Birds Wont Roost Inside?

Ello everyone..

 

Just need some advice to encourage 2 Pairs of fancy pigeons to roost inside their loft instead of their aviary?

 

I'm trying to whistle train & settle 4 birds over a year old (not ideal I know)...

 

They only got delivered late last week and seem to be quite content, But whenever I Check them, their sittin on a small ledge which is the highest point in the aviary.. I didn't intend this small ledge to be used like this at all, I would much prefer them to go inside sometimes..

 

Im afraid that they will get ill if they don't get out of the elements atleast for some time in the day.. The entrance to their loft is small, will only allow to birds to enter or exit at a time..

 

They don't seem the brightest buttons in the box and Im hoping they just haven't explored inside yet.. Is it just a waiting game? Any advice on settling older birds without wing soaking etc, would also be appreciated (I know this subject probably been covered 100 times, sorry)

I would take the small ledge down. What breed are they?

CLOSE THE AVERY utill they go down on eggs or take the ledge down its nature for ya pigeons will always wamt to roost nest at the highest point why do u think theres so many fights for the top perches especially in yb,s plus there not used to there new surroudigs

i too would block off the ledge , make the opening into the loft larger . dont worry about them sitting out in the elements , it wont harm them.where and when are you feeding ? i would hope inside the loft and at a regular time ,say late afternoon ,if you could get them into a routine of feeding inside at that time ,then close them in for the evening .open in the morning for them to sit in the avairy .this should work ok for you , and good luck.

as andy said m8 dont worry about them sitting in the aviary it will do them no harm at all i even had mine nest in it as for beaking them i would let them rear a pair then try the cock when he is driving the hen for 2nd round then the hen a few days after laying that way you have a pair off them and 2 eggs if you lose them

Well there has been some developments.. they appear to have paired up..

 

One pair is on the ledge, and one pair have gone inside on their own accord..

 

I'm feeding them in the afternoons, as routinely as I can from the loft.. I'll block off the ledge

 

Their New York Flying flight pigeons, Il have more peace mind letting them free fly once they have raised young

 

I'm guessing the pair who seem to have claimed the ledge must be the more dominant, but colder pair haha
