JohnQuinn Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Jimmy Beatie lived in Symington Sammy. He moved to Australia to live with his son when his health began to deteriorate. Nice man who sold doos for buttons. My late father bought Leopold Cadou birds from him and crossed them into our Cattrysse family with great success. Cheers John.

JohnQuinn Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 john did he keep the birds for sale in the barn ? Naw Jimmy, that was a myth, his loft consisted of 4 separate sections. It was a square shaped loft, very large too. It had a corridor running through the middle from front to back and side to side, creating a cross. The four corners of the loft were each individual sections with nest boxes and perches in each. As far as i could see he did not have a separate section for his Yb's, instead they were left in with the old birds after weaning. He had regular sales at Newmains club, most birds going for a tenner with the odd one or two fifteen or twenty quid. ALL birds came from Louella, or were bred from Louella birds, with the exception of one that he got from the Queens lofts. It was the first doo that caught my eye when i visited him but it wasn't for sale at any price. He was a real gentleman who had no wish to make his fortune from his sales. i think he just enjoyed the whole idea of breeding and selling with the hope that he would breed someone a champion. In all i reckon my father purchased around 8 to 10 birds from him and in all honesty not one was a waste of money because when crossed into our inbred/line bred doos they produced birds to score in the club and fed for years. I still have at stock a Ck with some of the Cadou pigeons genes in it.I hope he is still with us but at his age when moving i doubt very much he is.
Delboy Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 I remember his sales at Newmains.Just read your post John, I heard the guy didn't have boxes or perches in his lofts but that mustve been rubbish.

Aye Del, there were rumours galore about old Jimmy, none of which had any substance to them.

JohnQuinn Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Here's a VERY strange event that happened to us with one we purchased from Jimmy. We bought a Choc Pied Cadou Ck from him to pair with a Dk Cheq hen we had bred from one of his crossed with the Cattrysse pigeons. We put it in with the hen but both just stood looking at each other for weeks, with no attempt whatsoever by the Ck to pair up. The racing season had started but still no sign of it pairing up, i met Jimmy at Newmains one day around the 3rd race of the season and told him about the Ck's failure to pair up. He told me to come up as he had 2 ready to wean and i could take my pick of them. The very SECOND i put the youngster into the Yb section where the Ck was now resident he responded by trying to pair onto it, it was like switching a light on and an unbelievable sight to see. We then put him back in with the original hen, and he paired up immediately!! the hen laid on the Monday before the 5th or 6th race. That hen topped the fed that week sitting 5 day eggs, it was the first time we ever topped Lanarkshire Fed winning the Wm Rae Memorial trophy. Very Strange but absolutely true, i had never seen the like of this before and haven't since and i am still baffled as to how this came about
