I would think you could,but there is more to it than meets the eye,you've got to start somewhere,read as much as you can about testing.The simple things are easily seen canker,cocci etc.it's distinguishing which is which when it gets complicated,good bacteria from bad etc.

There must be hundreds of fanciers who have a microscope and don't use them,when I first got it,used it nearly every day just to get the hang of it,now just when my backs against the wall.

Just before Xmas every year Aldi and Liddl sell microscopes for students. They are cheap and perfect for what you want. That was how I started.

These are the ones that plug into your PC.

Yes they plug into the PC and you will find it easier to look at the samples because you don't have to peer down it. Looking at a screen is also good because several people can look at the same time which makes learning better because you can discuss what you see there. The last time I looked these microscopes where about £50 to buy. The only draw back with them is the fact that they have a plastic lens which damages if you abuse it. part from that these microscopes are very good and better than the Brunel ones for a lot more money.
