Guest nephilim Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 As per title. Anybody heard about ringing older birds? I was on another forum, where it mentioned unrung youngsters being rung. It went on the lines a guy bought surplus birds all unrung and wanted to join a club. Few posts later he thanked the club for rings and another person, for showing him how to put a ring on any age bird, without cutting the ring! Just got me thinking, how they did it? I know of ringing with current and next years on early bred birds and cutting unwanted off at later date. But this practice has me stumped. Any thoughts or ideas?
Delboy Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 ye cant do that m8 as some dodgy folk would put yb rings on decent proven old birds for yb racing.
OLDYELLOW Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 impossible you'd split the toes / leg unless the ybs are recklings and are really scrawny but best place for them be bin
Delboy Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 impossible you'd split the toes / leg unless the ybs are recklings and are really scrawny but best place for them be bin its not impossible m8
OLDYELLOW Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 would like to see it done with my thick legged uns lol , if thats the case rings could be removed from rung birds , I have ice watered a few missed uns before but not fully grown
Guest chad3646 Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 its not impossible m8 i could ring the wild finches quite easily but thats a trade secret
kirky Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 are these race birds or fancy breeds as fancy bird rings are mostly all plastic and these can be heated and made larger to fit obs,
bibendium Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 I have seen it done with big ybs . inside of the ring is filed almost away
JohnQuinn Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 I have seen it done with big ybs . inside of the ring is filed almost away It would still be illegal as altering rings in any way is strickly forbidden. It's unnecessary as well because ye can ring full grown birds, not ALL adult birds but some can be rung as ob's. Ave seen it done.
