Guest bigda Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 the last two day here in lanarkshire i have seen frost in the morning it has come early the farmers are saying its a bad crop year so you know now the price of corn is going up again, looking at the dry days we have had this year 3 weeks in total, with the odd flood seems the weather change has had an affect on the pigeons i used to blame the fair grounds for the rain as when the came to my town it always seemed to rain :'( ;D

That bugger ate cat food for fun to start with then got fussy, wouldn't eat normal garbage seagulls do, had to be breaded ham and roast chicken Etc, still it did him a favour and helped my diet lol
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 dont worry bugger will be back with family soon they are not daft
Fair Play Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 I used to have one that fed off a table outside the office window used to tap the window to get fed would it would fly off for the winter and return 3 months later and tap the window only thing when feeding its young it was back every 5 mins, I was tired out I was told after I retired it came a few times then never came back, richer pickings elsewhere who says birds are daft - it was me for feeding it
chickadee Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 dont worry bugger will be back with family soon they are not daft Ha ha ha then you'll have to put on a buffet for them every day, eat you out of house and home. ;D ;D ;D ;D
superstar Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 I have been feeding them for a while now, council here have been on the war path and removed all the nests with eggs and chicks in alike and destroyed them this year, not very nice as there are actually a species on an amber alert but guess if it suits they can please themselves! (pitty we cant with hawks). They do me and my boy a favour when here nesting as the sparrow hawks or any others never venture near beacuse they get mobed. There is a price to pay though, you cant leave anything unattended on the patio table or the big guy that nests on the warehouse at the back will have away with it sharpish! While rearing the little fella he managed to get 2 plastic dishes 2 large galleypots and to my old mothers disgust one of her bone china saucers lol. Heres another pic of my little friend taking it easy

superstar Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Suoerstar, I like it "Location: In a World of my Own. KEEP OUT!!" :) I was going to be out in the open but saw you there and thought nah! lol (cant do smilies mine dont work) :~( On a serious note though some farmers will be struggling after last years bad harvest and this one being even worse! Cant claim on crops either, classed as an act of God!!! Big loss to cover all the time, the deep pockets and short arms are suffering for sure!

The farmers will claim compensation from the goverment and hike the prises as well for the crops they have harvested, it's no win - no win for consumers :'( :'( :'( mines work fine ;D ;D ;D
shotgun tim Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 the news toay said the corn price should drop because of the good harvest in europe

Guest strapper Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 i was told by a top grain/corn grower that the goverment has allowed them a bigger size of crop growth this year(13%)...or wot ever the proper name for it is.
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 like one of it by leg its nice when wild birds are so tame round you
superstar Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Ive picked up a few of the big herring gulls that been injured and bought them home definately very noisy and very aggressive Get plenty of them in my garden as well which i have encouraged they seem brilliant hawk deterrents which definately dont stay around when they are about not sure what effect they would have on the pigeons but the wood pigeons dont seem particularly bothered with them and they all sit on the roof tops together The only problem I noticed was when nesting the older gulls did take a great dislike to some saddle backs and whites which I had in the past, got rid of them and they have been fine this year. The youngsters didnt take a blind bit of notice of sausage (the gull) he used to walk round with them, must say he did try to peck at the rings on their legs occasionally but they just stepped aside and ignored him. Summer is over as the gulls are no longer at their nest sites but congregating in large flocks away from here more, getting ready to migrate, the ones from round here have been tracked to spending the winter round the Algarve area of Portugal, buggered if I'd come back here if I was them lol. Mr Sparrow hawk has already started to make regular appearences again now they are going
