Guest chad3646 Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 just read in todays sunday mail, gamekeepers have called for a cull of ravens they say they are a threat to sheep, chickens, and rare birds i wonder what the rspb would say to that, the raven was on the endangered list as was the peregrine falcon and look how many we have of them now
Guest H@wkBait Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 gamekeepers are full off it there not a danger to sheep they only take the eyes out dead sheep and lambs or very ill ones that are dying the rest id go with

Guest Owen Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 I know that both ravens and crows will take the eyes of sheep. I have seen them attack lambs while the mother is giving birth to another. Some areas are worse than others. When I was with my Father we had sheep in a very bad area for crows and the only way to deal with it was to shoot as many as we could. Later I had sheep on an upland area where it was not so bad. They would take the eyes if a sheep was caught up in a fence or brambles but they did not bother too much with good healthy animals.Something to think about. Although I agree with what people say about Gamekeepers and their Employers. When it comes to opposition to the Hawkes and Falcons they are very definitely on our side. The Country Landowners are about the only organisation that the RSPB will take notice of because they are the only ones with the cash to match their's.
Guest chad3646 Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 i agree what you say about the gamekeepers owen ,on any big estate there would be at the least 4 to 6 gamekeepers, now there is only one to do the same job as the 6 that is one of the main reasons there are far to many fox, magpie, squirrel, falcon,s and the corvid family, not forgetting the pecticides the damage it done
Guest H@wkBait Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 when they are attacking the newly born there just eating the blood etc that there covered in as they eat the after birth not attacking as such eating the waste that comes with them thats all a good shepherd will be there when there lambing and prevent it
