stiffish, distance and hard races I always hold my own... BUT of course only in my neck of the woods. East side normally dominate, unless of course a stiffisf East in the wind, then I am clobbered by those in the West. fact, sweet and simple.
-
birdman55678 regards you working harder and geting more motivated etc... then him in the EAST is doing thet same, you have to do it every week, week in and week out and hope one day he's birds are not quite as on song as your's. Crazy pigeon you will note quickly these same fanciers that say Wind doesn't matter THAT much WLL reply on Saturday morning when asked how long will it take them start off 'Well in THIS WIND it be a fast one and with West in the wind, of course those (Place) in the East will be 10 - 20 minutes or whatever in front ... Or a stif side wind against means ... And they will certainly tell you later on when you win that 'Well you certainly should have! What with the East i the wind. Fact week in week out. 95% can tell you 98% of the time where the winning location will be... Then they will come on here, or right in Mags etc. that WIND makes no diference to a 'Good Bird'! Cobblers and equaelly good birds as well prepared will beat it every week in a favourable wind ... like yors will beat theirs in a favourable wind. But West is prodominately in most winds. Never seen or heard of the fanciers that move to be in a westerly side on purpose. Seen 100's that move intoi the Vallies and to the EAST side, many before they become well know. Some admit it... others try and flobb it off. Commonsence tells you the truth every day, so don't let the smooth tongues, and well presnted Scenario's thawt sensible and realistic thinking! Look at the skies, and the wind. See when they struggle and more importantly NOTE how, when circling, they slow going upwards a bit, then swoosh around with speed, then slow ec. Good luck to you.

Pigeons never forget where they were born... to break them in they must want, and perfer their new home!
-
Is the old loft still up? If so will the new owners allow you to retrieve your birds twice a week? Birds must and will be broken in within three days if one wants them to perform in all races to their new home. This may mean retrieving and letting out every three days. They must feel safe and quickly become content. Take the out their new loft and show them ... perferable over looking. then leave tib - bits in the loft and pass them through the traps, don't over feed. 3rd day let them out hungry.
-
Breaking points are useless, but handy only in getting the milage under their wings. It just doesn't happen. they are birds, useing a system we have no idea of what, let aboiut how they home. ut it appears that once they lock on to their line home, they don't see nothing till the last second. Just watch the nip over the hedges, roof tops and the time they change in a split second and alter, remedied themselves to not hit an obstacle. Too many dream instead of observing natural straigh forward facts.
-
Bruno & Coxy, ever needed to make excuses.... The plain simply fact is there every week to see, week in and week out! Just watch the birds circle your loft crazy pigeon boy and not when they speed up and slow down. Simple look over head and see the wild birds of the same species that fly over head. Those with wind behind, from the side and in front. Now 2 things - sorry three - things that you must remember, the observation that you will note is aboe the understanding, and observation of the likes of Coxy and Bruno obviously. Wind blows Lorrie and buses over, and even Tankers ... just this week end, and yet a small ball of feathers and bones won't be affected ... Cobblers, they are only ever trying to protect their own selfisf corner, and thirdly, if two birds are flying down the street together, and break to the respective lofts, exactly the same distance, with a West in the wind, the bird in the East wins. Lose sight of that and you'll never do any good. Yes we can't harness the wind, only adjust our sails. Lookk at the nationals... Golly the best 500 birds are always in the same location, marvellous that. 5000 in a race and say the top 150 are all in the North East, and 323 of the next. Some flyers. Not a rocket sceince, just common sense.
-
In a West in the Wind.... birds will be undoubtedly blow over towards the East Side. Then they have to turn sometime and face a bit of a head win. Only - out side of leg pullers and idiots - say Wind doesn't matter ... It won't if your on the East side of Club / Fed / Natioanal lol
-
Must keep turning them each day. Best via a crusty loak cut in half. Then indents made by pot eggs. Taped and write top bottom etc. so you know you have turn them. Have heard 3 weeks, but will let someone else confirm that.
-
Never had a bird that didn't do the distance... lost most that couldn't lol. But seriously losses for me ar pretty rare.

