coey18 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 hi, i am looking to start racing pigeons, next year. i have a loft and accessories, now its just the birds i need, could anyone please advise me of what age pigeons will i need to breed from and do they have to be of a certain age, before they can breed? thank you in advance, for any help.

ovy1255 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 would strongly advise you to allow others to breed you young birds and concentrate on rearing these -training and racing allowing time for you to understand the art of keeping pigeons.

coey18 Posted November 2, 2013 Author Report Posted November 2, 2013 would strongly advise you to allow others to breed you young birds and concentrate on rearing these -training and racing allowing time for you to understand the art of keeping pigeons. so, it would be best for me to find people selling young birds and start from there? i did keep pigeons, when i was younger, aged 10 to 14, these was for a bit of enjoyment and consisted of stray birds me and my mates had caught at local parks and the town centre. we would report the birds to be collected, hoping to be told we could keep it and surprisingly enough the majority of people let us, inadvertantly keeping us away from railways and other dangerous places young lads like to play around.

I'm sure the local fanciers will breed you a team for next year free of charge.
ovy1255 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 depending where in the country you are from [pressuming you are in uk]-look for charity sales -in the n/east bob pinkerton runs a one every year for childrens ward at local hospital-guys give to these but when you go to collect any you buy ,when they know you are a novice you will leave with more than one.also once the guys on sites like this find out where you are they will direct you to some good lofts in your vicinity to buy a couple of young from.gift birds might follow.have you applied to join a club?how old are you?is someone going to help you?it is a demanding sport but great to see your birds home-no feeling like seeing a bird fold and you know its home its yours. /
