Guest mi5lyn Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 with all the bad racing you guys got this year I cant believe that there is only two birds from Scotland in Ireland but looks that way because no one is coming up with any to go back make ya wonder were they are.
Delboy Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 That's not a bad thing, strays are a pain in the azz and nobody should really want them.
PIGEON_MAN Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 That's not a bad thing, strays are a pain in the azz and nobody should really want them. What is your reasoning on saying that nobody should really want them.
gulkie Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 That's not a bad thing, strays are a pain in the azz and nobody should really want them. Didn't think I'd have heard that from you Dereck I think that fanciers today it's to much bother for them To report a stray . With all the easy ways to report them these days.I believe that some YB go into lofts Lost and exhausted and are turfed out ,also they fly till they can't fly any more.

walterboswell59 Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 simple m8 not many south east winds watch the diff in a south east when your racing down the west rout nightmare stuff i would like our race controller to have the power to change the race point to a race point in the east when a strong south east is forcast but keep them short about 150 miles or so and we still get a good work out for the birds what do the rest of the guys think
Guest mi5lyn Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 strays are a pain in the azz that said they are not all bad ones some good birds lost and im sure the guys would like to get them back some birds that did go back turned out again to turn up as big winners.and never make the same mistake again. I for one like to help them on there way back sent some good birds back to England/ Scotland.

I think ye all have got me wrong.I help as many as anybody, in fact ive been out of pocket many times helping guys get their birds back BUT, what im saying is, IMO , I have no time for strays and not many make the grade in later life. OHHH , I hear, the exceptions coming up and I could tell you the same stories, but in all honesty, 99% are crap, simple as that. I think we are breeding a weaker type of bird if pigeons are persistently entering someone elses loft. Then again, it sometimes comes down to management.

Don't think you are far from the truth now Delboy, too many ready to blame everything and everybody except themselves.
Delboy Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 What is your reasoning on saying that nobody should really want them. Do you want strays?
Delboy Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Don't think you are far from the truth now Delboy, too many ready to blame everything and everybody except themselves. Think of years ago, strays were an embarrassment to you if your name was shouted out at the club hut, now fanciers are dying to see if they ve got one, expletive remove. The sport has become weaker imho.

Guest mi5lyn Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 you are talking about young birds I take im talking about birds that are lost in old bird racing many a good irish bird lost this year and im sure you guys over there have lost some good u to.
PIGEON_MAN Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Do you want strays? When you say do I want strays I,m not exactly sure what you mean,I suppose if you mean other peoples birds if I was honest I would probably say no I dont need the extra problems they bring and the excuses you get when you report them, but being a club secretary I have many calls from non fanciers, vets, shops, factories and anybody else who might have a stray bird call in,I have travelled many miles and made many phone calls to do my utmost and get a stray bird back to its owner and as a pigeon fancier I am only to pleased to do so,I would like to think any other fancier would do the same for one of my birds,I would certainly have one of my own y.bs back as there are so many obstacles these days that can cause them to become strays.