Experts have called for tougher controls on products claiming to contain 'friendly' bacteria purported to promote good health. Eating live bacteria can benefit people with certain illnesses, clinical trials have shown. But what about people who are already healthy? Should everybody be dashing down to the local supermarket to buy a drink or yoghurt packed full of 'friendly bacteria' in the chance they may get sick if they do not? The use of foods containing bacteria - probiotics - dates back thousands of years. It is reported that people in Biblical times drank sour milk to combat problems in the gut. The idea is by constantly topping up the bacteria in your body you're maintaining well-being. Dr Simon Cutting from the Royal Holloway, University of London In recent years, a number of food products have been hitting the supermarket shelves and bombarding our TV screens. The annual probiotic market is now worth an estimated £135 million in the UK alone. There are two ways a probiotic can be classified. Dr Simon Cutting, a reader in molecular microbiology at the School of Biological Sciences, Royal Holloway, University of London, explained: "One is a novel food - that's when you buy things from the supermarket. The other type is what is classified as a drug. "When you have a drug, that means you have specific claims which have to be supported by clinical trials. You can't just say it will make you better - you have got to say specifically what it is. "With novel foods you don't. So novel food is how probiotics are being sold at the moment in the UK." He is working with a pharmaceutical company to develop a probiotic that can be classified as a drug. Good plants Dr Cutting said: "The idea is by constantly topping up the bacteria in your body you're maintaining well-being." Having a balance of "friendly bacteria" is thought to stop harmful bacteria taking a hold and causing disease, much like having a garden filled with good plants rather than weeds. To do this, probiotic bacterial strains must be alive and be deliverable to the gut. That is they must survive gastric and bile acid and digestive enzymes during the gastrointestinal transit until they reach the gut. Dr Cutting said trying to prove the effects of probiotics in health scientifically was extremely complex. "If you were to perform a clinical trial how can you be sure that the same number reach the small intestine for every person? Some bacteria can be harmful to the gut "At every step it becomes more and more difficult. And of course with a novel food you don't have a clinical trial, so it's really done on hearsay." He doubted whether the novel food probiotics sold in the UK could work. "In England, all they are selling at the moment are lactobacillus products. "When you take a dose of lactobacillus, it's not clear how many of those can survive digestion. "But in Japan, for example, they are all based on spore-forming bacteria. "I have a lot of faith in the novel foods based on bacillus products simply because I understand that the spore can survive the stomach so when you take a dose it gets through the stomach into the small intestine." I'm not entirely sure there is any great benefit in young healthy people George MacFarlane, Professor of bacteriology, Dundee university Ask the Doctor: Probiotics Professor Jeremy Hamilton-Miller, from the Royal Free and University College Medical School, London, said: "Not all probiotics achieve the same results. "Despite claims on the label, some contain too small a quantity of bacteria to be beneficial, some contain probiotic cultures that do not survive the gastrointestinal passage, whilst others contain strains of bacteria that are not shown to benefit health." But the professor, who works with Seven Seas, which produces Multibionta, said many of the probiotic foods sold in the UK did promote good health. Constipation Professor Collette Short, director of science at Yakult, said there were studies showing that probiotics boost health. "There are scientific papers looking at people who are healthy and looking at different parameters, like mild conditions. Constipation would be one example. "The other area you have is in healthy children going to nursery school where they are in an environment that they are more exposed to bacteria and potentially picking up infections. "There are several studies that show that children on probiotics were better able to cope and had less use of antibiotics than other children." THE 'NORMAL' GUT BACTERIA Lactobacilli Streptococci Clostridia Coliform Bacteriodes She said it was difficult to prove probiotics' effects in healthy people because there were no obvious biomarkers to measure any improvements. Professor George MacFarlane, professor of bacteriology at the University of Dundee, said: "To be honest, I'm not entirely sure there is any great benefit in young healthy people. On the other hand they may not do any harm." He warned that some products being marketed as probiotics had no demonstrated probiotic properties whatsoever. "Some actually contain bacteria that are harmful. People have to be very careful if they are buying these things over the internet or even from a health food store." But he said this was not a problem with products from the big companies that had extensively tested their products over many years. Different things "Most of the things that are available now are well proven to be safe," Professor MacFarlane said. "One of the biggest problems with all the work on probiotics is that they are funded by companies that have their own products, which means they are asking the questions that companies want answered," he said. "The other thing is that different probiotics do different things. "For example, if you take a probiotic that is proinflammatory, so it stimulates your immune system, it could actually do damage if you had something like ulcerative colitis. "Ideally you would want to take something that reduces inflammatory processes. Many lactobacilli tend to be proinflammatory," he said. Wendy Johnson, food scientist and member of the Institute of Food Science and Technology said: "I think probiotic organisms have a place to play in promoting health but providing the evidence is difficult." seems like a very good vet told me ' If live... will be killed before it could do any good, if dead no good any way ... and he stated that Yogurts etc. are a waste of time. Still every one to their own eh!

14 to 16 days... into the Basket in their new home. Fed and watered, and then broke into their new loft by leting out but locked up to feed them. 21 Days on place in wire baskets and onto of the Conservatory... left to enter the basket. 28 days left loose and basket removed, allowed to go in and out of the loft as they please. 1st training tosses after they have finished ranging, then 10 days or so before their first race.

Very True again. At the turn of the last centuary, outside of the arstocracy there were only 8 millionaires in the whole of Enland. A live in Labourer's pay was £1 25p a YEAR! 25 bob ... if they took a florin (2/-) deposit at the hiring fare (In August usually) they never had to turn up and the florin not paid back ... if more then they had to turn up, or the money returned. THEN 50 years on a terrace house could be brought for £50... wages £3 or so per week. Late 50's earlu 60's £20 per week for some and houses could be purchased for £200 10 weeks wages, but was hard to find... then quickly £1000 mark. Now in relationship £200 week wages and hosuse not 8 - 10 times a weeks wages but 10 to 15 years wages plus interest. Was also taught woth was inrelation to hourly rate and what it could / would buy. Tis still the only realistic way to judge inflation inflation. Sure the last 10 years have been brill compared to the 20 years or so before... But that hourly rate still applies.
