PAPA B Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Is it ok to train your birds throu the winter months and also when there moulting. If not what months are best for them to be left in peace.
walterboswell59 Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 i will start training my latebreds in the next few weeks but would not train any birds that dont need it education only if they dont need it whats the point if the weather is ok they will be trained right up till december picking the best days and short tosses up to 20 miles hope this helps you papa
PAPA B Posted October 5, 2015 Author Report Posted October 5, 2015 All my birds are from this year, been slowly building the tossing gradually.so is it ok to continue training.Through the molt and winter months. Thanks
walterboswell59 Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 imo they can only learn so much once they have mastered the last 20 to 30 miles and been there plenty times id leave them to next year if latebreds thats different anything from 6 to 20 short tosses will stand them in good stead for next year as for the moult as long as your are not going to far it will do them no harm as long as its not to cold choose the best days with the wind not to strong good luck with them
geordie1234 Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Ybs can be trained at 12 weeks old and get plenty short ones in as much as possible in my opinion....I normally got to 1 mile and just fire them out then I go to ten mile fore quite a few trainers One thing I stopped doing this year was giving them time to settle at the lib site...as soon as I stop the car they get put out.....started doing this after I read Ad sherlauchens does it Latebreds must be trained and If I had them any decent winter day I'd get them down the road, doesn't need to be too far

The birds get the same from the transporter , if you think about it.They cant see out the crates and are libbed without seeing about themselves.

PAPA B Posted October 5, 2015 Author Report Posted October 5, 2015 When you do your first 20 miles toss;do you always get them back that day or can it take a couple of days.

Depending on the win I'd expect them all back within 40-45 mins tops for the first 20miler....but I'd have a lot of short ones before that When switched on they should do 20 miles near a minute a mile depending on wind
greenbar Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 after half a dozen tosses, they should be home before u,
geordie1234 Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 after half a dozen tosses, they should be home before u,I hear that all the time, sometimes wae the roadworks it takes me ages lol
PAPA B Posted October 5, 2015 Author Report Posted October 5, 2015 I find just now they don't come straight back maybe cause there still ranging.
Wiley Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 How many flights have the dropped and what condition is there body moult in?
PAPA B Posted October 5, 2015 Author Report Posted October 5, 2015 They look fine but have moulted a lot of small feathers;ive done about a dozen drops over 3 months;most of the time they stay out ranging.
Wiley Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 How many flights have they dropped thats the more important then the body
