Hi all,

My job involves working 7.30-6pm 5 days a week. What exercise could I give young birds? I am off completely on weekends and they could be out all day, just weekdays that is worrying me. Could I get them fit for a race with my work hours?

I could take them to work for a training toss in the morning once trained but I work in East Manchester 17 miles from home to work and the club have told me that their races fly from south to North.would this make a difference, as I could do the 20 mile tosses on weekends from the south?

The risk of having the birds on open trap to exercise whilst you are at work during the week has a few risks attached Dan, the local cat being your first problem, annoying neighbours with the birds sitting about the roof just to name a few. I would be taking them for that 17ml toss during the week and arrange for someone to let them in at the home end and then lock them up for the day and the 20ml tosses at the weekend should be okay even if they are then being sent in the opposite direction. Training pigeons is to get the birds fit and if its on the line of flight thats fine but off the line of flight will also teach them to think for themselves and that is just as important in my eyes so good luck with your training whenever you get started. :animatedpigeons:

both good posts above .only thing to be wary of training on a Saturday whilst oldbirds are racing , especially in the early stages .once fit & well trained though , could be a bonus "breaking wise" .

I am assuming you will fly natural rather than darkness , if so , evening exercise would also help .

very best of luck to you in the coming season . :animatedpigeons:

Let them out at 19:00 every night watch them race the sky only problem being that every body else is in the hoose waiting to toss out there strays but you meet some good people if you take the time to report there youngsters
