Guest slugmonkey Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 great article .... however there was another article on here once upon a time that followed a lot of the same lines but the main difference was that the previous article stated that white muscle ( fast twitch muscle ) would burn protein as a primary fuel ( of course this is after being turned to glycogen )and that this was stored in the red muscle ( slow twitch ) as your article stated BUT that protein would be burned FIRST as a supply of glycogen for these stores then the fat was burned and then finally the carbohydrates ...... I feed heavy on the peas but I use Austrian or trapper peas and will only use maples if the others arent available and then I change percentages ( interesting side note the skins of Maple Peas are stripped and used in birth control products so if you are using them as a breeding aid it is a little counter productive ).... I also feed a lot of yeast and flax oil when doing this as it helps aid with the protein digestion because of the B vitamins ....... I defiantly agree with you about feeding a lot of fat and protein after a race ...... noticed this topic was sticky and hope I dont rub any salt in wounds here just wanted to add to this as I believe it is important ...thanks ....

Tony C Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 I am under the impression that the fast twitch muscle (used in quick bursts of energy) was fed in the main by carbs, after 40-60 mins of flight fats and protein then come into play.
