  1. and if you near strangle yourself on the washing line [being catapulted back about 10 ft , landing on your bahookie ;D ;D ;D] whilst trying to time in ,,,,,def a pigeon nut ;D ;D ;D
  2. good post tammy only thing i would change is using powder instead of spray ,as this can be seen if done the dayb4 ,,and if the bird is badly soiled it would be too close to the show day to bathe it and dry with hair drier ,as a good judge would notice this as well ,, but excellent post for show help, just one other thing [not in your post ;D] is the aluminium carriers are very bad for damaging their tails [air perforations at front and back ] but may not interfere with a show bird well used to this type of carier but racers dont take kindly to these
  3. so did i ;D ;D ;D another good motivation tip [also done by porter and richardson ] is putting a pair of 3 day old ybs under an older w hood cock [without seeing hen for a few weeks, just turning nest bowl and put babies in ] for a distance race [youll have to keep changing the ybs every few hours as the cock will have no milk, this is what makes it keen] do this the day b4 the basketing , i was 15th gold cup national using this ,,,,,,p and r won the car doing this [ giving all my secrets away ;D ;D ;D]
  4. yes i would agree with that 100 pc ,,,,management but with the right tools ;D
  5. sometimes these birds with pink round the eyes are easier to spot in condition, as its then it actualy goes pinker
  6. no his hunidity gauge was his galley pot of black minerals
  7. good reading sammy ,and , thank goodness your back [we cant be without our sam ;D]
  8. im amazed at how quick birds do heal , my black one on hawks topic just a few weeks ago looked so bad , the bird is gleaming now,,, but i allways have my doubts [maybe wrongly] that once a bird is injured , it seldom wins again , but off course could still breed winners but good luck with the hen ,she looks really nice
  9. i used to feed mine winalot,,,,,,but they never ;D ;D ;D,, these crushed biscuits would do them no harm whatsoever ,,so,, a little of what you fancy ,does you good ,,, my famous" old meally" used to litteraly eat the dogs dinner ,,the meat and the biscuit,, ;D ;D ;D beleive me, it never done him any harm
  10. cant really notice that sammy [mind you my eyes are about as bad ;D] but usually if its one eye cold you see the tell tale bubbles on the bottom eyelid ,,,to difficult for me to see could be the result of a pick [or bird been in a fight] ,,,so i would have a good look for these bubbles rapido man , cant see them in pic.
  11. so one of these birds were vaccinated once ,, i think maybe the vaccination might have been a bit strong for this type of fancy pigeon , maybe half a dose ,once a year would be enough, worth asking the vet ,,,,,good luck with them
  12. latebreds at their weakest point at this time of the year nd will have started moulting ,, this can bring on a certain amount of stress to the bird putting it at its lowest ebb , this could be anything from cocci to yb sickness , so if you feel the bird is valuable to you ,, better with a good avian vet ,,treating blindly can make the bird worse
  13. had a bird stuck down the back of nest boxes [long time ago] for about 10 days , thoughtit had been killed by cat or hawk, then heard slight movement , retreaved the bird,, thought it had, had it, it seemed quite far gone ,,it dived straight to the drinker ,,,never seen a bird drink as much,, a few hours later flying round with the rest ,,,tough little so an so,s [never let it happen again though]
  14. paramyxo virus [better to inject yearly , young and old ] many vaccines on the market
  15. vets job ,,,sounds very like salmonella, paratyphus,,same thing
  16. obviosly the bird is blind in that eye , irespective of colour ,, think iwould have a word with the seller :-/
  17. yes i agree ,, definately merits vets advice , could be worms, cocci or other [most likely cocci]
  18. no, i dont think so,, some folks say theres protein in them,,,,,but good protein in a nice clean bean
  19. i would agree with slugy, you may pay a little more, but worth it in the end ,,same with pea-nuts
  20. most fanciers treat for cocci, worms and canker , but you can get their droppings tested for about £18, you may find you wont need to treat them ,,these 3 treatments will cost you about £30 odd [tight git me ;D]
  21. in my opinion db i would wait till the moultisfinished [that was a big word ;D] b4 treating them , they sound ok really , but certain tratments can" stint " the growing feather , maybe try and get their droppings tested , just to ease your mind
  22. its true mite come out a tnight,,or better to say in the dark [they can be close to the birds body under the wing looking for a darker place ,and irritating them but equally true , if their on the bird , they will trouble them during the day,, usually seen by the dancing, stamping, and back healing , but again it could be any flea or insect bothering them ...put a third of a bottleof duromitex in a bucket of warm water and douse them all , in the summer would put them out to dry [not on the line ] but in the winter , in the basket for an hour in the house [and put the wife in the loft for an hour,,,with a scraper ;D ;D ;D] two jobs done at once ;D ;D
  23. birds comming through the moult fine ,, but still not heard about butter milk
  24. yes wee cunny ,, in my opinion , weavel holed beans can be heated up to kill weavels by seller but leaves the beans with no goodness in ,, or if the wevels are still in the beans , the hole they make in the bean can be host for other nasties far better with a clean bean [like me , not got a bean ;D]
  25. excactly the same as me debbie ;D ;D ;D 16 by 6 loft waiting on chap fitting section ;D ;D ;D hint hint ;D ;D ;D and lining on floor ;D ;D good luck with the birds [well see who gets their partition first ;D ;D]
