Guest dogeon Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 yes they are good vents ive used them for years but i would not put them to low as mice and rats will chew ther way in thanks for the advise, my loft is raised around 12" off the floor
chickadee Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Yes these vents are just as good as any other vent.
DOVEScot Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 some photos of the vents i put in the stock loft and new breeding box's has anyone used this sort of vents and are they ok to use, your opinions are welcome Yes they are soffit vents, great for adding to any problem area, just bore a hole to suit and they clip in place
Guest dogeon Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 your right they are soffit vents thats why i got them so i could just bore a hole and clip them in and worked out cheeper than the square vents
Guest shadow Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 personally I would have used the bigger vent grills available to create a bigger air flow

superstar Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Vents must be doing the job well as the birds look a picture of health
Guest dogeon Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 personally I would have used the bigger vent grills available to create a bigger air flow these vents are doing the job as i put a smoke bomb in and it all ascaped out of the back and cleared quite quickly
Guest dogeon Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Vents must be doing the job well as the birds look a picture of health ive only had one bird ill with respritory and thats before i put the vents in they are fit and healthy now
Roland Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 I personally feel them vents make it two cosy - I'd have them 3 times as big with a fan in them, and six inches apart along the complete side / front. The idea of vents, I believe, is that the current comes through - preferably the bottom - and litteruay hits the back middle and then out through the Top middle to front... This causes a air flow that is all in portant. JMO.
Roland Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 thanks for the advise, my loft is raised around 12" off the floor Rats and / or mice climb brilliantly unfortunately. Fortunately if you have one, you won't have the other, as Rats eat mice, who won't stay there long. Now this time of the year nigh every house, whether one believes it or not, let alone seee any evidence, have one or the oth as they crowd in from the fields and swarm into the houses. I have traps / pipes etc. set every day, and still get one or two aweek, and there are cats galore around the surrounding houses, not mind fortunately.

Roland Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Yeah ... it will be stale and stuffy for the birds in summer. I'd rather Dogeon puts it right asap before breeding preferable. No my vents are from all sides, and all go out through the middle. Remember I'm the one that houses24 in a 6 x4 etc. and they are in great fettle ... I am able if need be to change the cladding in to vents, completely an all sides. Have Fans in need be and 4 Car fans if really needed that blows right through the lofts, or rather over the wired messhed roofs ... Poor air circulation is a boon to desiese and poor health... better safe than sory I feel.
Guest dogeon Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 thanks for the advise roland but i'm already breeding and the loft on pics are just breeding, in the race season there in the main loft with an avery front
Wiley Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 personally the vents are fine but there positioning i wouldnt say is the best, a vent placed next to a saddle perch? Remember you must regulate your ventilation flow and you must be upmost control personally think where they are placed will cause a draft, and possible one eye colds and respiratory problems could soon follow. Also i personnally think the nest boxes should be raised of the floor. All The best

All The best the perches have been relocated as photos were taken as soon as i put the vents in and the bottom nest box's are closed i havent got any birds in them as i use them to store nest bowls and felts in i just didn't calculate the height of the loft when i was making the nest box's a good point to remember though ;D
