I have recently held a sale on Pigeon Basics for a none PB member and had the idea that i would add a 10% surcharge on each bird so that PB would recieve a benefit from the sale, hopefully we should raise above £80 or so for the site.

I know this has been a controversal subject in the past but what do members think?? do they think its an appropriate way of conducting a sale??? As members are they comfortable with this???

It obviously helped that the birds were reasonable priced!!!

Feedback (not abuse) welcome.

Personally, I think that the advertiser should pay for the privilege of advertising their birds. I don't see why the buyer should have to pay.  ::)

Personally I think it should be the seller that should make the donation after all they are the ones making the money, agree with Peckedhen, why should the buyer have to pay, just my opinion .

Point taken everyone, i suppose you can look at it this way, you make a price which takes into account costs incurred so if you value something at 100 and it costs you £25 to place an advert possibly you will offer it at £125?? Maybe

I just thought this way it would get the donation process in line up front. Richard will probaly tell you there isnt many donations made so anything is an improvement.

As i said i priced the birds at a level that made paying the 10% still an attractive offer!!! They sell pigeons like this in Belguim and Holland where if you buy a bird at Auction, you pay 20% direct to the auctioneer.

As i said its interesting to hear everyones views on the subject.

Just one note the seller who is seriously ill hasnt made a penney he has just recovered in some cases at most 50% of what he laid out!!! Remember in this case its a forced sell.

All for the good of pigeon basics

May i add that im open to anything that is agreed between the membership and Richard, Pigeon Basics is a great site and from my point of view it works best when we are all happy and in agreement.

The thread needs to run longer to get many more opinions.

It's annoying that people don't make a donation, I didn't know that! :(  Especially annoying if these people advertise frequently. >:(  I do know that a member has to make 10 posts before they can advertise, to stop guys coming on simply to sell their birds without contributing anything to the forum. On Pigeon Chat you have to pay £25 up front - that sorts out those who don't have a conscience. ;)

Some points to consider maybe

Start doing it like that and the site may have to pay tax on it, when you buy something at an auction it is tax that is added at the end, the seller is deducted a fee for the auctioneer selling the item on their behalf

I think every seller should pay a set fee or a percentage to the site for it's running costs, not the buyer who is taking a chance with the sale, the seller has got his ready's.

If this is implimented that the buyer pays the comission, what would happen there is a dispute in the sale would the site have to refund the fee

Also auctioneers hold the money untill any (if any) guarantee period has passed

Maybe a bigger head ache than you think, I understand where you are coming from Stuart :)

I think a one off yearly fee would be the easiest way forward!! Lets say £25 each and if 20 people sign up then that would go someway to covering Richards running costs and say pay the stand at Blackpool!!

All good ideas and its great to get everyones input.

I would go with that for normal members and £100 for professional sellers :-/
