Guest ConsettFlyer12 Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 Hi, me and my dad have been recently been working onn a 7x4 garden shed to convert it too a youngbird loft for 2013. I have a 4x4 hut where i keep 2 pairs of birds in there for breeding. Me and my dad have added a prespex window for some extra light and ive been painting the shed inside and out. What my dads thinking of is getting some ply wood to make boxes or just get some old bookshelves to make some. we dont know how many boxes to make and im planning on racing 15 youngbirds as thats what a fancier from around here told me would be best. Also i was thinking of having a mesh frame door after the first door with a trap at the bottom so birds can trap in and i can leave the door open through the day... or we could make a hole in the shed and put the trap there which would be better and why? I really want to get racing pigeons this year and my birthday is in october thats when the season finishes and im going to ask for a bigger loft and use the old youngbirds loft for stock or oldbirds We get a mix called Natural which is 20kg and im thinking when the youngbird season comes Morning 1 desert spoon each bird after a fly then when i get back from school 4:00pm let them have a fly and feed them another desertspoon, i dont think that would perticullary work so i need a new method... also a fancier from around here told me about the darkness system ive forgot about that and when to do it? Im sure he said that the shortest day of the year open it back up or something such as that! i have 18 NEHu 13 rings that he sent town and im allready in a club i just need some help. My dad is promising when he goes to work hes going to let my birds from different distances as he goes all over the northeast and they could fly home and im thinking of training them on sunday ad the races are on saturday... I got promised some youngbirds from someone on here called hibby and ive been sending him messages but he hasnt been replying and i dont know if i will end up racing them without youngbirds...... Please any advice needed i would really appreciate it.... Regards Scott
geordie1234 Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 First off all take a breath and do one thing at a time mate, your shed if you plan for 15 pigeons personally I would have 20 perches. You can make box perches if you like or even just use the plastic v perches pretty cost effective and quick to get you small shed ready for young birds. Once you get your young birds in there they will trap to anything mate just get the pigeons into a routine and stick to it then you can adjust the feeding if you need more control off the pigeons. You will get racing youngbirds this year but just worry about getting your loft ready and getting some pigeons in it first off all. After the season then look to what's the plan for next
Tony C Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 Above is whats called Box Perches. I would advise you to use these type of perches for youngsters as they dont take up to much room and the youngsters would be easier to catch. You should be able to get 24 of these perches inside your 7x4 loft.
frank mitch Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 If you want i could breed you 12 young birds and get them sent down to you in plenty time for racing, all free of charge. Im sure the members in your new club would be more than happy to help you or give you any advice you needed, dont be scared to ask.
