Guest Shannon Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 Thanks for the welcome. Yes, the racing homers now have "coats of many colors." Rare colors. I pop in on shipping night (basketing night for you) as the local club ships birds at my next door neighbor's home. That's when I stir up the "locals" and have a beer or two with my old friends AFTER the birds are in the baskets. Do I miss it? Yes. Do I miss the down the road training and the constant need for attention to health regimens and the rancor that is sometimes generated by competition, especially if YOU win? No. As a teenager I wrote to two Welsh show racer men, Edgar Griffiths and Tommy Davies. Wrote articles on both for the US pigeon mag, the ARP News. Edgar once told me this: "a good one in the loft does me." That's my mantra these days, although I have mine out flying around the acre. Edgar was correct, BTW. Later, Edgar's good Gold Medal winner, "Cymro," was added to my loft via Bob King (who imported him to the US)and Charles Chupil (who gave him to me when the pigeon was in advanced years). Again, thanks for the welcome, mates. Shannon
